To a lesser degree, speculation questioned rookie quarterback Jake Fromm’s standing with the team. Reportedly Davis Webb even outplayed Fromm during the limited training camp the Bills had this offseason… so could the Bills have cut the rookie? Much like Murphy’s status with the team, Beane sounded like that was never really in the cards for him, adding that it wouldn’t have really been fair to judge Fromm on his work during a limited COVID-19 offseason.

“Quarterback is probably the most-valuable position in all of sports. Definitely in football. We invested in Jake a fifth-round (pick). Unfortunately, no offseason for him. He didn’t get any reps in May and June. Now you come into a condensed preseason with no games,” Beane said.

Beane added that along with Fromm, Webb and Matt Barkley all really only played a small amount of snaps during training camp. Josh Allen took the most. But in that small portion, Beane did say he liked what he saw from Fromm during 11-on-11 work.

“He did move the ball,” Beane said. “He got better, still a lot to show for him, he’s a young guy. But you don’t want to give up on that position this early. I’d hate to release him and never see him play in a game for us.”
