Chicago White Sox at Texas Rangers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Chicago White Sox at Texas Rangers odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Chicago White Sox (27-77) and the Texas Rangers (50-52) wrap up a 4-game series Thursday. First pitch from Globe Life Field is at 2:35 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the White Sox vs. Rangers odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Rangers lead 3-0

The White Sox look to avoid the 4-game sweep against the defending champs. The Rangers won the first 2 games by 1 run apiece — 4-3 in 10 innings and 3-2 in 9 — and blew out the White Sox10-2 as heavy -266 favorites Wednesday with the Over (8.5) connecting for the 1st time in this series.

Chicago has dropped 10 games in a row — 4 before the All-Star break and 6 since Friday. The Sox haven’t scored more than 3 runs in the last 6 games, only doing so once in their past 11 contests. They are 1-13 in the last 14 games — the only win in that stretch was a 3-1 home victory vs. the Minnesota Twins July 10.

Meanwhile, Texas has won 7 straight meetings vs. the Southsiders — 3 in this series and 4 in a row last season. The Under is 3-1 in the past 4 meetings.

The Rangers have won 4 in a row overall, with 3 of those victories coming by a single run. The Under is 3-1 in their past 4 outings, while cashing at a 5-3 pace in the previous 8 outings.

White Sox at Rangers projected starters

RHP Jonathan Cannon vs. RHP Max Scherzer

Cannon (1-4, 4.58 ERA) makes his 10th start and 12th appearance. The rookie has a 1.32 WHIP, 2.1 BB/9 and 6.8 K/9 through 57 innings.

  • Last start: Loss, 6 IP, 4 ER, 8 H, 0 BB, 4 K in 6-1 setback at Kansas City Royals Saturday
  • 2024 road splits: 0-3, 6.46 ERA (23 2/3 IP, 17 ER), 1.56 WHIP, .313 opponents’ batting average (OBA), 6 BB, 20 K in 5 starts
  • Never faced Rangers before

Scherzer (1-3, 3.99 ERA) makes his 7th start. He has a 1.16 WHIP, 1.8 BB/9 and 7.4 K/9 through 29 1/3 innings.

  • Last start: Loss, 2 IP, 4 ER, 5 H, 2 BB, 1 K in 8-4 home setback vs. Baltimore Orioles Saturday
  • 2024 home splits: 1-2, 4.73 ERA (13 1/3 IP, 7 ER), 1.13 WHIP, .240 OBA, 3 BB, 8 K in 3 starts
  • Career vs. White Sox: 14-6, 2.50 ERA (169 IP, 47 ER), 1.03 WHIP, 9.6 K/9 in 25 starts

White Sox at Rangers picks and predictions

Prediction

Rangers 6, White Sox 3

Moneyline

The Rangers (-255) will cost just a bit more than 2½ times the potential return. That’s way too much risk for not enough reward.

The White Sox (+210) cannot be trusted with Cannon going against the veteran Scherzer. However, while Texas has won all 3 meetings in this series, only one victory was by more than 1 run.

PASS.

Run line/Against the spread

TEXAS -1.5 (-120) is priced fairly on the run line. Texas belted Chicago 10-2 Wednesday, easily covering as a big favorite. Be careful, though. Texas might be 7-4 in its last 11 games, but 5 of those victories was just by 1 run.

In addition, the Rangers are 1-4 on the run line in the past 5 starts by Scherzer, so tread lightly.

Over/Under

LEAN OVER 8 (-106) — only bet a HALF UNIT at best.

The O/U is 3-3 in the past 6 games for the Rangers since the All-Star break. Texas is averaging 4.2 runs per game (RPG), while allowing 4.3 RPG in the 6-game span.

For the White Sox, the Under is 5-1 in their past 6 games, and 9-2 across the previous 11 outings. Chicago’s offense is averaging just 1.9 RPG in the 10-game skid, so proceed cautiously.

