Could the Commanders strike a deal for 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk?

Could Brandon Aiyuk be an option for the Commanders?

The Washington Commanders got their man on Thursday night, selecting LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels with the second overall pick of the 2024 NFL draft.

The goal now is to surround him with plenty of help. The Commanders need an offensive tackle and will likely address the issue with one of their second-round picks on Friday.

Washington could also use more help at wide receiver. Yes, the Commanders have Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson. Curtis Samuel is gone. Washington could take one of the draft’s top remaining wide receiver prospects, but there could be another opportunity to help Daniels.

The San Francisco 49ers surprisingly selected Florida wide receiver Ricky Pearsall with the 31st overall pick. Why? The 49ers are shopping wide receivers Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk. Samuel is a star but is expensive and battled injuries. Aiyuk is on the verge of superstardom but is about to get paid. San Francisco can only pay so many players.

Could Aiyuk be an option for Washington? General manager Adam Peters knows the Niners well, having spent the past eight seasons there and played a role in drafting Samuel and Aiyuk. He would also know if Aiyuk is a realistic option. Other teams are needing wide receiver help, too, such as the Buffalo Bills. But, Washington could have advantages over others.

First, the Commanders have the draft capital to satisfy the 49ers. Second, Aiyuk’s good friend is Daniels. They were once teammates at Arizona State, and Daniels mentioned Friday how close the two were.

Finally, Washington has the salary cap flexibility to satisfy Aiyuk’s contract demands.

Could a deal happen on Friday? It’s certainly something to watch and makes sense on multiple levels. McLaurin and Aiyuk would give the Commanders an elite duo.

Instant 2024 NFL Draft grades: Pittsburgh Steelers select Troy Fautanu, OL, Washington

Instant 2024 NFL Draft grades: Pittsburgh Steelers select Troy Fautanu, OL, Washington

The Pittsburgh Steelers made an offensive tackle their first selection last year, and they decided to do the same this year with the selection of Washington offensive lineman Troy Fautanu.

Fautanu projects as an immediate starter on the right side of the line, opposite of last year’s first-round pick in Broderick Jones. Fautanu was rock solid at Washington and brought a level of meanness and tenacity that fits Pittsburgh like a glove.

A huge human who struck fear into the hearts of opposing pass rushers, Fautanu was one of the best tackles in the country last season. Though he will likely stick at tackle with the Steelers, Fautanu has the flexibility to play on either side of the line or kick in at guard. An elite talent with versatility, Fautanu is a match made in heaven for the Steelers.

Instant 2024 NFL Draft grades: Philadelphia Eagles select Quinyon Mitchell, CB, Toledo 22nd overall

Instant 2024 NFL Draft grades: Philadelphia Eagles select Quinyon Mitchell, CB, Toledo 22nd overall

The Philadelphia became the first team to jump on a cornerback late into the draft and snag the best one in Toledo defensive back Quinyon Mitchell, who will bring even more depth to a talented Philadelphia defensive unit.

Mitchell projects as a depth player who will slide in on certain packages for a stacked Eagles’ defense. Given the level of talent he possesses, Mitchell should be able to take over the starting role within the next two seasons.

Physicality, discipline, and elite production made Mitchell the top corner in this class, and he should be an immediate impact player who will willingly come down and smack receivers who catch balls in his area.

Instant 2024 NFL Draft grades: Jacksonville Jaguars select Brian Thomas Jr., WR, LSU

Instant 2024 NFL Draft grades: Jacksonville Jaguars select Brian Thomas Jr., WR, LSU

The run on receivers paused after the ninth pick in this draft and was rejuvenated when the Jacksonville Jaguars picked LSU wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr.

Thomas Jr. projects as an immediate starter on the outside opposite Christian Kirk after receiver Calvin Ridley’s departure. He is a deep ball monster and should replace some of that production in his rookie season with the Jaguars.

Size, speed, length, and explosion, Brian Thomas Jr. was a nightmare to defend on the loaded LSU offense. Thomas Jr. will bring that same level of deep ball production to the next level and force defenses to respect the deep portions of the field.

Instant 2024 NFL Draft grades: Tampa Bay Buccaneers select Graham Barton

Instant 2024 NFL Draft grades: Tampa Bay Buccaneers select OL Graham Barton from Duke

The Buccaneers’ number one need heading into the draft was interior offensive line talent, and they landed one of the best and most versatile at the position in Duke offensive lineman Graham Barton.

Barton projects as an immediate starter at either left guard or center and can realistically kick around to any position on the offensive line if needed. He will help secure what was a shaky offensive line and make the Buccaneers an even more dangerous offensive unit.

