[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Chicago White Sox (32-109) and Boston Red Sox (70-70) meet to open a 3-game series Friday. First pitch from Fenway Park is set for 7:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the White Sox vs. Red Sox odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Tied 2-2

Chicago destroyed the Baltimore 8-1 Orioles Wednesday as a whopping +280 road underdog. The win ended a 12-game skid for the White Sox, who are now hoping to string together back-to-back victories for the first time since a 3-game win streak June 27-29.

Boston was dismantled 8-3 by the New York Mets Wednesday as a +104 road underdog. The Red Sox have lost 5 straight. They’ve allowed at least 7 runs in each of their last 2 losses and scored 3 or fewer runs in each of their last 5 defeats.

White Sox at Red Sox projected starters

RHP Davis Martin vs. RHP Nick Pivetta

Martin (0-2, 3.62 ERA) makes his 7th start. He has a 1.39 WHIP, 3.9 BB/9 and 8.9 K/9 through 32 1/3 innings.

  • Last start: Loss, 5 IP, 4 ER, 5 H, 1 BB, 6 K in 5-3 home setback vs. Mets Saturday
  • Has never faced Boston

Pivetta (5-10, 4.53 ERA) makes his 22nd start. He has a 1.14 WHIP, 2.2 BB/9 and 10.8 K/9 through 117 1/3 innings.

  • Last start: Loss, 6 IP, 2 ER, 6 H, 1 BB, 6 K in 2-1 setback at Detroit Tigers Saturday
  • Career vs. White Sox: 1-0, 1.72 ERA (31 1/3 IP, 6 ER), 0.99 WHIP, 9.5 K/9 in 8 appearances (5 starts)

White Sox at Red Sox picks and predictions

Prediction

Red Sox 3, White Sox 2

Moneyline

PASS.

The Red Sox will likely win as -275 favorites, but a line set this heavily is never worth the risk of betting on. Bet the spread and/or Over/Under instead.

Run line/Against the spread

LEAN WHITE SOX +1.5 (+108).

Boston is the better team, but both teams are very cold entering this matchup, which makes the odds for a team like Chicago, which is coming off a surprising blowout win vs. a very good Baltimore team, even better.

Chicago has also played Boston very well recently, winning 6 of the last 10 meetings between these teams and 2 of the last 3.

This is a lean because Chicago is a much worse team than Boston, so the Red Sox blowing out the White Sox is never out of the question.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 9 (-110).

The Under has hit in each of Boston’s last 3 home games and is 6-3 in its last 9 overall. For Chicago, the Under is 6-3-1 in its last 10 games. The Under has also hit in each of the last 3 meetings in Boston and is 6-4 in the last 10 overall.

Be aware that the Over has hit in each of Chicago’s last 3 games.

Chicago White Sox at Boston Red Sox odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Chicago White Sox at Boston Red Sox odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The Chicago White Sox (11-13) visit Beantown Friday to start a 3-game set with the Boston Red Sox (10-16) at Fenway Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the White Sox vs. Red Sox odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Chicago is off to a disappointing start to 2022 but has won 4 of its last 5 games including back-to-back victories over the crosstown rival Chicago Cubs in Wrigley Field Tuesday-Wednesday.

Boston are 3-7 overall in the last 10 games and has lost five straight series to the Toronto Blue Jays (twice), Tampa Bay Rays, Baltimore Orioles and Los Angeles Angels.

The White Sox beat the Red Sox 4-3 in last year’s season series but Boston outscored Chicago 34-30 in those meetings.

White Sox at Red Sox projected starters

RHP Vince Velasquez vs. RHP Nathan Eovaldi

Velasquez (1-2, 4.58 ERA) beat the Los Angeles Angels Saturday 4-0, throwing 5 2/3 IP with 4 H, 0 BB and 6 K. He has a 4.34 FIP, 19 H, 3 ER, 7 BB and 19 K in 17 2/3 IP across 4 starts.

  • 2021 vs. Red Sox: 0-1 with a 19.64 ERA (3 2/3 IP, 8 ER), 6 H, 3 HR, 4 BB and 5 K in 1 relief appearance and 1 start while pitching for the Philadelphia Phillies.
  • vs. Red Sox on the current roster: 10.02 FIP with a .262 expected batting average (xBA), .392 expected wOBA (xwOBA), .567 expected slugging percentage (xSLG), 20.6 K% and 88.3 mph exit velocity (EV) in 68 plate appearances (PA).

Eovaldi (1-0, 2.51 ERA) got a no-decision in Boston’s 2-1 loss at the Baltimore Orioles Saturday, going 7-scoreless IP with 3 H, 0 BB and 8 K. He has a 4.46 FIP, 0.94 WHIP, 0.9 BB/9 and 10.0 K/9 in 28 2/3 IP over 5 starts.

