Kim Mulkey stays hot on recruiting trail, adding five-star to 2025 class

Kim Mulkey stays hot on the recruiting trail, adding a five-star to the 2025 class

[autotag]Kim Mulkey[/autotag] made it a habit of adding talent when she arrived at LSU. Whether it’s on the recruiting trail or the transfer portal, we’ve seen a flurry of high-profile additions in the last few years.

The trend continues with Mulkey adding a five-star to LSU’s 2025 class. Guard [autotag]Zakiyah Johnson[/autotag] committed to the Tigers on Sunday, giving LSU the No. 4 overall prospect in the class per On3.

ESPN is high on Johnson too, ranking her No. 13 overall.

Johnson is a Kentucky native, but nabbing out-of-state talent isn’t an issue for Mulkey and staff. After a national title and another deep tournament run, LSU women’s basketball is a national brand.

Johnson is LSU’s third addition to the 2025 class, joining [autotag]Bella Hines[/autotag] and [autotag]Divine Bourrage. [/autotag]

LSU is hoping Johnson isn’t the last marquee addition. Aaliyah Chavez, the top prospect in the country, remains an LSU target too.

As for the current Tigers, LSU begins its season on Monday night against Eastern Kentucky. Later in the week, LSU hosts a meeting with instate competition Northwestern State.

LSU women’s basketball the favorite to land 2025’s top overall recruit

LSU is the favorite to land the top recruit in the 2025 class.

[autotag]Kim Mulkey[/autotag] is an elite recruiter. She’s won several national championships by assembling teams of future WNBA stars. At LSU, it’s been more of the same, with Mulkey building one of the best recruiting staffs in the country.

Mulkey and Co. are working on landing one of their biggest pieces yet in 2025 five-star [autotag]Aaliyah Chavez[/autotag]. According to On3, Chavez is the top recruit in the class and per its Prediction Machine, LSU is the favorite to land Chavez at 62%.

The next closest school is Texas Tech, all the way down at 5%. Chavez broke down her top schools for On3 earlier this month.

“They’ve recruited me very well,” She said of LSU, “I think I talk to at least an assistant coach every day.”

Chavez said LSU is a winning program, something that’s important to her and cited the high energy she witnessed on her visit to Baton Rouge.

LSU already has an elite guard on board this cycle with Bella Hines, but Chavez would propel LSU’s class to another level. The Tigers remain involved with [autotag]ZaKiyah Johnson[/autotag] too, but LSU will have to battle Kentucky on that front.

[autotag]Kim Mulkey[/autotag] is preparing to enter her fourth year at LSU. Her program is firmly established as one that recruits can come to reach the next level. The success [autotag]Angel Reese[/autotag] is having as a rookie in the WNBA can’t hurt either.

LSU women’s basketball makes the cut for another top 10 prospect

LSU remains in the mix for several elite prospects in the 2025 class.

The LSU women’s basketball team is looking to add to a 2025 recruiting class that already features one top-25 prospect in [autotag]Bella Hines[/autotag], and it made the cut for a pair of players in the top 10 this week.

[autotag]ZaKiyah Johnson[/autotag], a Kentucky shooting guard who ranks as the No. 4 player in the class, announced her finalists on Thursday. On Friday, she was joined by shooting guard [autotag]Divine Bourrage[/autotag], the No. 7 player in the class per On3 from Davenport, Iowa.

LSU is joined in the five-star’s top six by Illinois, Baylor, South Carolina, Virginia Tech and Arizona. Bourrage told On3’s Talia Goodman she plans to unofficially visit all six.

In addition to these players, On3 currently views LSU as the favorite for [autotag]Aaliyah Chavez[/autotag], the No. 1 player in the nation from Lubbock, Texas. The Tigers are still looking to flesh out their 2025 class, but it has the chance to be an elite group.

Notre Dame one of six finalists for five-star 2025 Kentucky guard

This would be a huge get.

Notre Dame is projected to have a big 2024-25 season, but the question is whether 2025-26 and beyond will be special. If the Irish have their way, one addition to their roster will make things a lot easier.

Zakiyah Johnson, a five-star guard from Kentucky, is projected by multiple sites as the best 2025 recruit in her state. She’s been named the Gatorade Kentucky Girls Basketball Player of the Year three years in a row. And she’s listed Notre Dame as one of the six programs to make her final cut:

When asked by On3 what she liked about each program, Johnson said this about the Irish:

“It’s all girl coaches – I like the way they run their program. I’m also really big on fashion, and I think they do a really good job with it. Coach [Niele] Ivey is very sweet, and Coach [Michaela] Mabrey is very sweet. I can kind of connect with them because they’re younger. It’s really just a vibe you have to be there to feel.”

Let’s hope the vibe is strong enough to lead her to South Bend.

LSU women’s basketball makes the cut for top-5 prospect in 2025 class

The Tigers made the final six for an elite prospect in the 2025 class in ZaKiyah Johnson.

The LSU women’s basketball team already has one 2025 commitment on board in top 25 combo guard [autotag]Bella Hines[/autotag], and it remains in the mix for a couple of elite players in the cycle.

The Tigers are currently the favorite to land No. 1 overall prospect [autotag]Aaliyah Chavez[/autotag], and now, they’ve made the cut for another top-five prospect as [autotag]ZaKiyah Johnson[/autotag] included them in her top six along with USC, Kentucky, Notre Dame, South Carolina and Louisville.

The Sacred Heart Academy (Shelbyville, Ky.) shooting guard is the No. 4 player in America per On3, and while Tennessee was seen as the leader, the Volunteers didn’t make her final six.

Johnson is set to take an official visit to Lexington on Friday, according to On3’s Talia Goodman, and she plans to officially visit her other finalists, as well. That includes LSU, which is currently set to host her on Sept. 7.
