Tennessee baseball ties program-long win streak of 16 games against Western Carolina.

No.1 Tennessee defeated Western Carolina, 11-1, at Lindsey Nelson Stadium Wednesday.

Tennessee (24-1, 6-0 SEC) recorded 11 hits and took advantage of two errors by the Catamounts (11-14, 0-0 SoCon) before an announced crowd of 4, 607 fans.

Tennessee had two home runs in the first inning. Christian Moore led off the frame with a solo home run. Drew Gilbert added a two-run home run in the inning.

The Vols added three more runs in the third inning on a sacrifice fly by Cortland Lawson to make it 4-0. Luc Lipcius and Gilbert both came home later in the inning on a Western Carolina error.

Moore had a two-run triple in the fifth inning. Blake Burke added a three-run double in the sixth inning.

Moore went 2-for-5 with three RBIs and one run. Gilbert had two hits, three runs scored and drove in two. Burke finished with two hits and three RBIs.

Will Mabrey (2-0) earned the victory, pitching 1.1 innings with four strikeouts.

Blade Tidwell made his 2022 debut as he pitched the sixth inning for the Vols. He surrendered one run and two hits, while striking out two.
