The Lady Vols’ doubles team of Tenika McGriffin and Daria Kuczer advanced in the NCAA doubles championships Tuesday.
McGriffin and Kuczer outlasted Wake Forest’s tandem of Anna Brylin and Brooke Killingsworth, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-4), advancing to the Round of 16 at Khan Outdoor Tennis Center in Champaign, Illinois.
The Demon Deacons’ tandem entered Tuesday’s match as the fifth-ranked doubles team in the nation.
Tennessee associate head coach Jarryd Chaplin discussed McGriffin and Kuczer.
“It was a very high-quality doubles match played by both teams,” Chaplin said. “Our girls complimented each other really well on the court. There isn’t much motivating I have to do out there as we move forward in the draw because I can sense their excitement.”
McGriffin and Kuczer, ranked No. 21 in the nation, will face Texas’ duo of Allura Zamarripa and Peyton Stearns at 9 p.m. EDT.