A starter at left tackle, Barton is fundamentally sound, has excellent feet, top-tier play strength, and plenty of versatility, having bounced around the line. Expect Barton to be one of the better rookie players in his rookie year.

Instant 2024 NFL Draft grades: Green Bay Packers select Jordan Morgan, OT, Arizona

Instant 2024 NFL Draft grades: Green Bay Packers select Jordan Morgan, OT, Arizona

The Green Bay Packers renew the run on offensive lineman by taking yet another pass protector and help sure up a shaky line with the selection of Arizona offensive tackle Jordan Morgan.

Morgan projects as an immediate starter opposite of Rasheed Walker. The Packers struggled to find an answer last season at the right tackle spot and secure that here with the selection of Morgan.

A huge human who is athletic, productive, and with plenty of room to grow into his role, Morgan is going to be a plug and play right tackle with the potential to eventually move over to the left side of the line. Morgan is a solid pick for a team desperate for tackle help.

Instant 2024 NFL Draft grades: Los Angeles Rams select Jared Verse, EDGE, Florida State 19th overall

Instant 2024 NFL Draft grades: Los Angeles Rams select Jared Verse, EDGE, Florida State 19th overall

After the departure of Aaron Donald the Los Angeles Rams had to get some more defensive line talent, and while he won’t replace the future hall of famer, Florida State edge rusher Jared Verse is a good start.

Verse projects as the immediate starter opposite of last years rookie phenom in Byron Young. The Rams defense was an underrated unit last year and Verse helps them bring a bully to the edge of this defense.

With excellent length, incredible play strength, and a mean streak, Verse is going to make sure his impact is felt early on in Los Angeles. While he will need to add some more tools to his pass rushing tool box, Verse is ready to go day one.

Commanders GM Adam Peters: We knew it was Daniels for a long time

Adam Peters knew it was going to be Jayden Daniels for a long time.

Shortly after the Washington Commanders selected LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels No. 2 overall in the 2024 NFL draft, general manager Adam Peters joined the “Pat McAfee Show” to discuss the pick.

McAfee kicked off the conversation, asking Peters how he was doing.

“Doing great, how you guys doing,” Peters asked. “I’m doing a lot better now, I can tell you that.”

While there were many rumors that Washington liked Drake Maye and J.J. McCarthy, the pick was always going to be Daniels.

“It was a process, and I think that’s what I learned from the guy next to you (Bill Belichick), just being process-oriented, we wanted to get through everything before we settled on a decision, but we knew this one for a long time.”

As for the Top Golf silliness, Peters explained why he chose that process for the top-30 visit and what he learned about Daniels. It sounds like Peters thought the whole thing was overblown.

WATCH: New Bears teammates Caleb Williams, Rome Odunze greet each other at NFL Draft

Caleb Williams made sure to find Rome Odunze at the NFL Draft after he was selected by the Bears.

The Chicago Bears ushered in a new era on offense Thursday night at the 2024 NFL Draft when they selected quarterback Caleb Williams No. 1 overall and wide receiver Rome Odunze at No. 9 overall. Williams had long been the favorite to be selected by the Bears, but Odunze was not as much of a certainty. It was music to Williams’ ears, though, as the new Bears quarterback couldn’t wait to greet his new teammate while at the draft in Detroit.

Williams snuck up behind Odunze while he was on a laptop, and the two embraced in a hug before firing each other up. “LeBron, D-Wade,” Williams said excitedly. “I’m ready, baby.”

The two were opponents the last two years when they were at USC and Washington, respectively, but got to know one another during their time in the PAC-12. They were seen dapping each other up at the NFL Combine and made some news earlier this week when they were on the same flight to Detroit. It’s safe to say they will happily share a flight to Chicago when both are introduced as Bears on Friday.

Instant 2024 NFL Draft grades: Seattle Seahawks select Byron Murphy, IDL, Texas 16th overall

Instant 2024 NFL Draft grades: Seattle Seahawks select Byron Murphy, IDL, Texas 16th overall

The Seattle Seahawks continue to build a staggeringly talented defensive unit by adding the best interior defender in this entire class with the selection of Texas defensive tackle Byron Murphy.

Murphy projects as the immediate starter in the middle of a loaded Seattle defense and has the ability to be the disrupting, electric interior pass-rushing force this team has been missing.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”5375″ ]

A massive human who posted an incredible pass rushing win rate with raw talent that begs to be molded, Murphy is going to cement himself as a force in the NFC West and make that Seattle secondary even better by forcing earlier throws. Don’t be surprised if Murphy is a 10-sack man from the get-go.
