Jets at Golden Knights projected goalies

Connor Hellebuyck (15-3-0, 2.11 GAA, .928 SV%, 3 SO) vs. Adin Hill (9-4-2, 2.84 GAA, .895 SV%, 1 SO)

Hellebuyck has been one of the NHL’s top goalies this season. His wins and shutouts both rank first, while his SV% and GAA rank is second among goalies who have played at least 8 games. He has won 9 of his last 11 games, while allowing 1 or fewer goals in 5 of his last 9.

Jets at Golden Knights picks and predictions

Prediction

Golden Knights 3, Jets 2

Moneyline

BET GOLDEN KNIGHTS (-105).

Vegas has won 3 of its last 4 games, all on the road, while scoring 5 or more goals in 2 of its last 3. It plays at home for just the 3rd time in its last 10 games, facing a Winnipeg team that has recently struggled after a fiery start to the season. The Jets have dropped 2 of their last 3 games, each on the road, while scoring 1 goal in each loss.

Puck line/Against the spread

PASS.

The moneyline has better value on Vegas.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 6 (-110).

This game features 2 of the better goalies in the NHL. The Jets have hit the Under in 8 of their last 10 games, while scoring 1 goal or fewer in 4 of their last 7 and allowing 1 goal or fewer in 2 of their last 4.

The Golden Knights have scored 2 goals or fewer in 3 of their last 6, while not allowing more than 2 goals in 5 of their last 8, including in 3 of their last 4.

Jets at Golden Knights projected goalies

Connor Hellebuyck (37-25-2, 2.49 GAA, .920 SV%, 4 SO – regular season) vs. Laurent Brossoit (7-0-3, 2.17 GAA, .927 SV% – regular season)

Hellebuyck started this series on a positive note, allowing just a single goal on 17 shots. The offensive pressure by the Golden Knights has picked up in the last 3 games though and he’s allowed 13 goals on the past 116 shots. He is 1-3-0 with a 3.21 GAA and .895 SV% in 4 games in this series.

Brossoit coughed up 4 goals on 30 shots in Game 1, but he has bounced back with 3 consecutive wins — the first 3 postseason wins of his NHL career. He is 3-1-0 with a 2.75 GAA and .902 SV% in 4 games in the series.

Jets at Golden Knights picks and predictions

Prediction

Golden Knights 4, Jets 1

Moneyline

The Golden Knights (-190) will cost you nearly 2 times your potential return, and that’s too rich for my blood. My personal moneyline limit for a standalone bet is -180.

PASS, and look to the puck line instead.

Puck line/Against the spread

The GOLDEN KNIGHTS -1.5 (+150) are a much better value at plus money.

Vegas has covered the puck line in each of the past 2 games as a favorite.

The Golden Knights have won 4 of the past 5 on home ice, with the lone loss coming in Game 1. Vegas is 4-1 in its last 5 in the Conference Quarterfinals round, too.

Over/Under

The UNDER 5.5 (+105) is worth a look at plus money, but go lightly.

The Over has cashed in each of the first 4 games in this series, so this requires a leap of faith. However, the Under is 23-7-1 in the past 31 games on the road for the Jets, while going 12-4-3 in the past 19 when working on 2 days of rest.

Vegas should see a decent amount of goals, but I expect Winnipeg to struggle in this elimination game.

Winnipeg Jets at Vegas Golden Knights Game 2 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Winnipeg Jets at Vegas Golden Knights Game 2 odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Winnipeg Jets (47-33-3) visit the Vegas Golden Knights (51-23-9) on Thursday for Game 2 of the Western Conference quarterfinals. Puck drop from T-Mobile Arena is scheduled for 10 p.m. ET (TBS). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Jets vs. Golden Knights odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Jets picked up one of the more unexpected playoff results in Game 1, winning 5-1.

After a scoreless 1st period, Kyle Connor and Pierre-Luc Dubois struck for even-strength goals to quite “The Fortress” in the first 2:26 of the 2nd period. William Karlsson got the crowd back into it, slicing the lead in half at 15:49 of the period.

However, the 3rd period was all Jets, as Blake Wheeler notched a goal at 3:53, and the Jets saw Adam Lowry bag a pair of empty-net goals to put an exclamation point on the 5-1 Game 1 victory.

