Yuge boom! Rutgers wrestling Yaraslau Slavikouski is coming back for one more ride

Yaraslau Slavikouski is returning to Rutgers wrestling.

Yaraslau Slavikouski isn’t going anywhere but will return to Rutgers wrestling.

A transfer portal addition last spring, Slavikouski had a strong first season at Rutgers. He compiled a 22-8 record on his way to All-American honors.

Following the season, Slavikouski entered the transfer portal. His return gives Rutgers a potential top-10 team heading into next season.

Slavikouski joined Rutgers last year from Harvard, instantly filling a pressing need at heavyweight.

In a statement on the Rutgers athletics website, Slavikouski underscored his commitment to the program and his return to the Scarlet Knights.

“I am really excited to use my final year of eligibility here at Rutgers,” Slavikouski said in a statement. “We had an awesome finish to the season, and I look forward to getting back after it with my coaches and the rest of our team.”

He was one of two Rutgers wrestlers to earn All-American honors, joining Dylan Shawver at 133 pounds.

Last year, Rutgers finished the season 12-5 and with a 4-4 record in the Big Ten. The Big Ten is considered the toughest conference in the country for wrestling.

Rutgers wrestling remains ranked No.13 in latest Coaches Poll

Rutgers wrestling doesn’t move in the latest coaches poll.

With another week of the 2023-2024 wrestling season in the books, Rutgers is again ranked in the top 15 in the NWCA Coaches Poll. After a weekend split, Rutgers has held onto the 13th spot. That is a promising sign for the Scarlet Knights, who will host Minnesota, the ninth-ranked team in the country on the 27th.

Last weekend, Rutgers completed their tour of Michigan. They started their trip with a 22-13 win over Michigan State on the 19th. Against the Spartans, they were able to secure their 10th win due to a team effort.

Michael Cetta led the way with his second Big Ten dual win of the season. He got some help from Yaraslau Slavikouski and John Poznanski, who secured the dual with back-to-back wins. Unfortunately, they could not replicate their success against the University of Michigan.

While Rutgers hoped to leave Michigan with two wins, they are still one of the best teams in the Big Ten. Through 12 matches, they have a 10-2 record.

Due to their success, Rutgers has 179 points and only trails Virginia Tech by 10 points. A win over a top-ten team like Minnesota would go a long way as they look to move out of the 13th spot.

Rutgers wrestling moves up one spot in coaches poll

Rutgers wrestling beat a ranked opponent and moved up a spot in the NWCA coaches poll.

Through the first few months of the wrestling season, Rutgers has been one of the best teams in the country. Through 10 matches, the Scarlet Knights have posted an impressive 9-1 record. Due to their impressive start, the Scarlet Knights are slowly inching their way to the top of the coach’s pool.

Their record includes wins over two ranked opponents (UPenn and Indiana).

In the latest rankings released this week, Rutgers had moved up one spot to No. 13 in the NWCA Coaches Poll. The only teams ranked ahead of them in the Big Ten are No,1 Penn State, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska and Iowa. While their success has been impressive to watch, Rutgers still has more to accomplish before the season ends.

Although the Scarlet Knights have gotten impressive performances from various sources, a few stand out. That includes Jackson Turley, who earned Big Ten Co-Wrestler of the Week honors on Tuesday. He is the third Scarlet Knight to win a weekly award this year, joining Yaraslau Slavikouski and John Poznanski.

As the talented trio has struck fear into their opponents, Rutgers has looked almost unstoppable. They have also thrived in conference play, with a 2-0 record.

Although the rankings will change as the season goes on, Rutgers recent bump shows that people are taking notice of their success. They will look to continue to climb the coach’s poll and jump into the ninth spot in the coming weeks with only Virginia Tech, Michigan, and South Dakota State in their way.

Rutgers athletics struggle as November winds down

With winter sports in full swing, Rutgers fans have shifted their focus to basketball and wrestling

With winter sports in full swing, Rutgers fans have shifted their focus to basketball and wrestling. However, after a promising start, the trio has struggled lately. Men’s basketball, women’s basketball, and wrestling have posted a combined 9-7 record.

Of the three, men’s basketball is off to the best start. After losing their season opener, Rutgers has won four straight and has been led by familiar faces in Aundre Hyatt and Clifford Omoruyi. On Monday night, they took on Saint Peter’s with a chance to extend their winning streak to five games.

However, women’s basketball has not had the same luck. They lost their last game to Boise State and fell two games under five hundred. On Wednesday night, they will have the opportunity to get back on track when they take on Delaware State.

Rutgers will be looking to return to its winning ways in December as conference games become more important.

Yaraslau Slavikouski opens up on committing to Rutgers wrestling

Yaraslau Slavikouski details why he committed to Rutgers wrestling in the spring.

Yaraslau Slavikouski was one of the big additions for Rutgers wrestling out of the transfer portal. The former Harvard heavyweight gives the Scarlet Knights a truly elite caliber grappler.

In three years at Harvard, Slavikouski held a record of 64-15 and twice qualified for the NCAA Tournament at 285 pounds. At Harvard, he was the team captain in 2022.

He committed to Rutgers on April 7.

In speaking to ScarletKnights.com, Slavikouski outlined what stood out to him about Rutgers and why the heavyweight ended up committing to the program.

“All the coaches here are great to me in terms of recruiting, talking, and explaining what the program was about. That was the biggest factor in my decision process,” Slavikouski said in the interview with ScarletKnights.com.

“You’re surrounded by people who have been there, who have done that. Who have achieved great things in wrestling. The general expectations for the team is a lot higher. The standard is a lot higher so you’re surrounded by people who are pushing you who also are working harder. I’m excited to spend this time here at Rutgers.”

Slavikouski said that his older brother introduced him to wrestling.

Last season, Slavikouski was one win away in the NCAA Tournament from All-American.status.

He is a member of the Belarus national team. In describing himself, Slavikouski said that despite his size he is light on his feet and quick.

“The ultimate goal is always to be the champions, always to win the matches,” Slavikouski said. “That’s what pushes me forward.”

Rutgers Wrestling adds home dual match with Virginia Tech to 2023-2024 schedule

Rutgers wrestling will battle Virginia Tech this season.

With the start of the wrestling season only months away, Rutgers is adding to their home schedule. On Friday, the Scarlet Knights announced they will welcome Virginia Tech to Jersey Mike’s Arena. The date and time of the dual match will be released at a later date.

Although the full schedule has yet to be released, Virginia Tech marks the fifth home match on the books. Rutgers is also set to face Ohio State, Minnesota, Maryland, and Minnesota. They will face Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, and Purdue on the road.

Once the date is announced, the matchup with Virginia Tech will not be one that Rutgers fans want to miss. The Hokies ranked No. 10 in the final NWCA Coaches Poll and produced five All-Americans at the 2023 NCAA Wrestling Championships last March in Tulsa, Oklahoma. However, it is a match the Scarlet Knights are ready for.

Over the last few months, Rutgers has been busy adding to their roster. The new additions include Jacob Walter, Mitch Moore, and Yaraslau Slavikouski. The talented trio brings plenty of experience and accolades to Piscataway. They will be relied on heavily against a top-ten team like the Hookies.

They are joining a Scarlet Knights team that finished No. 22 in the final 2022-23 NWCA Coaches Poll. It was the 10th final top-25 finish for the Scarlet Knights under head coach Scott Goodale. With a roster full of talent, the 2023-2024 season should be no different.