  • 2021 vs. White Sox: One-start, 11-4 win with 6 1/3 IP, 4 ER, 9 H, 0 BB and 10 K April 19.
  • vs. White Sox on the current roster: 5.15 FIP with a .197 xBA, .277 xwOBA, .435 xSLG, 27.5 K% and 89.3 mph EV in 40 PA.

White Sox at Red Sox picks and predictions

Prediction

Red Sox 5, White Sox 3

Money line

LEAN to the RED SOX (-175) because this is an expensive price point for a Boston team that has struggled out the gate and the Red Sox’s bullpen cannot be trusted to hold a lead. Boston’s relievers lead the MLB in blown saves (7) and are just 5-9 overall.

However, the Red Sox are 10-1 overall in Eovaldi’s last 11 starts as a home favorite and Velasquez is a pitcher I like to fade, especially coming off a quality start. Velasquez’s road ERA, WHIP and K/9 for his career are all worse than his home marks.

Boston’s ML would have more value if its bullpen wasn’t so terrible but the RED SOX (-175) for a tiny wager should cash.

Run line/Against the spread

BET the RED SOX -0.5 FIRST 5-INNING RUN LINE (-122) to avoid their bullpen blowing another save and costing us money in the long run and because Boston has a sizeable edge in the starting pitching matchup Friday.

Also, Velasquez got nuked in his visit to Fenway last season for 8 ER on 6 H, 3 HR and 4 BB in just 2 1/3 IP.

The RED SOX -0.5 FIRST 5-INNING RUN LINE (-122) is my favorite wager in this game.

Over/Under

LEAN to the UNDER 8.5 (-120) since the total is dropping due to sharp line movement even though both lineups have stacked with known sluggers, neither bullpen has been any good thus far and Fenway is a notorious hitter-friendly ballpark.

But, I have a tough time betting an Under in Velasquez start and both lineups will show up eventually this year.

Chicago White Sox at Boston Red Sox odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Friday’s Chicago White Sox at Boston Red Sox odds and lines, with MLB picks and predictions.

The Chicago White Sox (6-7) start a four-game series with the Boston Red Sox (9-4) Friday at Fenway Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. ET.  Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook‘s lines around the White Sox vs. Red Sox odds with MLB picks and predictions.

The White Sox have alternated wins and losses in their past eight games. They’re coming off a 2-2 split against the visiting Cleveland Indians.

The Red Sox had a nine-game win streak snapped Thursday with a 4-3 loss at the Minnesota Twins.

RHP Dylan Cease makes the start for the White Sox. Cease is 0-0 with a 3.86 ERA, 1.61 WHIP, 8.7 K/9 and 5.8 BB/9 over 2 starts this season.

  • Last outing: No-decision in 4 2/3 IP with 1 ER, 4 H, 3 BB and 6 K in 4-3 loss to the Kansas City Royals Sunday

RHP Nick Pivetta is on the rubber for the Red Sox. Pivetta is 2-0 with a 3.27 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, 9.0 K/9 and 5.7 BB/9 in 2 starts.

  • Last outing: Win in 6 IP with 4 ER, 7 H, 3 BB and 7 K in 14-9 beatdown of the Baltimore Orioles Sunday
  • Career in Fenway Park: 2-0 with a 0.90 ERA (10 IP, 1 ER), 6 H, 7 BB and 12 K across 2 starts

White Sox at Red Sox odds, lines, picks and prediction

MLB odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 1:42 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: White Sox -105 (bet $105 to win $100) | Red Sox -115 (bet $115 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: White Sox -1.5 (+150) | Red Sox +1.5 (-185)
  • Over/Under: 8.5 (O: -120 | U: +100)

Prediction

White Sox 10, Red Sox 4

Money line (ML)

Both pitchers are making their first start against their respective opponent so there’s not much data on how these starters are going to perform. The most astounding nugget I’ve picked up is that Pivetta is not a night owl.

Pivetta has a winning record in the day but is just 11-21 at night allowing 2.5-plus more runs per nine innings and a 1.52 WHIP at night compared to 1.26 WHIP in the day.

BET WHITE SOX (-105) for 0.75 units.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

Slight “LEAN” to the WHITE SOX -1.5 (+150) for a quarter unit since the payout is so juicy. Since the beginning of last season, the White Sox have a 15-8 run line record as road favorites.

Also, Chicago’s lineup hasn’t gotten out to a great start, but Pivetta’s exit velocity, hard-hit rate and flyball rate exceed the MLB average, so this could be a get-right game for the White Sox lineup.

Over/Under (O/U)

Boston is 15-6-2 O/U as a home underdog from the beginning of 2020.

Furthermore, it’s been a couple of years since we’ve seen a White Sox-Red Sox game, but a lot of the same hitters will be in this game and the Over has cashed in four of the past five meetings.

Finally, bettors have steamed this total down from 9.5 on the opener to the current price, which gives us a “fade the market” angle.

However, since the Over is a little pricey and the market is hammering the Under on a so-so starting pitching matchup, I only “LEAN” OVER 8.5 (-120) for a quarter unit.