Jets forward Morgan Barron was shoved into the crease by Chandler Stephenson, and his face landed on the skate of sprawling goaltender Laurent Brossoit. The blade obviously missed his eye, but he needed 75 stitches to close the gash. Is he out for the season? No, he is a hockey player. He returned with the bird cage, and finished the game with 3 shots and 5 hits.

Jets at Golden Knights Game 2 projected goalies

Connor Hellebuyck (37-25-2, 2.49 GAA, .920 SV%, 4 SO – regular season) vs. Laurent Brossoit (7-0-3, 2.17 GAA, .927 SV% – regular season)

Hellebuyck was barely tested in Game 1, facing just 17 shots while allowing the Karlsson marker in the 2nd period. The Michigander picked up his 17th career NHL postseason win, and he has a 2.42 GAA and .921 SV% with 3 SO in his 36 career playoff starts.

Brossoit, who was Hellebuyck’s backup in Winnipeg for 3 seasons from 2018-20, is still in search of that 1st-ever NHL playoff win. In fact, Brossoit was making his 1st start in the playoffs in Game 1, with just a relief appearance in the 2017 playoffs with the Edmonton Oilers to his credit.

Jets at Golden Knights Game 2 picks and predictions

Prediction

Golden Knights 4, Jets 3

Moneyline

The GOLDEN KNIGHTS (-150) are moderate favorites in Game 2, and worth backing despite the obvious goaltender disparity. Hellebuyck has the experience, Brossoit has mostly watched postseason games with a ball cap, especially in his 3 seasons in Winnipeg.

Still, VGK is 12-4 in the last 16 games at home, while going 7-3 in the last 10 when allowing 3 or more goals in the previous outing. I expect Vegas to bounce back in a big way, as Brossoit gets that huge 1st-ever NHL playoff win.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Jets +1.5 (-200) will cost you 2 times your potential return, and that’s just too much risk and not enough reward. Winnipeg seized home-ice advantage in this series with a giant Game 1 win, but sweeping both games in Vegas is too much to ask. But, don’t expect this scrappy bunch to go quietly into the night, either.

PASS.

Over/Under

OVER 5.5 (-115) is the best play on the board. Vegas will get its offense jump-started in Game 2, feeding off the raucous crowd at T-Mobile Arena.

The Jets showed they can handle Brossoit, and many of the players like Connor, Mark Scheifele, Wheeler, etc. played with him, so they know his tendencies from years of practicing together. That is helpful for goal scorers, too.

I like a higher-scoring affair in Game 2.

Jets at Golden Knights projected goalies

David Rittich (6-3-4, 3.57 GAA, .886 SV% in 2021-22 w/Nashville) vs. Logan Thompson (2-1-0, 2.03 GAA, .938 SV%, 1 SO)

The veteran Rittich is expected to make his first appearance as a member of the Jets on the second end of a back-to-back situation. He hasn’t faced VGK since the 2019-20 season when he went 0-2-0 with a 5.02 GAA and .836 SV% in 2 starts with Calgary.

Thompson lost to the Flames last time out, allowing 3 goals on 40 shots. He posted a 27-save shutout in a 1-0 win over the visiting Chicago Blackhawks in his only home start to date last Thursday.

Jets at Golden Knights picks and predictions

Prediction

Golden Knights 5, Jets 2

Moneyline

The GOLDEN KNIGHTS (-165) are moderate favorites, and it’s a little surprising the number is this low considering the Jets just played Wednesday.

Yes, Winnipeg won, and yes, it was an impressive victory over the defending champs in their barn. However, Rittich won’t help the Jets come up aces in Vegas, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him get lit up.

Puck line/Against the spread

The GOLDEN KNIGHTS -1.5 (+140) is worth playing lightly on the puck line. There is some risk here, as VGK is 0-1 as a favorite on the puck line with Thompson patrolling the blue paint, but that was a lack of offensive support and not an indictment of his play.

Over/Under

The OVER 6.5 (-115) is worth playing here, but it won’t go Over by much.

Rittich is likely to have some rust in his first start of the season, and Thompson had a shutout in his only home start so far. This play comes with risk, so play just a half-unit here.
