Should the Broncos pursue tight end Zach Ertz?

Veteran tight end Zach Ertz is about to hit the waiver wire. Should the Broncos put in a claim?

Following the emergence of Trey McBride, fellow tight end Zach Ertz has requested and has been granted his release from the Arizona Cardinals, former teammate JJ Watt first reported on Thursday.

Ertz, 33, will now be subject to the NFL’s waiver wire. The Broncos are currently 19th in the waiver wire order, but some of the league’s top contenders such as the San Francisco 49ers (29), Baltimore Ravens (31) and Philadelphia Eagles (32) are below Denver.

If a team claims Ertz off waivers, that club will owe his remaining  $2.5 million salary. The Broncos have an estimated $1.44 million in salary cap space, according to OverTheCap.com, so the team would have to do some cap reshuffling in order to make a potential claim work.

If he goes unclaimed on waivers, Ertz would become a free agent, eligible to sign with any team, and he would presumably prefer a Super Bowl contender.

Fans and pundits in Denver had mixed opinions on the Broncos potentially pursuing Ertz.

Should the Ravens have interest in TE Zach Ertz after he’s waived by the Cardinals?

The Cardinals are waiving veteran tight end Zach Ertz, who requested his release and we think the Ravens should have interest if he’s not claimed

The Ravens are always looking to add talent to the roster, and with Mark Andrews injured, could the team look to a future Hall of Famer?

The Cardinals and tight end Zach Ertz are mutually parting ways, with Arizona deciding to move forward with Trey McBride as the feature tight end while allowing Ertz to finish the season somewhere else.

If Ertz is claimed, he’ll be owed a little over $2.5 million for the rest of the season.

Andrew is a longshot to return to the lineup this season.

Still, production at the position has been limited when he’s out of the lineup, and Ertz could provide Lamar Jackson with a trusted security blanket if needed.

Ertz exited Philadelphia with 579 receptions, 6,267 yards, and 38 touchdowns, the most catches by a tight end in a single season. He’ll go down as one of the best players in franchise history and is now looking for one more Super Bowl run.

5 Zach Ertz landing spots after J.J. Watt broke news of the tight end’s release

Tight end Zach Ertz could be heading to a Super Bowl contender near you.

Veteran NFL tight end Zach Ertz is the latest player to get waived so that he might be able to play for a contender.

The former Arizona Cardinals tight end got released from that team on Thursday, as former Cardinals player J.J. Watt broke the news on Twitter.

Ertz is an interesting name to get cut loose this time of year, as he’s won a Super Bowl before with the Philadelphia Eagles and could still be a reliable part of any team’s passing attack.

The tight end has 187 yards and a touchdown this season, but much of that has been with up-and-down reserve quarterback play in Arizona.

Ertz could land with any number of contending teams, including Philadelphia where his career started a decade ago.

Let’s check out who those contending teams could be and why they all might be inclined to add a solid veteran like Ertz at this point in the season.

TE Zach Ertz headed to injured reserve with quad injury

Ertz, who has 27 catches through seven games, will be out at least the next four games. He can return in Week 12 to face the Rams at home.

The Arizona Cardinals are losing another starter to injury. The latest is tight end Zach Ertz. According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo and Tom Pelissero, the Cardinals will place him on injured reserve for a quad injury he sustained during Sunday’s 20-10 road loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

It means that he will miss at least the next four games. The Cardinals face the Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns, Atlanta Falcons and Houston Texans over the next four weeks.

The earliest he would return would be in Week 12 to face the Los Angeles Rams at home.

It is the second consecutive season he lands on injured reserve. He came back from a torn ACL.

Through seven games, Ertz has 27 receptions for 187 yards and a touchdown.

In his absence, it means a greater role for both Trey McBride and Geoff Swaim, with more opportunities for rookie Elijah Higgins, who made his NFL debut on Sunday.

Ertz joins running back James Conner on injured reserve.

Report: Eagles’ GM Howie Roseman ‘working the phones’ to add a safety before trade deadline

The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reports that #Eagles GM Howie Roseman has been working the phones and is specifically trying to trade for a safety,

The NFL trade deadline is slated for October 31, and with the expected Halloween deals likely to make it a historic day, we’re tracking whether Philadelphia will be buyers ahead of the stretch run.

The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reports that GM Howie Roseman has been “working the phones” diligently, looking to add an impact defender, preferably at the safety position.

Eagles general manager Howie Roseman always has some magic up his sleeve, and he’s been working the phone. The Eagles are apparently staying put on running back Rashaad Penny, knowing depth will be necessary for a team that should be making a long postseason run. Philly is looking to make some additions on defense after they suffered a handful of injuries in the defensive backfield, specifically targeting a safety.

Second-year safety Reed Blankenship has dealt with rib injuries.

At the same time, Justin Evans has missed time with multiple injuries, along with rookie Sydney Brown, who missed three games with a hamstring injury.

The names the Eagles could target include Budda Baker and Justin Simmons, to name a few.

Fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em: Week 6

Check out these starts and sits for fantasy football in Week 6.

As the fantasy football season rages on into the heart of the campaign, managers continue to face crucial start/sit decisions as it pertains to their lineups.

Fortunately, only two teams have the week off. Teams on a bye in Week 6 include the Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers.

Doing start/sit articles can be a little challenging. The players featured on the list below should not be taken as “must starts” or “must sits.” Instead, these are more suggestions on what we believe managers should do with fringe players heading into the weekend. The choice is ultimately up to the manager.

Just because a player is listed as a “start” doesn’t mean he should be put in the lineup over the secure, bona fide studs. Vice versa for the “sits.” If there’s no better option on the waiver wire or the bench, a manager shouldn’t automatically sit the player. That’s why these can be tricky waters to navigate.
