Taylor Swift spoke about the Vienna cancelations in a heartfelt recap of her Eras Tour European leg

Swift speaks out for the first time on the shows that were canceled amid a terrorist threat.

Taylor Swift wrapped up the European leg of her Eras Tour on Tuesday night with one final show in London. In all, she performed in 11 countries and 17 cities over the span of several months, and the 14-time Grammy winner took to her Instagram page to share a personal message.

While the post encompassed the entire European leg, the singer spoke out for the first time about the three shows in Vienna that were canceled due to a terroristic threat. “Having our Vienna shows cancelled was devastating,” Swift wrote. “The reason for the cancelations filled me with a new sense of fear, and a tremendous amount of guilt because so many people had planned on coming to those shows. But I was also so grateful to the authorities because thanks to them, we were grieving concerts and not lives.”

Swift continued to expressly say the reason for her prolonged silence on the situation. “Let me be very clear: I am not going to speak about something publicly if I think doing so might provoke those who would want to harm the fans who come to my shows. In cases like this one, ‘silence’ is actually showing restraint, and waiting to express yourself at a time when it’s right to. My priority was finishing our European tour safely, and it is with great relief that I can say we did that.”

It was a fitting and touching conclusion to an incredible summer of music. The Eras Tour finishes up in December, and Swift will resume touring in Miami, Florida on October 18.