Chicago White Sox at Texas Rangers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Chicago White Sox at Texas Rangers odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Chicago White Sox (27-76) and Texas Rangers (49-52) play the 3rd game of a 4-game set at Globe Life Field Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the White Sox vs. Rangers odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Rangers lead 2-0

After taking the Monday opener 4-3 in 10 innings, the Rangers won 3-2 as -127 favorites in the 2nd game of the series Tuesday as the Under (7) hit. RHP Jon Gray retired the final 15 batters he faced and allowed just 1 run in 7 2/3 innings.

White Sox 1B Andrew Vaughn hit an RBI single in the 3rd inning, the last time that Gray would allow a Chicago batter to reach base. The White Sox have lost 9 straight games.

White Sox at Rangers projected starters

RHP Chris Flexen vs. RHP Nathan Eovaldi

Flexen (2-9, 5.22 ERA) makes his 20th start and 22nd appearance. He has a 1.40 WHIP, 3.6 BB/9 and 6.6 K/9 in 101 2/3 IP.

  • Last start: Loss, 4 2/3 IP, 7 ER, 4 H, 5 BB, 4 K in 7-1 defeat at Kansas City Royals Friday
  • 2024 road stats: 1-4, 5.83 ERA (41 2/3 IP, 27 ER), 1.30 WHIP, 7.1 K/9 in 9 appearances (7 starts)
  • Career vs. Rangers: 6-0, 3.14 ERA (48 2/3 IP, 17 ER), 1.13 WHIP, 7.4 K/9 in 12 appearances (7 starts), including 0-0 with 15.00 ERA (3 IP, 5 ER) in 2 relief appearances last year

Eovaldi (6-4, 3.36 ERA) makes his 18th start. He has a 1.07 WHIP, 2.4 BB/9 and 8.5 K/9 in 99 IP.

  • Last start: Loss, 5 IP, 6 ER, 8 H, 0 BB, 2 K in 9-1 home setback vs. Baltimore Orioles Friday
  • 2024 home stats: 5-1, 2.69 ERA (63 2/3 IP, 19 ER), 0.85 WHIP, 8.5 K/9 in 11 starts
  • Career vs. White Sox: 2-2, 5.67 ERA (27 IP, 17 ER), 1.48 WHIP, 8.0 K/9 in 6 appearances (5 starts)

White Sox at Rangers picks and predictions

Prediction

Rangers 4, White Sox 3

Moneyline

The Rangers (-250) should hand Chicago its 10th straight loss, but it’s hard to be profitable long term betting into lines with this much vig.

PASS. Bet the run line and/or total instead.

Run line/Against the spread

The last time the Rangers won a game by multiple runs was their final outing before the All-Star break, a 4-2 home win over the Houston Astros July 14. Only 1 of Texas’ last 10 games has resulted in a Rangers win by 2 or more runs.

However, the Rangers are facing Flexen, who is the least profitable starter in MLB this season, according to OddsShark.com. If a bettor were to risk $100 on White Sox ML every time that Flexen started this season, they would be down $1,315 — not exactly a pitcher worth backing.

Flexen happens to be 6-0 in his career against the Rangers, but by no means is that stat predictive of the future. If you walk by a roulette table and red has hit 6 times in a row, it doesn’t mean that you’re less likely to win by betting on black.

Neither option seems very attractive, but taking Chicago in a close loss may be the lesser of 2 evils.

LEAN WHITE SOX +1.5 (-110).

Over/Under

The Rangers have failed to score 5 or more runs in a single game since the break, and the White Sox have scored 3 or fewer in each outing over that span. While Flexen has given up 5 or more runs 5 times this season, the Rangers have been just too disappointing offensively to play the Over.

BET UNDER 8 (-105).

Analyzing Monday’s Chicago White Sox at Texas Rangers odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Chicago White Sox (27-74) and Texas Rangers (47-52) open a 4-game set at Globe Life Field Monday. First pitch is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the White Sox vs. Rangers odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: First meeting; Rangers won 5-1 last year

The White Sox were swept at the Kansas City Royals in a 3-game weekend set. They wrapped up the series with a 4-1 loss as +200 underdogs Sunday with the Under (8) hitting.

