Coveted TE recruit quickly sets Florida visit date after receiving offer

Three-star tight end Reid Mikeska quickly scheduled a visit to Florida after he received an offer earlier this week.

Florida wasn’t planning to take any tight ends in the 2023 recruiting cycle after it inked three players in coach [autotag]Billy Napier[/autotag]’s transition class. However, the Gators have changed their tune after depth issues have arisen following [autotag]Nick Elksnis[/autotag] and [autotag]Jonathan Odoms[/autotag]’ injuries that will cause them to miss the rest of spring. They currently only have one healthy scholarship tight end left.

With Florida’s change of plans, coach [autotag]William Peagler[/autotag] has delivered several scholarship offers to prospects. One recipient is three-star [autotag]Reid Mikeska[/autotag], and after giving the green light, he is slated to visit the Swamp this weekend.

247Sports ranks Mikeska as the 428th overall prospect and the 23rd best at his position. The Cypress, Texas, native hauled in 24 catches for 229 yards and four receiving touchdowns during his junior season.

Mikeska looks forward to putting Peagler’s name to a face when he comes to campus this weekend. He told Swamp247 that he has a good relationship with him so far and has communicated with him for a few months before Peagler gave him the good news.

He also recently dropped a top 12 that included the Gators. Mikeska hopes to make a commitment before the start of his senior season and wants to use his official visits in June.

Michigan State football is set to lose an important piece of the coaching staff after the Peach Bowl. On Friday, it was announced that Peagler is leaving the Spartans to become the Tight Ends coach at Florida.

“I want to thank (Peagler) for everything he has done for our program,” Tucker wrote. “Day in and day out he gave everything he had to this football family and I am excited to see what the future holds for him.”

Peagler is largely credited with the relationship he formed with star running back Kenneth Walker III during the transfer process and helping the program identify him in the portal.

Key quotes from MSU football staff and players heading into Rutgers matchup

Key quotes from MSU football staff and players heading into Rutgers matchup

Michigan State football will face another Big Ten foe in Rutgers this weekend. Of course, the Spartans started their season on a dour note last year with a 38-27 loss at home to the Scarlet Knights, so this will be a major grudge match for an undefeated MSU team.

Below, we compiled the best quotes from Michigan State running backs coach William Peagler, defensive line coach Ron Burton, and quarterback Payton Thorne.

Michigan State Football offers 2021 3-star QB/ATH Caleb Hood

Michigan State has offered a 3-star multi-position athlete out of Richmond High School in North Carolina.

[jwplayer uiKRAikX]

Michigan State Football head coach Mel Tucker continues to do his due diligence in putting together his 2021 recruiting class, this time offering a scholarship to a 3-star multi-position athlete who is currently projected to go to North Carolina in Caleb Hood.

Hood is listed as both an ‘athlete’ and a pro-style quarterback on 247sports, but it looks like he was recruited by running backs coach William Peagler, who was tagged in Hood’s announcement of the offer on Twitter, which you can see below:

Hood is the No. 30 ranked player in North Carolina according to the 247sports rankings and the No. 43 ranked athlete in the 2021 class. Hood is currently attending Richmond High School in Rockingham, North Carolina.

MSU Football lands first commitment of Mel Tucker era in 3-star RB Davion Primm

Michigan State has landed the first commit of the 2021 recruiting class in Oak Park RB Davion Primm.

[jwplayer PPs4Ox8k]

Ever since Mel Tucker arrived in East Lansing, fans have watched as Michigan State sent out offer after offer to top recruits around the country. While it was nice to see the due diligence being done by the new administration, some fans were getting antsy with the lack of actual commitments coming in. Well, that changed Tuesday night when 2021 3-star running back Davion Primm posted his commitment on his Twitter account, marking the first commitment of the Tucker Era and of the 2021 MSU recruiting class.

You can read the Tweet and comments from Primm below:

Primm, who is out of Oak Park, Michigan, is the No. 86 ranked running back in the 2021 recruiting class according to 247sports‘ composite ranking. They also have him listed as the No. 31 ranked player in the state of Michigan.

This recruitment is accredited to MSU running backs coach William Peagler and Primm is a nice first addition to the 2021 class.

It also looks like there could be more commitments coming soon, as Primm’s high school teammate and MSU recruiting target Rayshaun Benny seemed to indicate that his decision could be incoming:

Benny visited Michigan State back in early March along with a few other top local prospects.

Michigan State Football offers scholarship to 2021 3-star RB Logan Diggs

Michigan State has offered a scholarship to a top 2021 running back in Logan Diggs out of Archbishop Rummel.

[jwplayer Y00XuEDn]

If there is one thing new Michigan State Football head coach Mel Tucker has done since taking over for Mark Dantonio is send offers to top talents around the country, and that goes doubly so for top running backs as of late. On Monday evening, 2021 3-star running back Logan Diggs announced on Twitter that he had received an offer from new running backs coach William Peagler and the Spartans.

Diggs, who is currently enrolled at Archbishop Rummel High School in Metairie, Louisiana, is the No. 12 ranked player in the state of Louisiana and the No. 33 ranked running back in his class, according to 247sports.

Last week, Tucker and Peagler offered three 4-star running backs on the same day. They also had offered another 3-star rusher in LJ Johnson Jr. Mel Tucker was recruited (had to use the wordplay) to Michigan State for his own recruiting reputation, and he has quickly started firing off offers left and right since joining the school. Only time will tell how many of these offers turn into recruits (and how many of those recruits turn into strong players), but it’s definitely an interesting story to keep an eye on.

MSU Football hires William Peagler as Running Backs Coach

Mel Tucker and Michigan State announced Peagler as the RB Coach Monday evening.

[jwplayer RJySF4hX]

Another day, another staff hire for Mel Tucker and MSU Football as they just announced that Mel Tucker will be adding William Peagler to his staff as the new Running Backs Coach at Michigan State. Peagler worked on Tucker’s staff as an offensive analyst at Colorado and will now follow Tucker to East Lansing.

Tucker has done a good job balancing his staff hires, with some personnel following him back from Colorado while also tapping into some Michigan State veterans like Ron Burton and Darien Harris. I admittedly do not have much information about Peagler as a coaching talent so I won’t comment too much on the merits of this hire and we will see how it plays out.

For a full list of Tucker’s staff hires you can check out our full round-up article here.
