Tennessee football: Players who wore No. 66

KNOXVILLE — The University of Tennessee has a proud football program rich in tradition and history, and over the years many great players have played on Rocky Top.

Vols Wire looks at which players wore each jersey number for the Volunteers.

No. 66

The number goes back to 1939 at UT and it was first worn by Emil Hust.

Hust, an end for the Vols, wore the number between 1939-41. The number does not have much star power in the Tennessee football program, but it was worn by one former Volunteer, Richard Earl, who was drafted by the Buffalo Bills.

Earl, an offensive tackle, wore the number on Rocky Top during the 1970 and 1971 campaigns. He later worked as an assistant high school football coach and official in the Knoxville Area.

The Virginia native lettered in three seasons for the Vols. He passed away in 2016 at the age of 66.
