The Wild opened the season a perfect 4-0-0, but they’re just 1-2-0 across the past five. They’re coming off a 4-1 loss at Seattle Thursday. The Under has hit in the past two outings, and Minnesota is averaging just 2.0 goals per game over the previous three contests.

The Avalanche posted a much-needed win in St. Louis Thursday, 4-3. In its three wins, Colorado has scored exactly four goals in each contest. In the four losses, the Avs are averaging just 2.0 goals per game while allowing 4.5 goals per outing.

Wild at Avalanche projected goalies

Cam Talbot (5-1-0, 2.47 GAA, .914 SV%) vs. Darcy Kuemper (3-3-0, 3.19 GAA, .893 SV%)

Talbot was surprised by the expansion Kraken Thursday in Seattle, although he allowed just two goals on 36 shots while the home side netted a pair of empty-net goals to make the score look worse than it was. He has allowed two or fewer goals in four of his six outings.

Kuemper coughed up three goals on 18 shots in a 4-3 win in St. Louis, his second straight road win. However, he is just 1-2-0 in three starts so far at home for his new organization.

Wild at Avalanche odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Avalanche 4, Wild 2

Money line

The AVALANCHE (-175) are a strong play on home ice against the visiting Wild (+140), a team they have dominated over the years. Colorado is 7-3 in the past 10 meetings at Ball Arena, and the home side has won five of the previous seven battles overall in this series.

Against the spread

The AVALANCHE -1.5 (+145) are worth a shot on the puck line, although they have covered just once in their three wins to date. That puck line win came Oct. 13 against Chicago in the regular-season opener. But given Colorado’s dominance in this series, the Avs are the play. Colorado covered the most two recent home games against Minnesota, outscoring them 11-1 last March 18-20.

Over/Under

OVER 5.5 (-125) is the lean here based upon the series trends. The Over has connected in each of the past five head-to-head meetings. While the Under is 4-0 in the past four road games for Minnesota, the Over is 5-2-1 in the past eight games overall for Colorado.

The Minnesota Wild (18-8-1) open up a two-game set on the road against the Colorado Avalanche (17-8-2) Thursday with a 9 p.m. ET puck drop at Ball Arena. Below, we analyze the Wild-Avalanche odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

Wild at Avalanche: Odds, spread and lines

  • Money line: Wild +140 (bet $100 to win $140) | Avalanche -165 (bet $165 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Wild +1.5 (-200) | Avalanche -1.5 (+165)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Wild at Avalanche: Projected starting goalies

Cam Talbot (6-4-1, 2.46 GAA, .916 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Philipp Grubauer (16-7-0, 1.85 GAA, .925 SV%, 4 SO)

Talbot looks to stay hot after allowing just one goal in two starts at home against the Arizona Coyotes. In his previous three outings, all away from home, he coughed up a total of 13 goals, so it has definitely been a different story on the road.

Grubauer came on in a relief appearance Tuesday against the Anaheim Ducks, and he turned aside all 15 shots he faced in the final two periods to pick up the victory. He was credited with the win in each of his past four appearances, allowing just two goals, and he has six victories in his previous seven games.

Wild at Avalanche: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Avalanche 3, Wild 2

Money line (ML)

The AVALANCHE (-165) are a little expensive considering the Wild won three of the first four meetings, but they’re playing very well and are coming off an 8-4 win against the Ducks Tuesday.

Colorado has won four straight and has lost just once in regulation across its past eight outings (6-1-1).

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The WILD +1.5 (-200) are a little bit expensive, but they are coming in on a five-game win streak, so they’re a good bet on the puck line.

In fact, Minnesota has outscored the opposition 17-4 in its past five games; however, Colorado has outpaced its opponents 16-6 in the previous four at home, so this one is going to be close.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 5.5 (-110) is the play, as Talbot and Grubauer are each playing very well for their respective clubs.

The Under is 3-0 in the past three for Minnesota, and 4-1 across the past five. For Colorado, the Over easily cashed last time out, but the Under is 4-1 in the previous five and 6-2 across the past eight. Go lightly on the Under.

The Minnesota Wild (6-4-0) play the first of a two-game road set against the Colorado Avalanche (6-3-1) at Ball Arena Tuesday for an 8:30 p.m. ET puck drop. Below, we analyze the Wild-Avalanche NHL odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Wild at Avalanche: Projected starting goalies

Cam Talbot (3-1-0, 2.49 GAA, .916 SV%) at Philipp Grubauer (6-2-0, 1.75 GAA, .930 SV%, 2 SO)

Talbot returned from a lower-body injury Sunday and he backstopped the Wild to a 4-3 home win over the Avs, stopping 22 of the 25 shots he faced. He has allowed three or fewer goals in all four of his starts to date.

Grubauer was rested in Sunday’s game, as it would have been the second end of a back-to-back. He allowed one goal on 20 shots in a 5-1 blowout win in Minnesota Saturday. He has coughed up a total of 10 goals over his past seven starts since allowing four goals in his opening appearance against the St. Louis Blues.

Wild at Avalanche: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Avalanche 5, Wild 2

Money line (ML)

The Avalanche (-185) are heavy favorites to top the Wild, and they’re a good bet behind Grubauer, who has been white-hot lately. This is just slightly over my personal money line limit of -180, but it isn’t a terrible play if you want to roll the dice with a small-unit wager.

I’ll officially PASS, but if you were to include this in a parlay, it’s not the end of the world.

Against the spread (ATS)

The AVALANCHE -1.5 (+150) are an attractive play in this one. Yes, they lost in overtime in St. Paul Sunday, but they had backup Hunter Miska between the pipes. They’re skating on home ice with Grubauer back in the crease, and that’s a recipe for a win by at least 2 goals.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 6 (+100) is worth a small-unit play. Grubauer has been hard on the opposition, so that’s a bit of a concern.

You need Minnesota to sneak at least 2 by him while Colorado does the heavy lifting. Still, at even-money, the Over is a decent value.
