What the experts are predicting: Notre Dame at Syracuse

Can the Irish survive the Dome?

Finally, there is enough interest in Notre Dame that people are predicting one of its games again. Still, it’s worth wondering if it would be happening this week were Syracuse not ranked. You have to hate that we’re having this discussion, but alas.

Let’s look at what some college football experts, including fellow College Wire sites, are predicting for this game:

What the experts are predicting: Notre Dame vs. Stanford

What’s your prediction?

Notre Dame and Stanford have become constants on each other’s schedules. No, the rivalry isn’t nearly as historic as some of the others involving the programs, but fans look forward to it all the same. Hopefully, you’re one of them.

What the experts are predicting: Notre Dame vs. BYU

Looks like not many people have faith in the Irish.

After a week off, Notre Dame is back in action for its annual Shamrock Series game, which is in Las Vegas this year. BYU is the school that gets to face the Irish in an event that typically goes Notre Dame’s way. Will it happen again?

What the experts are predicting: Notre Dame at North Carolina

The experts appear to be split this week.

Notre Dame will attempt to get to .500 for the first time this season Saturday when it visits North Carolina. It’s all part of the quest to still make a respectable bowl game. We’ll see how far they’ve come in a week and whether that particular bowl goal remains a possibility.

What the experts are predicting: Notre Dame vs. California

Do you think the Irish finally win one?

It’s getting to be a desperate time for Notre Dame. The question fast is becoming whether it even will earn enough wins to earn an invitation to any bowl game. It can get started on that track if it beats California.

What the experts are predicting: Notre Dame vs. Marshall

The Irish got this, or so people think.

Notre Dame will have another chance get on the board for the 2022 season Saturday. Against a program like Marshall, that shouldn’t be a problem. Then again, college football has seen crazier things happen.

What the experts are predicting: Notre Dame at Ohio State

What’s your pick?

Notre Dame has a tough draw to open 2022 by playing at Ohio State. We don’t know if the Irish have an upset in them, but you better believe it would vault them even higher in the rankings than they already are. If there are any actual believers in the Irish for this contest, we’d be interested to know why because they sure aren’t many.

Tale of the Tape: Starting QBs – Tyler Buchner vs. C.J. Stroud

Big shock, but this is a mismatch.

Notre Dame and Ohio State’s quarterbacks are about as big a mismatch as you can imagine, at least right now. [autotag]Tyler Buchner[/autotag] has been named the Irish’s starter to begin the season, and it won’t be easy to replace all the production left by [autotag]Jack Coan[/autotag]. However, one thing Buchner can do that Coan couldn’t is run with the ball, so that should allow [autotag]Tommy Rees[/autotag] to be a little more creative with his play-calling. How that will work against a team as talented as the Buckeyes is anyone’s guess.

C.J. Stroud was a major reason the Buckeyes had the nation’s top offense last year. He might be even better this year as he is the preseason pick among College Wire editors to win the Heisman Trophy. Talk about a challenge for the defensive-minded [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] in his first regular-season game as coach. That said, Stroud doesn’t run very well, so forcing him to do that by taking away his passing lanes and providing plentiful cover of his receivers will be key.

Notre Dame hasn’t won a major bowl in over a quarter of a century. It can snap that skid against Oklahoma State in the Fiesta Bowl on New Year’s Day. All eyes will be on Marcus Freeman in his first game as head coach of this legendary program. A victory would go a long way in giving the Irish confidence for the 2022 season.

What the experts are predicting: Notre Dame at Stanford

Everyone seems to think one thing on this game.

This weekend will be Notre Dame’s last chance to prove it belongs in the College Football Playoff. A blowout win over struggling Stanford would force the committee to really look at the Irish. Meanwhile, the Cardinal would like to have something other than their win over Oregon to hang their hats on for this season.
