LSU to host Mississippi State cornerback transfer for visit, per report

The Tigers are hosting one of the best cornerbacks in the portal this weekend.

LSU has already landed one Mississippi State transfer this offseason in receiver [autotag]Zavion Thomas[/autotag], and its looking to land one of his teammates as well in cornerback [autotag]Decamerion Richardson[/autotag].

According to a report from 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz, the Tigers will be hosting the veteran transfer. Like Thomas, he’s a Louisiana native who hails from Cullen and played his high school ball at Bossier.

Richardson will be a fifth-year senior in 2024, and he brings quite a bit of SEC experience to the table. He’s appeared in 45 games in four years in Starkville, making 26 starts including every game over the past two seasons.

According to Zenitz, Richardson has also visited Oregon.

Cornerback depth was a major issue for the Tigers in 2023, and with one of its top contributors entering the portal in [autotag]Sage Ryan[/autotag], landing a plug-and-play starter like Richardson would be huge.

LSU lands Mississippi State WR transfer Zavion Thomas

LSU has added a talented wide receiver to next year’s team.

LSU has just added a talented wide receiver to next year’s team. One of Louisiana’s own is coming back home.

[autotag]Zavion Thomas[/autotag] is a 5-foot-11, 190-pound wide receiver from Woodmere, Louisiana. Thomas committed to Mississippi State out of high school and he has since spent two years with the Bulldogs and played in 22 games. This season, he made 40 receptions for 503 yards and one touchdown.

Thomas makes plays in more ways than just a wide receiver. He is one of the best kick returners in the NCAA. In six kick returns this year, Thomas had six returns for 202 yards and one touchdown. His lone touchdown was a 94-yard touchdown return. He will be a dangerous player on special teams for LSU next year.

With [autotag]Malik Nabers[/autotag] and [autotag]Brian Thomas Jr.[/autotag] likely leaving LSU to go to the NFL, the Tigers will need some experienced wide receivers to help teach the young players the ropes.

According to Jeffrey Lee of Auburn Live ($), Thomas will visit the Plains this weekend.

Thomas was Mississippi State’s second-leading receiver in 2023 with 503 yards on 40 catches with one touchdown in 11 games this season, trailing just Tulu Griffin for the top spot. According to Pro Football Focus data, Thomas caught 40 of his 58 targeted passes this season with three drops and five contested catches.

Auburn offers Mississippi State transfer WR Zavion Thomas

The Louisiana native was Mississippi State’s No. 2 wide receiver as a sophomore before entering the transfer portal.

Auburn needs some help at wide receiver and the Tigers are dipping into the transfer portal to try and address the need. Auburn’s latest offer is to [autotag]Zavion Thomas[/autotag], who spent the last two seasons at Mississippi State.

He caught 40 passes for 503 yards and one touchdown and also returned a kickoff for a touchdown last season. The Louisiana native finished the season with a receiving grade of 74.8 according to Pro Football Focus, the second highest of any Bulldog.

The 5-foot-11, 190-pounder has emerged as a popular name in the portal, picking up offers from Oregon, South Carolina, Arkansas and LSU in addition to Auburns.

The Tigers are looking for several wide receivers to help bridge the gap between the departing veterans and the talented freshman who will be signing with Auburn as members of the 2024 recruiting class.

LSU offers Mississippi State transfer

Zavion Thomas is one of the best return specialists in the country.

Well, that did not take long.

On Tuesday, Louisiana native [autotag]Zavion Thomas[/autotag] entered his name into the transfer portal after spending a few years in Starkville at Mississippi State.

On Wednesday, Thomas tweeted that he received an offer from LSU to play for the Tigers next fall. Although Thomas was a four-star wide receiver and a Louisiana native, he did not receive an offer from LSU out of high school. Mississippi State was the only SEC team to extend him an offer.

With the Tigers possibly losing [autotag]Malik Nabers[/autotag], [autotag]Brian Thomas Jr[/autotag]. and [autotag]Kyren Lacy[/autotag] after this year, LSU will be looking for some impact players at wide receiver and I believe that Thomas can fill that role.

I have mentioned how good Thomas is at wide receiver but where he makes a difference is on special teams. He is one of the best return specialists in the country.

Another Louisiana native with SEC experience enters the transfer portal

A former wide receiver from the state of Louisiana has entered the transfer portal.

A former wide receiver from the state of Louisiana has entered the transfer portal. [autotag]Zavion Thomas[/autotag] is a wide receiver from Woodmere, Louisiana who committed to Mississippi State out of high school and has now decided to leave Starkville in pursuit of greener pastures.

Thomas has appeared in 11 games this season for the Bulldogs and has hauled in 40 receptions for 503 yards and a touchdown. Thomas was a four-star recruit at John Ehret High School but he did not have an offer from LSU. He had 11 offers in high school and Mississippi State was the only SEC team that offered him.

Now, he is in the transfer portal and there is a possibility that he could come back to the boot to play for LSU. The Tigers will be losing [autotag]Malik Nabers[/autotag], [autotag]Brian Thomas Jr.[/autotag], and possibly [autotag]Kyren Lacy[/autotag] at the end of the year. [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] could be searching for depth at wide receiver.
