Mack Brown and the UNC football staff have swung and missed on a few different quarterback prospects in the 2024 recruiting cycle. With Drake Maye likely leaving after this season, the Tar Heels will usher in a new era at the positon.

On Saturday, UNC picked up a crystal ball prediction for a recruiting target at the position as 247Sports national recruiting analyst Steve Wiltfong logged in his prediction for three-star quarterback Michael Merdinger. The Florida native has 13 offers in his recruitment and has been on UNC’s radar for a bit now.
While a crystal ball prediction doesn’t guarantee a commitment, it’s a good sign for fans of a team. That’s especially the case when it comes from a national recruiting analyst.
Merdinger is ranked No. 1,282 overall, No. 83 quarterback and the No. 174 player in the state of Florida per the 247Sports recruiting rankings.
Wiltfong’s prediction is the lone one for Merdinger and comes with a confidence of six. Could a commitment be on the horizon?
