The Auburn Tigers’ wonderful season came to a close during the Clemson Regional last weekend, as Auburn fell to the hosts, 5-1 in game seven of an exciting regional.

The season ended with a 43-19 record, which is the most wins for an Auburn team since [autotag]Mickey Dean[/autotag] took over the program prior to the 2018 season. The Tigers also went 15-9 in SEC play to finish as the No. 3 team, behind just Tennessee and Georgia.

As the season ends, it is now time to reflect on the year that was. Next up in our series is senior, [autotag]Lindsey Garcia[/autotag]. Garcia started 159 games in four years on the Plains before entering the transfer portal ahead of Auburn’s run in the Clemson Regional.

To the delight of many Auburn softball fans, Godwin announced last Summer that she would return to Auburn to compete in her final eligible season. The decision turned out to be a great one, as she appeared in 47 games, making 30 starts behind the plate in a platoon role with [autotag]Aubrey Lisenby[/autotag].

Senior guard [autotag]Lior Berman[/autotag] is our next year-in-review spotlight player.

Berman’s first three seasons didn’t see the Birmingham native have much of a role, but that all changed this season. Berman saw meaningful minutes all season and was on the floor during some big moments.

Berman averaged 2.2 points and 1.2 rebounds per game this season. His season high came when he scored eight points in Auburn’s 67-65 loss to the Vanderbilt Commodores in February.

Here are some of the best moments from Berman’s season:

He averaged just 3.5 points and 2.1 rebounds per game but he shot an impressive 49.3% from the field and 40.9% from 3-point range. His hustle and defensive effort ensured that he made a bigger impact than the box score indicated and endeared him to Auburn fans.

The best game of his season came in a 72-56 win over Texas Southern when he scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds. He scored in double figures two more times in the season, scoring 12 points in a win against Washington and a loss to Memphis.

Our next year-in-review spotlight player is freshman guard [autotag]Tre Donaldson[/autotag].

Donaldson was at a crossroads out of high school, with both roads leading to possible success. He decided to take the basketball route by signing with Auburn as a member of the 2022 class. He was a four-star guard out of the Florida State University School in Tallahassee, Florida, and was the No. 21 point guard in the nation. As a football recruit, Donaldson was the No. 23 safety in the country and was also considered a four-star.

The good news for Auburn, Donaldson elected to play basketball. He saw significant action in his first season on the Plains by playing in 32 games in a bench role. He averaged 2.5 points per game and connected on 38.4% of his shots from the field.

His best performance of the season was in Auburn’s 74-71 loss to USC in Los Angeles in December, where he scored 12 points and recorded four steals. He reached double figures in points one other time this season, he scored 11 points in Auburn’s first-round win over Iowa.

We started with guard K.D. Johnson and up next is junior point guard [autotag]Wendell Green Jr[/autotag].

Last season was Green’s second season on the Plains after transferring in from Eastern Kentucky. Green stepped into a new role with the Tigers and flourished. He started all 34 games at point guard after mostly coming off the bench last season and took a step forward.

He was named to the All-SEC Second Team after averaging 13.7 points and 4.1 assists per game. He scored in double figures in 23 of Auburn’s games and scored 20 or more seven different times.

He set a new career-high with 24 points against Alabama on Feb. 11 and against Tennessee on March 4. While they lost against Alabama, his performance secured their win over the Vols and clinched their place in the NCAA Tournament.

Ravens 2022 season-in-review: Tight ends

We analyze how the Baltimore Ravens’ tight ends performed in 2022

The Baltimore Ravens have one of the deepest tight-end groups of any team in the NFL, and leveraged that strength to great effect in 2022. Two of their top four receivers by yardage were tight ends, and veteran Mark Andrews out-gained the team’s second-most productive receiver by nearly 400 yards.

Andrews led the way for the tight ends group with 847 yards and five touchdowns in 2022 and was complimented by rookie Isaiah Likely, who managed to catch 36 balls for 373 yards and three touchdowns.

The Ravens’ third option at tight end, Josh Oliver, was substantially less productive than the first and second-string options, catching just 14 passes for 149 yards and two touchdowns. However, he came on extremely strong as a blocker, and had an impressive year overall.

Behind Oliver, the team’s second rookie at the position in Charlie Kolar was the least utilized tight end on the team due to injury, managing to catch four passes for 49 yards in two contests.

It’s important to keep in mind that any receiver’s production is heavily influenced by the play of the quarterback who throws them the ball, and Baltimore had its share of injury adversity under center this season. The absence of Lamar Jackson after his injury in Week 12 surely hampered the production of this group, though third-string quarterback Anthony Brown Jr. seemed to have quite the connection with his tight ends in the regular season finale against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Moving forward, Baltimore isn’t likely to need to make significant investments at the tight end position, especially given that Likely and Kolar will enter their second season with what should be plenty of momentum. Under the guidance of Mark Andrews and John Harbaugh’s coaching staff, the Ravens’ depth at the position should pay dividends for Baltimore for years to come.

Ravens 2022 season-in-review: Quarterbacks

The Ravens got a glimpse of every quarterback on their roster in 2022

Their 2022 season may have ended in a disappointing fashion, but the Baltimore Ravens showed the grit that has come to define their franchise over the course of their grueling 18-game campaign. The team finished at 10-7, and despite glaring issues that plagued them for the majority of the year, they also showed encouraging strides in other areas.

Their loss in the AFC Wild Card round of the playoffs put an end to any hopes for a potential run at a Super Bowl title in 2022, and the absence of starting quarterback Lamar Jackson is the easiest factor to identify as a reason for the defeat. With Jackson under center against the Bengals, the entire complexion of the game would have changed.

The shame of this unfortunate situation is that Jackson was having another excellent year before a late-season injury sidelined him. Backups Tyler Huntley and Anthony Brown Jr. played admirably, but were far less dynamic than Jackson would have been.

Statistically, Jackson was on pace for over 3,000 passing yards and 24 touchdowns before seeing his season cut short, and had produced favorably on the ground. Though he wasn’t likely to be in the conversation to contend for another Most Valuable Player award, Jackson could very well have led the Ravens on a deeper playoff run, especially if he got hot down the stretch.

In his absence, Huntley started six of the Ravens’ remaining seven regular season games and the lone playoff matchup when Jackson went out, passing for just under 1,000 yards and finding receivers in the end zone four times. His deep ball accuracy was an issue and the offense had a tough time managing consistent points with him under center, but he also led the team to a few solid victories along the way.

Brown Jr. threw for 286 yards in his lone regular-season start, but was also intercepted twice in the game and had a fumble that resulted in a touchdown. The undrafted rookie showed flashes, but also areas of his game that need improving.

All in all, this position group will live and die by Jackson’s contributions next season, assuming he returns. Huntley seems to be an adequate backup and Brown Jr. showed some promise in limited action, but Baltimore should jump at any opportunity they can to ensure that neither is forced into a crucial role in 2023.
