Tee Higgins robbed of toe-drag swag touchdown by bad call, review

Bengals WR Tee Higgins was robbed of an amazing toe-tap touchdown by questionable officiating.

The Cincinnati Bengals came into Week 3’s matchup with the New York Jets with the NFL’s worst offense by DVOA, and a quarterback in Joe Burrow who has been getting his lunch eaten by Cover-2.

The last thing they needed was an officiating crew taking away incredible touchdowns. But that’s what happened with 9:49 left in the first quarter. Burrow hit Tee Huggins on this throw to the back of the end zone, and by all rights, this should have been a touchdown.

Higgins, covered by outstanding cornerback D.J. Reed, clearly got both feet in without the heel touching. Despite that, Jerome Boger and his crew originally ruled this an incompletion, and then upheld it on review.

Which should not have happened.

Burrow hit running back Samaje Perine for a 12-yard touchdown on the next play, but there was no reason for that next play to have happened. Tee Higgins was robbed of a touchdown on what was actually one of the more remarkable plays of the young season.
