The offense took a big step forward against Arizona

The Cleveland Browns got their franchise quarterback back on the field Sunday and unlike the game against the Colts, he looked healthy. It was a bit of a slow start for Deshaun Watson on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals, but he looked more and more comfortable as the game went along behind Wyatt Teller and the rest of the offensive line.

He showed good poise in the pocket and he navigated it well when he was under pressure. It looked like he was processing the defense at a solid level and wasn’t afraid to check it down for cheap yards. Using the threat of his legs to open things up underneath as well at times, it was a solid game for Watson.

Amari Cooper continues to be worth his weight in gold and remains the most consistent threat on the offense. It was a battle for the running game that had its moments but overall it was just average. Here are the top 10 players on offense according to PFF in Cleveland’s 27-0 victory.

The Cleveland Browns upset the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. It was the biggest upset win for the Browns since the team defeated the New Orleans Saints in 2010. The win helped galvanize a downtrodden team, suffering from injuries to offensive leaders. From Amari Cooper to Wyatt Teller, we break down the Browns’ studs and duds from this game.

The Browns started the game fighting, quite literally during an exchange between 49ers’ wide receiver Deebo Samuel and Browns’ safety Juan Thornhill. It’s unsure what was said, but the pregame festivities set the intensity for the game. The game was a hard-hitting, action-packed mud fight. Even the refs were frazzled at times.

The Browns’ defense led the effort against the 49ers. The number one-ranked Browns’ defense knew this was a title fight for the best defense in football. They came out victorious, shutting down a top-3 49ers offense and reigniting a debate around their franchise quarterback. If only every win could inspire an opponent to have an identity crisis. I thought Brock Purdy did a good job of getting rid of the ball quickly.

He avoided Myles Garrett and Dalvin Tomlinson who lived in the backfield all day. The box scores won’t represent that fact. But 49ers offensive tackle Trent Williams called Myles Garrett a future Hall of Famer. That’s high praise coming from the best left tackle since Joe Thomas retired. Who stood out in a disappointing game on offense?

It was a tough night for the offense of the Cleveland Browns, especially quarterback Deshaun Watson in Pittsburgh on Monday. From the start with the pick-six thrown on the first snap to the three lost fumbles and two defensive touchdowns from the Steelers.

Watson looks lost at times on the field unable to read the defense and finds the open wide receiver taking several unnecessary sacks. His footwork and mechanics are off, and he looks like the same player lost on the field after his suspension last season.

Of course, it is hard to rewatch this game after the loss of Nick Chubb whose gruesome injury could spell the end of his time in Cleveland and maybe the NFL. Jerome Ford however showed some potential after stepping in for Chubb including a expolosive run to set up a touchdown.

A dance-off during Browns-Steelers!

While Monday night’s rivalry game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns might’ve been tense, it did give way to a little levity in the fourth quarter.

During a Browns offensive drive, play stopped just long enough for Pittsburgh cornerback Patrick Peterson and Cleveland guard Wyatt Teller to have a little dance-off while the referees debated whether or not Cleveland tight end David Njoku had fumbled on the field.

Seriously! If you weren’t really paying attention, you might’ve missed Peterson and Teller just joking around and dancing with each other to the right of the refs. It was great.

Peterson looked to have done a little dance to signal that the ball was going Pittsburgh’s way, and Teller joined in to lightheartedly make fun of Peterson’s victory dance.

The fumble would go the Steelers’ way, but this moment just shows that, even in the most heated of games, NFL players can still have a little fun and harmlessly mess with each other.

Now we just need to get some judges in here to score the respective dances to see who won the dance-off.

Which offensive players stood out the most to PFF?

In the poor conditions, the offense of the Cleveland Browns was a bit sloppy from time to time against the Bengals on Sunday. Nick Chubb continued to be mister consistent and reliable as he rushed for over 100 yards as the most consistent source of offense. Quarterback Deshaun Watson had some bad throws early in the game but used his legs to make up for it.

The interior of the offensive line was pretty consistent and impressive as both guards Joel Bitonio and Wyatt Teller played really well. Before his injury, Jack Conklin was playing pretty well though Jedrick Wills struggled in both facets of the game.

Dawand Jones came in and had some nice snaps in his pass protection though his run blocking wasn’t very good at all which is surprising for a guy of his size. Let’s take a look at the ten best offensive players for the Browns on Sunday according to PFF.

The Cleveland Browns hold a 10-0 lead over the Cincinnati Bengals, and a big part of that is due to the success of running back Nick Chubb on the ground. Rushing for 57 yards on 10 carries in the first half, he was sprung free on his biggest run on the day thanks to right guard Wyatt Teller as he threw a big block on the play.

Teller did more than just spring him free as he can be seen carrying his man 25 yards down the field on the play, finishing it with a pancake at the end of the run. When he is healthy, Teller is one of the meanest players in the entire NFL. That is why he has been to multiple Pro Bowls in his NFL career since coming over to Cleveland by way of the Buffalo Bills.

Who impressed PFF the most in Saturday’s preseason finale

The offensive starters for the Cleveland Browns, minus Joel Bitonio and Nick Chubb, got the most playing time they have had all preseason in the finale on Saturday. There were some growing pains out the gate with Jordan Wilkins fumbling twice but overall they were encouraging.

They were able to move the ball both on the ground and threw the air with Deshaun Watson making some productive throws after extending the play with his legs. A good portion of the top-graded players on offense continue to be on the offensive line as the team will have tough decisions to make in the coming days.

Who showed up the most on Friday night?

Though the first-team offense of the Cleveland Browns didn’t score on their lone drive of the game they did march right down the field before stalling inside the five-yard line. Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson looked comfortable and confident running the offense something he did not do in the final six games last year.

Rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson continued his impressive preseason and Kellen Mond have some nice plays late in the game. Elijah Moore showed his versatility by lining up in the backfield and producing from that spot while camp standout Austin Watkins continued to shine. Of all the players who factor heavily into a football team’s success, guards and centers are often the most overlooked. Unless you’re working with advanced metrics, there are no statistics to speak of, and unless you have access to overhead and (especially) end zone footage, it’s hard to discern what these guys are doing that is so important.

But those in the know, know better. Browns land 6 players on Pro Football Network’s top 100 list entering 2023 season

The Browns received a ton of recognition from Pro Football Network’s Dalton Miller

The Cleveland Browns have officially kicked off training camp with rookies and quarterbacks already in the building. They will begin practicing on July 22 in Greenbriar, West Virginia. This also means the rankings pieces and others will take a back seat as actual football content will be returning for our consumption.

However, in an NFL top-100 piece completed by Pro Football Network’s Dalton Miller (before we move off of rankings pieces), the Browns saw six of their players make an appearance. Here are the six players, and here is what Miller had to say about them.
