Washington Wizards at Indiana Pacers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Washington Wizards at Indiana Pacers odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Indiana Pacers welcome the Washington Wizards to Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Wednesday for the 2023-24 season opener. Tip is set for 7 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Wizards vs. Pacers odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting of 2023; teams split 4 games last season with both teams going 2-2 against the spread (ATS).

Washington ended last season 35-47 while going 37-41-4 ATS. Its major offseason departure of G Bradley Beal in a 3-team trade with the Pacers and Suns landed them G Chris Paul, who they traded to the Warriors for G Jordan Poole among other players, picks, and cash considerations. While Beal leaving is a blow to the team, the addition of Poole adds championship experience.

Indiana also finished last season with a 35-47 record while going 42-40 ATS. It is led by G Tyrese Haliburton who averaged 20.7 points per game (PPG) and 10.4 assists per game (APG) last season.

Wizards at Pacers picks and predictions

Prediction

Pacers 113, Wizards 104

Moneyline

PASS.

With -225 odds, there is not much profit to be made. The Pacers possess a lot of firepower in Haliburton, G Buddy Hield, and big man C Myles Turner. Facing a young Wizards team whose chemistry is unknown, expect the Pacers to come out on top.

Against the spread

LEAN PACERS -5.5 (-105).

While 5.5 points leaves a lot of room for the Wizards to beat the spread, the Pacers had a positive ATS record last season despite their losing record. The Wizards had an offensive rating that put them 22nd of 30 teams and a defensive rating that put them 21st last season. They face a tough battle to start the season on the road and whether or not they can perform under pressure without Beal is yet to be seen.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 235.5 (-115).

The Pacers ranked 5th in pace last season, but the Wizards ranked 19th in the category. You can expect Poole and G Kyle Kuzma (21.2 PPG last season) to score, but beyond them there are not many others to help carry the load. Being the 1st game of the season, expect sloppy play that will inhibit the Over from hitting.

On Wednesday The Wizards lost 115-11 at the Chicago Bulls Wednesday. C Kristaps Porzingis led the Wizards in scoring with 28 points with G Bradley Beal sidelined, but the team as a whole only shot 29.0% from 3-point range while the Bulls shot 43.5%.

Wizards at Pacers picks and predictions

Prediction

Pacers 109, Wizards 96

Moneyline

The Pacers’ Achilles heel is the first quarter. They are last in the league in points (25.1) and spend the rest of the game in catch-up mode.

Lucky for Indiana, the Wizards are also not great at the start of each game. Washington ranks 14th in 1st-quarter points scored (28.9) and 18th in 1st-quarter points allowed (29.4).

The moneyline for the game is too chalky but you may want to consider WIZARDS 1st QUARTER +1.5 (-120).

Against the spread

The Pacers are 7-4 ATS at home, while the Wizards are 5-5-2 ATS on the road.

Indiana is 5-1 ATS in its last 6 home games against teams with a losing road record and 6-2 ATS in its last 8 games following a straight-up loss.

LEAN PACERS -5.5 (-105).

Over/Under

The Under is 4-1-1 in Wizards last 6 when facing an above .500% team. On top of that Indiana has hit the Under in 7 of its last 9 games after allowing 100 or more points in their last game.

BET UNDER 232.5 (-110).

Washington Wizards at Indiana Pacers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Washington Wizards at Indiana Pacers odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Washington Wizards start their season at Gainbridge FieldHouse to face the Indiana Pacers. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Wizards vs. Pacers odds, and our expert NBA picks and predictions.

The Wizards began last season 10-3 before immediately imploding. In February, they were sellers at the trade deadline, but did acquire F Kristaps Porzingis. Wizards fans didn’t really get to see how G Bradley Beal would play with Porzingis due to injuries. Will the Wizards enjoy the same good fortune that last season started with? Or how it ended?

The Pacers are rebuilding and possibly tanking even further for the draft. They traded away F Domantas Sabonis to the Kings for G Tyrese Haliburton, who should be their main rebuilding piece. The Pacers ended their season on a 10-game losing streak, but they still have some yet-to-be-traded pieces from their playoff years that improve this roster.

Wizards at Pacers picks and predictions

Prediction

Pacers 118, Wizards 111

Moneyline

Last season the Wizards won 58.6% of their games as the favorite, which was in the bottom half of the NBA. As an away favorite they only won half their games, making this game a toss-up before we can see how these teams play together.

Its best to AVOID, even though the spread is only a point and a half.

Against the spread

In their head-to-head matchups, the Pacers have an edge at home. The Wizards are 0-5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings in Indiana.

The Pacers may be rebuilding but they still have C Myles Turner and G Buddy Hield. Both players are on the trading block because of their value and Indiana’s motivation to bottom-out this year, but until they get moved they make the Pacers a much better team.

BET PACERS +1.5 (-105)

Over/Under

The 226.5 total  is a large number, but the trends point to a high-scoring game. As home underdogs the Pacers last season were 14-5 to the Over. And in the last 7 games between the Wizards and Pacers the Over has hit 6 times.

LEAN OVER 226.5 (-112)

Washington Wizards at Indiana Pacers odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Monday’s Washington Wizards at Indiana Pacers odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Washington Wizards (14-10) stop by Gainbridge Fieldhouse Monday for a 7 p.m. ET tip-off against the Indiana Pacers (9-16). Below, we look at the Wizards vs. Pacers odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions, and bets.

