The No. 2 Nebraska Volleyball team is preparing to host No. 1 Wisconsin this weekend.

The No. 2 Nebraska Volleyball team is preparing to host No. 1 Wisconsin this weekend. The Saturday night match is one of the biggest volleyball events during the 2023 season.

When asked about the importance of the game, head coach John Cook told the press they’ve already played in the biggest match, not just this year but in the long and storied history of the sports.

“Everyone is talking about how big of a match this is. I said ‘You guys have already played the biggest match in the history of volleyball.”

Cook is of course speaking about Nebraska’s record setting match that took place at Memorial Stadium earlier this year. The Huskers defeated Omaha back in August 31 in straight sets in front of a crowd of 92,003.

That crowd surpassed the world-record for attendance for any women’s sporting event. The Huskers will enter the match with a record of 18-0Β  overall and 9-0 in the Big Ten.

Wisconsin also holds an 18-0 overall mark with a 9-0 record in the conference.Β The No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the country will play this Saturday at 7:00 p.m. in Lincoln and can be seen on the Big Ten Network.

Badgers Volleyball remains undefeated, extends historic streak

Badgers stay perfect at home versus Big Ten foe

The #1 ranked Wisconsin women’s volleyball team improved to 18-0 on Wednesday, defeating Ohio State 3-0 at home while extending their consecutive sets won streak to 30 straight.

Coming into the match, the program’s all-time longest set winning streak sat at 33 in a row (Sept. 6 – Sept. 29, 200) , which they’re still short of, but they did break their previous record of 26 straight versus Big Ten opponents, reaching 27 sets in a row in conference play to start the season.

They’ll look to match their all-time record when they take on #2 ranked Nebraska (18-0) on the road Saturday at 7PM in Lincoln, though that will be quite the tall task.

The Badgers are in the top three of the opening poll

The Badgers’ women’s volleyball team is gearing up for their European tour from June 2-14. Kelly Sheffield and his squad will play matches and go sightseeing in Turkey, Slovenia, Italy and Switzerland.

Libero Gulce Guctekin is a native of Turkey, and she was giving her teammates some lessons on how to speak her primary language. She operated as their cultural expert ahead of their trip.

The volleyball team lost to Pittsburgh in the quarterfinals of last season’s NCAA Tournament, falling two wins short of a chance to defend their 2021 national championship.

With many of the regulars, such as Izzy Ashburn and Devyn Robinson, back this season, they should be right at the top of the national rankings again in 2023.

Nebraska volleyball is doing something Wisconsin should do

Nebraska volleyball is doing something Wisconsin should do

Nebraska volleyball has long been a Big Ten powerhouse, and the Huskers deserve credit for one of the coolest initiatives the sport has seen.

This year was full of attendance records, with the latest being set by Wisconsin volleyball during its match at the Kohl Center.

Nebraska is set to shatter that on Aug. 30, 2023. The Huskers will be playing a match outdoors at Memorial Stadium, the Nebraska football team’s home stadium. The Huskers will take on Omaha in an exhibition matchup.

Could you imagine Wisconsin volleyball getting to play a game at Camp Randall stadium in front of 80,000 fans? If there is any way Wisconsin can pull this off, it needs to. The Kohl Center match was a good start, but this would be legendary.

Aug. 30 will be an awesome day for the sport:
