Liam Spence continued his offensive production Saturday against Georgia State.
Spence, the No. 17 Volunteers’ leadoff hitter, went 2-for-4 with an RBI triple to lead Tennessee to a 5-1 victory over Georgia State at Lindsey Stadium. The Australian native and UT shortstop also scored a run against the Panthers (4-8).
He gave Tennessee (10-2) a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning when his triple plated Christian Scott with the game’s first run. Spence would later come home on a double by Jake Rucker, who went 2-for-4.
Georgia State would score in the seventh inning before Vols’ first baseman Luc Lipcius blasted a three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth.
On the mound, starter Blade Tidwell (1-1) posted a solid performance as he tossed six scoreless innings. He surrendered four hits and two walks, while striking out seven Panthers before giving way to Sean Hunley.
Hunley went just one inning. He gave up one run and two hits, while fanning one.
Redmond Walsh went two innings to notch his second save of the season. He struck out two, while yielding one hit.
