Best photos from Wisconsin’s blowout loss to Iowa in Week 10

The Wisconsin Badgers lost to Iowa 42-10 on the road Saturday afternoon in Iowa City, Iowa. The loss was the team’s second in a row and they fell to 5-4 on the year and 3-3 in Big Ten play.

It was a truly uninspiring performance from Wisconsin. The Badgers were out-gained 422-261 in total, with the Hawkeyes compiling 330 rushing yards in the game. Running back Kaleb Johnson churned out 135 yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries. Quarterback Brendan Sullivan didn’t have to do too much through the air, completing seven of 10 passes for 93 yards and a touchdown while also adding 58 rushing yards and a touchdown.

For the Badgers, quarterback Braedyn Locke had an underwhelming performance, completing 15 of 29 passes for 137 yards and a touchdown while throwing two interceptions. Running back Tawee Walker was limited to under 100 yards for the second week in a row, producing just 52 yards on 16 carries in the loss.

Wisconsin will be idle in Week 11 before welcoming the No. 1 Oregon Ducks to Camp Randall Stadium on Nov. 16. In the meantime, here are the photos that tell the story of  Wisconsin’s crushing defeat in Iowa City:

Five takeaways from Wisconsin’s 42-10 loss to Iowa in Week 10

Five takeaways from Wisconsin’s 42-10 loss to Iowa in Week 10

The Wisconsin Badgers fell to the Iowa Hawkeyes 42-10 on the road in Iowa City, Iowa, on Saturday night. The Badgers were truly outmatched from start to finish.

In terms of takeaways, there are plenty of reasons for Wisconsin fans to be disappointed in the performance and few reasons to feel positive heading into the team’s upcoming bye week.

Here are the five most notable takeaways from the game, four bad and one good:

The BAD

  • The Hawkeyes compiled 329 rushing yards in the victory, their highest output on the ground over nine games in 2024. Additionally, it was the most rushing yards that Wisconsin has surrendered this season
  • Wisconsin quarterback Braedyn Locke threw two interceptions for the second time in six starts this season and he has now tossed eight INTs overall in 2024
  • The 42 points allowed marked the fourth time in 98 all-time meetings that Wisconsin gave up 40-plus points to Iowa — the first since 1975.
  • The loss was Wisconsin’s third in a row against Iowa, their longest losing streak against the Hawkeyes since they lost four straight from 2002-2005

The GOOD

  • Freshman running back Darrion Dupree turned seven carries into 52 yards while also adding two receptions for 17 yards. With Tawee Walker operating in his final year of eligibility, Dupree has shown glimpses of being a suitable replacement in 2025

Wisconsin is off in Week 11 and they’ll look to regroup before their steepest challenge of the year, hosting No. 1 Oregon at Camp Randall Stadium on Nov. 16.

Iowa RB on the cusp of a program record after 42-10 win over Wisconsin

The Wisconsin Badgers (5-4, 3-3 in Big Ten) lost to the Iowa Hawkeyes (6-3, 4-2 Big Ten) 42-10 on the road Saturday night and in the process, Hawkeyes running back Kaleb Johnson closed in on a program record.

In the contest, Johnson compiled 135 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries. The three touchdowns raised his season total to 19 rushing scores, which is just one behind Shonn Greene’s program record 20 touchdowns in 2008. Johnson had a 16-yard score in the second quarter, a nine-yard TD in the third quarter and a two-yard touchdown in the fourth.

Johnson still has three more regular season contests and a bowl game to break the record, which will likely come in the next week or two considering he’s averaging over two touchdowns per game through nine contests in 2024.

His effort was just a part of what was a 329-yard effort on the ground for the Hawkeyes against the Badgers. It was their highest total amount of rushing yards in a single game this season and the most yards Wisconsin has given up on the ground in 2024 as well.

RECAP: Wisconsin crushed in Iowa City, lose to Hawkeyes 42-10

The Iowa Hawkeyes delivered a dominant 42-10 win over the Wisconsin Badgers on Saturday night at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City, Iowa.

The Badgers defense forced a punt on Iowa’s opening possession. They followed that with a 12-play, 59-yard drive that ended with a 38-yard Nathanial Vakos field goal. That 3-0 advantage was the only lead Wisconsin would hold in the contest.

