A trio of University of Tennessee track and field athletes captured victories Friday as the Vols and Lady Vols were in action in Blacksburg, Virginia at the Virginia Tech Doc Hale Elite Meet.
Tennessee’s Joe Hoots won the 800-meter run. Joella Lloyd of the Lady Vols won the 60-meter dash and Anthony Riley won the men’s long jump.
Hoots, a sophomore for the Vols, came in first in the 800 as he posted a time of 1minute, 50.83 seconds.
Lloyd, who hails from Antigua and Barbuda, picked up her first event victory of the season by winning the 60-meter dash, completing the short race in 7.33 seconds. Lloyd is a redshirt sophomore for the Lady Vols.
Riley, another sophomore in the Tennessee track and field program, prevailed in the long jump, posting s leap of 7.47 meters (24-6.25).
Riley, a native of Oklahoma City, also won his first event of the indoor season as he edged Duke’s Ezra Mellinger, who posted a mark of 7.44 meters (24 feet, 5 inches).
