Boston Red Sox place former Vols’ pitcher Zack Godley on injured list.

BOSTON — The Boston Red Sox have placed Zack Godley on the injured list.

Godley, a former University of Tennessee pitcher, was shelved Thursday with a right elbow flexor strain. He was placed on the 10-day injured list.

Godley has struggled since being acquired by Boston after being placed on waivers by the Detroit Tigers late in spring training.

He has appeared in eight games and made seven starts, but he has yet to go five innings in any of his appearances.

The former Vol is 0-4 with an 8.16 earned run average in 2020. He does have 28 strikeouts this season. Godley has surrendered 26 runs (all earned), 42 hits and 14 walks.

He has also surrendered nine home runs this season.

Godley previously played for the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Chicago Cubs.

BOSTON — Former University of Tennessee baseball player Zack Godley had another rough outing on the mound for the Boston Red Sox Friday afternoon.

Godley, a right-handed pitcher, made another start for the Red Sox in their 8-7 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays in the first game of a double header at Fenway Park.

With the loss, Godley dropped to 0-4 on the season.

He pitched three innings and surrendered four runs (all earned), five hits and a walk en route to being tagged with the loss. He had four strikeouts and his earned run average ballooned to 8.16.

Godley was acquired by the Red Sox late in spring training after he was released by the Detroit Tigers.

In his Major League career, Godley has also pitched for the Blue Jays and the Arizona Diamondbacks.

BOSTON — Zack Godley took the mound Sunday for the Boston Red Sox and he had another rough outing against the defending World Series champions Washington Nationals.

Godley, a former University of Tennessee baseball player, pitched a season-high 4.2 innings in Boston’s 9-5 victory over the Nationals Sunday afternoon at Fenway Park.

He surrendered five earned runs, eight hits (including a pair of home runs), a walk and struck out three. The former Vol is, however, still in search of his first victory for the Red Sox.

Godley, who was signed by Boston after being released by the Detroit Tigers in spring training, is now 0-3 with a 7.71 earned run average.

He has made seven appearances for Boston, including six starts.

Despite his abysmal appearance on the mound, the Red Sox (12-22) won the weekend series against the Nationals (12-19).

BALTIMORE — Former University of Tennessee baseball player Zack Godley had another rough outing for the Boston Red Sox on Sunday.

Godley surrendered three runs (all earned) in Boston’s 5-4 loss to the Baltimore Orioles.

With the defeat, he dropped to 0-3 this season. It was Godley’s sixth appearance and fifth start of the season for the Red Sox, who are in last place in the American League East with a 9-20 record.

Godley, who was acquired by Boston after being released by the Detroit Tigers in spring training, has had a roller coaster ride of a season and has yet to go more than four innings in a game in 2020. His appearances have alternated between good and bad for Boston this season as he has a 7.29 earned run average.

The former Vol gave up three runs to the Orioles (14-14) in the bottom of the third inning. He also surrendered two hits and five walks, while recording two strikeouts in 2.2 innings.

The Red Sox fell to the Philadelphia Phillies, 13-6, at Fenway Park, but Godley pitched four innings against Philadelphia and did not figure in the decision as Boston was holding a 3-1 lead when he left the game.

He surrendered one run, four hits and a walk. He had four strikeouts for the Red Sox, who dropped to 6-18 with the loss, which was their ninth consecutive defeat,

Godley has made five appearances for the Red Sox, including four starts. He is 0-2 with a 6.18 ERA since joining Boston after being released by the Detroit Tigers in spring training.

BOSTON — Zack Godley had a rough outing and suffered his second loss of the 2020 season. The former University of Tennessee right-handed pitcher was shelled Wednesday night in his start against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Godley (0-2) has made four appearances, including three starts, for the Boston Red Sox this season.

Godley went just three innings in Boston’s 9-5 loss to its American League East rival, the Tampa Bay Rays at Fenway Park.

He gave up eight runs (all earned), 10 hits and two walks. Godley, who was signed by the Red Sox (6-12) after being released by the Detroit Tigers, has been inconsistent in three starts and one relief outing this season.

He struck out three against the Rays (11-8). Godley, who has an 8.16 earned run average, surrendered three home runs against the Rays.

His outing was short but effective as the Red Sox, dropping a 2-1 decision to the Blue Jays at Fenway Park.

Godley, a former University of Tennessee pitcher who was signed by the Red Sox after being released by the Detroit Tigers late in spring training, threw four scoreless innings against one of his former teams.

He surrendered three hits and two walks while striking out three.

Last season, Godley spent time with the Blue Jays and the Arizona Diamondbacks.

In his first start this season, Godley (0-1) was roughed up by the Yankees. He gave up a grand slam in a 5-2 loss to New York.

He was impressive in his first outing for the Red Sox. throwing four innings and striking out seven against the New York Mets.

NEW YORK — Zack Godley made his first start on the mound for the Boston Red Sox and things could not have gone much worse for the former University of Tennessee pitcher.

Godley, who signed with Boston late in spring training after being released by the Detroit Tigers, was shelled by the host Yankees in a short outing.

New York, which won the game 5-2, touched Godley for five runs and six hits in just 3.1 innings Saturday. One of those hits was a grand slam home run by Gio Urshela.

Godley, who previously played for the Arizona Diamondbacks and Toronto Blue Jays, walked two and struck out one in his outing at Yankee Stadium.

His first appearance for the Red Sox (3-6) was against the New York Mets on July 27.

He pitched four innings of scoreless relief and struck out seven in Boston’s 7-4 loss against the Mets at Fenway Park.

BOSTON — Former University of Tennessee baseball player Zack Godley has signed with the Boston Red Sox.

Godley was recently released by the Detroit Tigers.

Godley has played in the big leagues since 2015. He has spent the majority of his Major League career with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The former Vol was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 10th round of the 2013 Major League Baseball draft.

Godley was traded to Arizona in 2014.

In 2018, he went 15-11 for the Diamondbacks. In 2019, he was designated for assignment and claimed off waivers by the Toronto Blue Jays.