Iowa went on to miss a 56-yard field goal on its next drive, continuing to hand momentum to Wisconsin. But that momentum quickly turned when Badgers quarterback Braedyn Locke threw the first of two interceptions.

Quarterback Brendan Sullivan and running back Kaleb Johnson finished off back-to-back drives with rushing touchdowns as Iowa took a 14-3 lead into halftime.

The Hawkeyes kept the momentum going following the break, scoring touchdowns on all four of their possessions in the second half — two by RB Kaleb Johnson.

Braedyn Locke and C.J. Williams finally connected for a 14-yard score with 14:12 in the fourth quarter, Wisconsin’s first touchdown of the evening. That narrowed the margin to 28-10, which was the closest Wisconsin would get down the stretch.

Iowa out-gained Wisconsin 422-261 in total, churning out an eye-popping 329 rushing yards in the contest. Running back Kaleb Johnson turned 24 carries into 135 yards and three touchdowns, while fellow backs Kamari Moulton and Jaziun Patterson combined for 130 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries. Additionally, quarterback Brendan Sullivan completed seven of 10 passes for 93 yards and a touchdown while also adding 58 yards and a score on the ground.

For Wisconsin, quarterback Braedyn Locke completed 15 of 29 passes for 137 yards and a touchdown while throwing two interceptions in the loss. He has now thrown eight picks in six starts in 2024. Running back Tawee Walker was limited to just 52 yards on 16 carries while backfield mate Darrion Dupree had 52 yards on seven totes.

It was just the fourth time ever that Wisconsin allowed 40-plus points to Iowa — the first since 1975.

The Hawkeyes improved to 6-3 on the season and 4-2 in Big Ten play with the victory. Wisconsin, on the other hand, drops to 5-4 on the season and 3-3 in conference play.

The Badgers will be idle in Week 11 before they’ll host No. 1 Oregon at Camp Randall Stadium on Nov. 16.

Wisconsin Badgers vs. Iowa Hawkeyes: Series history, all-time record

Wisconsin Badgers vs. Iowa Hawkeyes: Series history, all-time record

The Wisconsin Badgers (5-3, 3-2 Big Ten) travel to face the Iowa Hawkeyes (5-3, 3-2 Big Ten) in Iowa City, Iowa on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET, 6:30 p.m. CT. It will be the 98th all-time meeting between the two programs, who will go to battle for the Heartland Trophy.

The Badgers own a slight all-time advantage, going 49-46-2 against the Hawkeyes. That being said, Wisconsin has dropped back-to-back matchups against Iowa for the first time since 2008-2009.

The Hawkeyes defeated the Badgers at Camp Randall Stadium 15-6 in 2023, a game in which Braedyn Locke had to replace starting quarterback Tanner Mordecai after Mordecai suffered a broken hand.

Iowa was forced to go to their backup quarterback Brendan Sullivan in Week 9 against Northwestern, defeating the Wildcats 40-14. Starter Cade McNamara has been ruled out for Week 10 against the Badgers, so Sullivan will draw another start. Formerly a member of the Wildcats, Sullivan transferred to Iowa prior to this season, but he has faced Wisconsin in the past, completing 11 of 17 passes for 114 yards and a touchdown in a 42-7 loss to the Badgers in 2022.

Wisconsin saw its three-game win streak come to an end in Week 9, falling to No. 3 Penn State at home 28-13. Tawee Walker was limited to just 59 rushing yards on 22 carries, his lowest total since becoming the team’s primary option in the backfield. The Badgers are now 3-2 in the Big Ten so far this season, currently tied for fourth place with five teams in the conference, including Iowa.

Badgers couldn’t get it done versus Iowa

The Badgers football team hosted Iowa at Camp Randall for a conference matchup on Saturday in Madison, losing to the Hawkeyes 15-6. Iowa got out to a 7-0 lead on an 82-yard rushing touchdown by Leshon Williams and never looked back.

Wisconsin lost their starting quarterback Tanner Mordecai (broken throwing hand) in the second quarter and backup Braedyn Locke was thrust into the game.

Although he hung tough, Locke did lose a fumble and throw an interception in the second half when the Badgers were trying to make a comeback. Overall, what did Wisconsin in was the impressive play of the aforementioned Williams (172 rushing yards) and Iowa’s punter Tory Taylor who averaged 50.6 yards per punt in the Hawkeyes’ win.

Here are some of the best pictures from the game:
