Tar Heels move up in AP Top 25 poll for Week 3

The UNC football program moves up a few spots in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll released on Sunday.

The North Carolina Tar Heels slide up three spots to land at the No. 17th in this week’s Associated Press Poll.

UNC walks into conference play, hosting a 3-0 record, coming off their best win of the season. They dominated on both sides of the ball, showcasing a complete game. Drake Maye had his best game of the season, eclipsing 400+ passing yards for the second time in his career.

Along with Maye’s big game, transfer wide receiver Nate McCollum had his come-out party after battling injuries the first two games, finishing a reception shy from tying the school record with 15 catches for 165 yards.

The defense continued to shine for UNC, completely dominating Minnesota’s offense. They controlled the Gopher’s passing attack with constant pressure, allowing only 133 yards through the air. They were especially effective on third down, with Minnesota only converting 3 of 12 attempts.

UNC had yet to crack the top 15 this year, but they are knocking on the door, and if they can deliver another statement win against Pitt on Saturday, then that door should be wide open.