Washington has lost three of its last four (1-3 ATS) including back-to-back games against the Cleveland Cavaliers Friday and the Toronto Raptors Sunday. The Wizards are 12-12 ATS and 10-14 O/U with the 19th-best net rating.

Indiana enters on a four-game losing skid (1-3 ATS) with losses to the Milwaukee Bucks, Minnesota Timberwolves, Atlanta Hawks and Miami Heat. The Pacers are 12-13 ATS and 11-14 O/U with the 14th-best net rating.

The Wizards outdueled the Pacers 135-134 in overtime Oct. 22. Washington won three of the “four factors” in that game and was without All-Star guard Bradley Beal.

Wizards at Pacers odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Pacers 106, Wizards 102

Money line

PASS because I only “lean” towards Washington covering the spread and cannot fully endorse a Wizards (+165) wager. Something about this game, or more specifically these odds, is throwing me off. I’d understand Indiana’s money line getting as high as -175 but the current price is too expensive.

I’d assume the oddsmakers are saying this is a “scheduled loss” for the Wizards who just played Sunday and this will be their fifth game in the last seven days. Washington is 2-3 overall when playing with a rest disadvantage with a minus-6.0 margin of victory.

Against the spread

“LEAN” to the WIZARDS +5.5 (-120) because a majority of the market is backing the road underdog in this game according to the Yahoo! Sports app, and I hate following the herd in sports betting.

However, the Wizards outplayed the Pacers in their first meeting of the season without Beal. That was also just the second game of the season for Washington who has a first-year head coach and was incorporating a bunch of new players acquired in the Russell Westbrook trade this offseason.

The Wizards have a much higher effective field goal shooting differential than the Pacers and Washington has a strength-on-weakness edge over Indiana. For instance, the Wizards are eighth in offensive FT/FGA rate and the Pacers are 24th in defensive FT/FGA rate.

Washington is also much better in tight games. The Wizards are 11-1 overall in clutch situations with the fourth-best net rating (plus-20.9) while the Pacers are 3-12 overall with the 26th-best net rating (plus-22.0). “Clutch” is defined by games within a 5-point margin with five minutes remaining.

I like Washington to pick up the victory if this game is close and could look for some fourth-quarter in-game wagers to make. However, preflop, the WIZARDS +5.5 (-120) are getting too many points to pass up.

Over/Under

LEAN” to the UNDER 210.5 (-115) because the market is barreling into the Over according to the Yahoo! Sports App since the Over has cashed in five straight Wizards-Pacers meetings. The lowest-scoring Wizards-Pacers contest over that five-game span was a combined 257 points.

Oddsmakers pricing this total at 210.5 and moving it when the market comes in heavy on the Over tells me the value is on the UNDER 210.5 (-115). Stylistically, the Under makes more sense in a Wizards-Pacers game.

Both teams play at a below-average pace and both teams have a better defensive eFG% than offensive. Each team also runs a top-six volume of half-court offense and bottom-seven volume of transition basketball.

The UNDER 210.5 (-115) is my preferred play in the Wizards-Pacers game because it’s even fishier than the Wizards +5.5 (-115).

Washington Wizards at Indiana Pacers odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Washington Wizards at Indiana Pacers NBA odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Washington Wizards (31-36) drop by Bankers Life Fieldhouse Saturday for a 7 p.m. ET game with the host Indiana Pacers (31-35). Below, we analyze the Wizards-Pacers odds and lines, with NBA picks and predictions.

Washington has alternated wins and losses over its last five games with the latest being a 131-129 overtime win over the Toronto Raptors Thursday. The Wizards are 8-1-1 against the spread in their last 10 games.

Indiana upset the Atlanta Hawks 133-126 as a 6-point home underdog Thursday but is just 2-4 straight up and against the spread across the last six games.

The Pacers were crushed 154-141 by the Wizards earlier this week and are trying to avoid the three-game season sweep by Washington.

Wizards at Pacers: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Wizards 131, Pacers 119

Money line (ML)

PASS with a slight “lean” to the Wizards (-160) since Washington’s late-game turnovers can cost them an ATS win (like in the previous game with Toronto).

Also, I’d entertain including Washington’s money line in a parlay with another similarly priced favorite for a plus-money payout.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

“LEAN” to the WIZARDS -3.5 (-110) for three-fourths of a unit since these teams are heading in opposite directions with Washington playing far better.

This is probably a play-in preview unless the Wizards can overtake the banged-up Charlotte Hornets for eighth in the East, but Washington has outplayed Indiana in the first two meetings and is playing better currently.

The Wizards had their way with the Pacers the other night and, aside from the obvious standouts (SG Bradley Beal and PG Russell Westbrook), PF Rui Hachimura abused Indiana’s soft interior defense.

Hachimura had 27 points on 12-for-19 shooting and there’s no reason to think that doesn’t continue Saturday because Hachimura’s mid-range game is impressive and the Pacers give up the most points in the paint per game.

Indiana also gives up the most second-chance points per game and Washington is scoring the most second-chance points per game over the last 10 games.

Over/Under (O/U)

This total (248.5) is out of my comfort zone and maybe this feeling costs me money in the long run but, in this spot, I’ll just PASS.

There’s nothing Indiana’s defense can do to stop Washington and the Wizards have gone whole weeks without playing defense so the Under is a no-go.
