Remembering Jordan Poole’s top-10 performances with the Warriors

Before he returns to San Francisco’s Chase Center with the Wizards, here’s a look back at some of Jordan Poole’s top performances with the Warriors.

While his time in the Bay Area will likely be overshadowed by his preseason incident with Draymond Green, Jordan Poole’s stint with the Golden State Warriors featured a run to a championship and an impressive climb from the G League to a focal point in Steve Kerr’s rotation.

Poole was selected in the first round of the 2019 NBA draft out of Michigan by Bob Myers and the Warriors. Poole struggled as a rookie and early as a sophomore, leading to a trip to the G League. However, after a stop in Santa Clara, Poole blossomed.

The former Wolverine turned into a dangerous scorer alongside Steph Curry and Klay Thompson in Golden State’s backcourt, contributing heavily during the Warriors’ run to a championship in 2022.

During the 2023 offseason, Poole was traded to the Washington Wizards in a package that sent veteran point guard Chris Paul to Golden State. During his four-year stint in the Bay Area, Poole averaged 15.8 points on 42.1% shooting from the field to go along with 3.4 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game.

On Friday, Poole will make his return to San Francisco’s Chase Center when the Warriors host the Wizards. Before Poole suits up against his former team, here’s a look at some of his top performances with the Warriors from the regular season.

Klay Thompson out for Warriors preseason opener vs. Wizards in Japan

Klay Thompson won’t make his preseason debut against the Wizards on Friday in Japan.

In their preseason opener, the Golden State Warriors will be without one of their stars in the backcourt against the Washington Wizards on Friday morning in Japan.

Klay Thompson won’t make his preseason debut against the Wizards on Friday at Saitama Super Arena. The Warriors are being cautious with Thompson early in the preseason, ruling him out for both contests against the Wizards in Japan. Without Thompson, Jordan Poole will enter the starting lineup on Friday.

With Thompson out, Moses Moody, Donte DiVincenzo, Quinndary Weatherspoon and rookie Ryan Rollins could see an extended role in the backcourt against the Wizards on Friday morning.

After missing two seasons due to a pair of serious injuries, Thompson made his long-awaited return to the court in Jan. of last season. The veteran sharpshooter played 32 games on the way to the Warriors’ run to a title, averaging 20.4 points on 42.9% shooting from the field and 38.5% shooting from deep during the 2021-22 campaign.

Following Golden State’s pair of contests in Japan against the Wizards, the Warriors will return to the Bay Area for three preseason games at Chase Center in San Francisco.

The Warriors will then open the season on ring night at Chase Center against the Los Angeles Lakers on Oct. 18.

NBA Twitter reacts to Warriors dropping another road loss vs. Wizards

With a loss to the Wizards, the Warriors have dropped five of their last six games. Here’s a look at what fans and analysts were saying on Twitter on Sunday.

Despite not having players like Bradley Beal and Kyle Kuzma, the Washington Wizards landed an opening haymaker on the Golden State Warriors during Sunday afternoon’s tilt in the nation’s capital.

Red-hot 3-point shooting helped the Wizards surge to an early lead that stretched out all the way to an 18 point advantage. While the Warriors were able to cut the Wizards’ lead down to eight by halftime, it wasn’t enough to build a comeback.

The Warriors had no answer for Corey Kispert on Sunday. On the way to scoring 25 points, the Gonzaga product buried six triples on nine attempts from beyond the arc. As a team, the Wizards hit 16 3-pointers on 28 attempts from long distance.

On the other end of the floor, the Warriors went cold from deep, shooting 8-of-33 on 3-point attempts. With five made 3-pointers, Klay Thompson was the only player on the Warriors to notch more than one triple on Sunday.

Despite scoring a game-high 26 points, Jordan Poole struggled to find his shot from beyond the arc. The 22-year-old guard shot just 1-of-10 from deep against the Wizards. Sunday was the first time in five games Poole hasn’t recorded multiple 3 -pointers.

With Sunday’s 123-115 loss, the Warriors have now dropped five of their last six games. The Warriors won’t have much time to think about their loss to the Wizards with a matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies slated for Monday.

Following Golden State’s loss on the road, the NBA Twitter community chimed in on social media. Here’s a look at what fans and analysts were saying on Sunday afternoon.

3 things to know: Warriors squander late lead vs. Wizards to end road trip with bitter loss, 118-114

After an early comeback, the Warriors failed to close the door on Bradley Beal and the Wizards in a discouraging loss to end the road trip.

After an early rally led the second unit to erase a 19 point deficit in the first half, the Golden State Warriors looked like they were headed towards another victory on the road against the Washington Wizards.

A Jordan Poole triple gave the Warriors an 11-point lead with under seven minutes remaining in the contest. However, the Warriors failed to close the door on Bradley Beal and Russell Westbrook.

Led by their dynamic backcourt duo, Washington went on a run to take control of the contest. With under three minutes remaining, Beal dropped a haymaker and-1 layup that resulted in Draymond Green fouling out of the game. Following Beal’s successful old-fashion three-point play, the Wizards trailed by only one point.

Without Green on the floor, Golden State’s defense had no answer for Washington’s attack, squandering away the lead and the game in the final minutes, 118-114.

