Five-star prospect projected to Auburn basketball

On3 has Traore’s chances of joining Auburn at 93.6 percent.

One of the top basketball recruits in the nation could be heading to The Plains.

Five-star power forward Yohan Traore recently decommitted from the LSU Tigers in the wake of coach Will Wade’s departure. Auburn had reached out to the Arizona native earlier in the month, but On3, who has Traore as the No. 6 prospect in 2022, has given Auburn a 93.6 percent chance to land Traore. The next highest team in the running is the Michigan Wolverines with a 1.9 percent chance.

Traore would be a big get for Auburn if the Tigers could manage to land him. The certain departure of Jabari Smith from the team leaves room for another superstar to take his place, and Traore could slot right in to fill that role should he decide to become a Tiger. The two players both play the same position, so it’s possible Auburn could still use a similar playstyle to the one it employed with Smith this year.

Auburn has two recruits for the 2022 class at the moment — Forward Chance Westry, a four-star prospect ranked 31st in the nation by 247Sports, and point guard Tre Donaldson, who also committed to Auburn to play safety for the football team. Traore, should he become the third, would be an instant boost to Auburn’s 2022 squad that would look to repeat as regular-season SEC champions and to improve on its exits from both the SEC and the NCAA tournaments.

Auburn, Bruce Pearl recently offered LSU decommit Yohan Traore

Auburn wasting no time in pursuing Yohan Traore

On Tuesday afternoon, five-star Center Yohan Traore announced his decommitment from LSU.

The news comes roughly ten days after former LSU head coach Will Wade was fired. Traore became the third and final player to decommit since Wade’s departure.

An interesting development to keep an eye on is the recruitment of both Traore and Julian Phillips. Both were either offered or have been in contact with them during their recruitments. The two could be a combo package for wherever they decide to go.

The Tigers recently offered Traore on Mar. 15. It came just three days after the firing of Will Wade. Auburn is definitely one of the top schools to land him.

LSU basketball loses final commit in 2022 recruiting class

With Yohan Traore backing off his pledge, the Tigers’ current recruiting class sits vacant.

When Tigers athletic director Scott Woodward made the decision to fire men’s basketball coach Will Wade on March 13 as a result of the NCAA’s investigation into the program, it would have been reasonable to guess that some roster attrition was likely to follow.

What has happened since for LSU, however, could be deemed a worst-case scenario. The Tigers lost both of their 2022 signees in the wake of Wade’s departure when Julian Phillips and Devin Ree were released from their letters of intent and decommitted.

Now, LSU has lost the final piece of its 2022 class as five-star Glendale (Arizona) Dream City Christian center Yohan Traore backed off his pledge to the Tigers.

LSU also lost its lone commit in the 2023 class in five-star point guard Marvel Allen.

Now, the Tigers are left with a completely bare 2022 class with not much time to get things fixed. National signing day is on April 13, meaning new coach Matt McMahon has just over three weeks to try to find at least one player to add to the class.

Barring something unforeseen, the transfer portal will likely be this team’s best bet to rebuild for 2022-23, and given the state of college sports, it’s very likely McMahon could target some of his former Murray State players to make the jump to the power conference ranks.

LSU lands five-star commitment from Yohan Traore

Another big-time addition to Will Wade’s 2022 class.

It didn’t go well on the court for the LSU Tigers in the SEC/Big 12 challenge when they faced off with the TCU Horned Frogs. However, Will Wade received some good news on Sunday. Five-Star center Yohan Traore committed to playing for the Tigers in 2022.

Traore was down to several schools with Kansas, Michigan, Memphis, and Texas Tech all in the mix. Ultimately he opted to play down on the Bayou for Will Wade. This would give the Bayou Bengals a solid one-two punch down low with fellow five-star Efton Reid. That is provided that Reid sticks around for another season in Baton Rouge.

Traore is a menace in the paint and a true rim protector. It isn’t uncommon to see him launch a blocked shot into the seats. With the addition of Traore, LSU has the No. 11 ranked recruiting class for 2022. He joins four-star small forward Terry Ree and McDonald’s All-American and five-star signee Julian Phillips.

This gives LSU two of the top 15 recruits in the nation. Phillips plays power forward and Traore can play either the four or five spot on the floor. Plenty of frontcourt talent is coming to the PMAC.
