Tennys Sandgren, Austin Krajicek eliminated at Wimbledon

Former UT tennis player Tennys Sandgren and doubles partner Austin Krajicek fall at Wimbledon.

Former Tennessee tennis player Tennys Sandgren saw his stay at Wimbledon come to an end Friday.

Sandgren and doubles partner Austin Krajicek were ousted from the tournament when they lost to Alexei Popyrin and Lloyd Harris in straight sets. Popyrin and Harris prevailed 6-4, 7-6 (4) on Court 8 at the All England Club.

Sandgren, who won his first round singles match on Tuesday, was eliminated from singles competition by fourth-seeded Alexander Zverev, 7-5, 6-2, 6-3.

Sandgren, a native of Gallatan, Tennessee, played at Tennessee during the 2010 and 2011 seasons. He was an All-America standout and All-Southeastern Conference performer during his time on Rocky Top.

He was 10-0 in singles play as a freshman and went 37-6 during his sophomore campaign before turning pro in 2011.