Before the Warriors return to Chase Center after a five-game road swing, here are three things to know from Wednesday’s contest.

Steph Curry’s streak snapped

After becoming the only player at age 33 or older to rip off 11 consecutive games with 30 or more points, Steph Curry’s scorching streak came to a close against the Wizards.

With Washington’s defense swarming, Curry went cold, tallying only 18 points on 7-of-25 shooting from the floor in 36 minutes. Coming off a 10 triple performance against the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday, Curry uncharacteristically struggled from beyond the arc, hitting only two jumpers from deep on 14 attempts.

Curry will have the chance to bounce back on Friday at Chase Center in a battle with fellow Most Valuable Player contender Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets.

Kelly Oubre Jr.

In his second game since returning from injury, Kelly Oubre Jr. provided the spark Golden State needed off the bench. Leading the Warriors’ early comeback, Oubre Jr. tallied a team-high 24 points on 8-of-17 shooting from the floor with nine boards and two blocks in 37 minutes off the bench.

If Steve Kerr is thinking about making another change to his rotation, Oubre Jr.’s effort against the Wizards could be the performance to catapult him back into the starting lineup when the Warriors return to Chase Center.

Jordan Poole

While Oubre Jr. led Golden State’s second unit, Jordan Poole followed closely behind. Without Damion Lee due to a foot injury, the second-year guard stepped up, notching 22 points on 7-of-16 shooting from the floor in 25 minutes against the Wizards.

As Curry went cold from long distance, Poole did his best Splash Brothers impersonation, hitting six 3-pointers on 10 attempts from outside. Poole has now registered double-figures in scoring off the bench in five of his last seven contests for the Warriors, including two performances with 20 or more points.

Warriors at Wizards: Live stream, how to watch, TV channel, rookie watch, previous result, start time on April 21

Riding a 49 point effort in a victory over the Sixers, Steph Curry will meet Bradley Beal’s Wizards on Wednesday. Here are the details.

Following an epic 49 point effort to lead the Golden State Warriors past the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday, Steph Curry will cap off a red-hot road swing with a battle against Bradley Beal and the Washington Wizards on Wednesday evening.

Wednesday’s contest in the nation’s capital will feature a fierce tilt between the league’s top scorers. Riding an 11 game streak with 32 or more points, Curry is leading the NBA with 31.4 points per contest. Beal trails Curry for second with 31.1 points per game.

Earlier in the month, Beal drilled an improbable four-point play in the final seconds to hand the Warriors a heartbreaking three-point loss, 110-107. Winners of five of their last six games, the Warriors will have a chance at redemption on Wednesday.

Before the Warriors meet the Wizards, here are all the details you need to know about Wednesday’s contest.

3 things to know: Wizards’ Bradley Beal drills game-winning 4-point play to end Warriors’ meltdown loss, 110-107

Despite leading with seconds remaining, Wizards guard Bradley Beal hit a game-winning four-point play to hand the Warriors a meltdown loss, 110-107.

Following back-to-back buckets from Steph Curry, the Golden State Warriors held a three-point lead with 19 seconds remaining against the Washington Wizards. All signs pointed towards the Warriors, sealing their second straight victory. However, a pair of improbable mistakes and a heroic jumper changed everything.

Trailing by three, Bradley Beal drilled a triple after a Washington offensive rebound with six seconds remaining. While pulling up from deep, Andrew Wiggins surprisingly fouled the Washington sharpshooter, sending Beal to the free-throw line with a chance to steal the lead with a four-point play.

Despite Wiggins’ colossal mistake, the Warriors had a final chance to tie or win the game on the last possession. After the inbounds pass, Draymond Green found Damion Lee cutting to the basket. Yet, instead of shooting the ball at the rim, Lee decided to pass, resulting in an ugly turnover to end the game, 110-107.

The Warriors won’t have much time to dwell on their nightmare loss to the Wizards, with the Houston Rockets slated to arrive at Chase Center on Saturday for the second leg of a home back-to-back.

30 for 30

Curry led the Warriors with a game-high 32 points on 11-of-25 shooting from the floor with six boards, five assists and two steals in 35 minutes against the Wizards.

Curry’s effort against the Wizards was his fifth consecutive performance of tallying at least 32 or more points. During his recent five-game stretch, the seven-time All-Star is averaging 35.6 points on 50.9% shooting from the floor and 40.7% from beyond the arc.

Along with another 32 point night, Curry passed Hall of Famer Magic Johnson on the NBA’s all-time scoring list for 81st place overall.

Washington’s Bigs

While most of the attention was in the backcourt with Beal, Westbrook and Curry, the Wizards frontcourt dominated on Friday night at Chase Center. The Warriors had no answers for Washington’s tandem of Alex Len and Robin Lopez.

Len and Lopez combined for 35 points and 13 rebounds against the Warriors. Lopez led the Wizards off the bench with 20 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the floor with eight boards and two assists.

James Wiseman

While James Wiseman struggled on defense, the rookie center helped Golden State on the offensive end of the floor. The second overall pick from the 2020 draft tallied 18 points on an efficient 9-of-11 shooting from the floor with six boards and an assist in 23 minutes.

After struggling during Golden State’s recent three-game road swing, Wiseman has bounced back with back-to-back double-figure scoring efforts.
