Big shock, but this is a mismatch.
Notre Dame and Ohio State’s quarterbacks are about as big a mismatch as you can imagine, at least right now. [autotag]Tyler Buchner[/autotag] has been named the Irish’s starter to begin the season, and it won’t be easy to replace all the production left by [autotag]Jack Coan[/autotag]. However, one thing Buchner can do that Coan couldn’t is run with the ball, so that should allow [autotag]Tommy Rees[/autotag] to be a little more creative with his play-calling. How that will work against a team as talented as the Buckeyes is anyone’s guess.
C.J. Stroud was a major reason the Buckeyes had the nation’s top offense last year. He might be even better this year as he is the preseason pick among College Wire editors to win the Heisman Trophy. Talk about a challenge for the defensive-minded [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] in his first regular-season game as coach. That said, Stroud doesn’t run very well, so forcing him to do that by taking away his passing lanes and providing plentiful cover of his receivers will be key.