The Rangers avoided a 3-game sweep against the Baltimore Orioles, salvaging the Sunday finale 3-2 as -127 home favorites as the Under (9) cashed. C Jonah Heim hit a 3-run HR in the 4th inning, and LHP Andrew Heaney allowed just 2 hits in 5 scoreless innings.

White Sox at Rangers projected starters

RHP Erick Fedde vs. RHP Michael Lorenzen

Fedde (7-3, 2.99 ERA) makes his 20th start. He has a 1.13 WHIP, 2.4 BB/9 and 8.0 K/9 in 111 1/3 IP.

  • Last start: Win, 5 IP, 0 R, 4 H, 2 BB, 5 K in 3-1 home victory over Minnesota Twins July 10
  • 2024 road stats: 2-2, 4.19 ERA (62 1/3 IP, 29 ER), 1.28 WHIP, 7.7 K/9 in 11 starts
  • Never faced Rangers before

Lorenzen (5-5, 3.52 ERA) makes his 17th start. He has a 1.22 WHIP, 4.3 BB/9 and 6.4 K/9 in 92 IP.

  • Last start: Loss, 5 IP, 5 ER, 5 H, 4 BB, 3 K in 7-2 defeat at Los Angeles Angels July 10
  • 2024 home stats: 1-2, 3.12 ERA (34 2/3 IP, 12 ER), 1.13 WHIP, 5.5 K/9 in 6 starts
  • Career vs. White Sox: 1-0, 2.50 ERA (36 IP, 10 ER), 1.17 WHIP, 6.3 K/9 in 8 appearances (5 starts), including 0-0 with 0.66 ERA (13 2/3 IP, 1 ER) in 2 starts last year

White Sox at Rangers picks and predictions

Prediction

Rangers 5, White Sox 2

Moneyline

The Rangers (-185) should hand Chicago its 8th straight loss, but it’s hard to stay profitable long term betting into lines with this much vig.

PASS. Bet the run line and/or total instead.

Run line/Against the spread

The White Sox have lost 6 straight games by 3 or more runs and scored 2 or fewer runs 5 times over that span. The Rangers were outscored 19-7 by the Orioles over the weekend, but Baltimore has been the best team in the American League this season, while Chicago has been the worst.

This is a great opportunity for the defending World Series champs to get their confidence back against an inferior opponent.

BET RANGERS -1.5 (+110).

Over/Under

Lorenzen has allowed 1 run or fewer in 3 starts this season when coming off an outing with 5 or more ER. He faces a White Sox team that is last in MLB in runs per game (3.13) and 2nd-last in batting average (.219).

The Under has also been profitable when Texas is a home favorite this season, hitting at 67.7% (23-11-2) according to Teamrankings.com.

BET UNDER 8.5 (-115).

Chicago White Sox at Texas Rangers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Chicago White Sox at Texas Rangers odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Chicago White Sox (43-64) open a 3-game series against the Texas Rangers (60-46) Tuesday at Globe Life Field. First pitch is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the White Sox vs. Rangers odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Rangers lead 2-1

The White Sox were shut out 5-0 by the Cleveland Guardians Sunday when they were last in action. Chicago has lost 7 of its last 10 games and is in 4th place in the AL Central, 11 games back of the division-leading Minnesota Twins.

The Rangers lost 5-3 to the San Diego Padres on Sunday as they were swept in the 3-game series. Texas is also 3-7 in its last 10 games and is only 1 game ahead of the Houston Astros in the AL West due to its recent struggles.

White Sox at Rangers projected starters

RHP Jesse Scholtens vs. LHP Andrew Heaney

Scholtens (1-3, 3.32 ERA) makes his 3rd start and 17th appearance. He has a 1.32 WHIP, 2.8 BB/9 and 5.4 K/9 through 38 IP.

  • Last start: No-decision, 4 IP, 3 ER, 11 H, 0 BB, 1 K in 5-4 home loss vs. Toronto Blue Jays on July 6
  • Road stats: 0-3, 2.82 ERA (22 1/3 IP, 7 ER) in 1 start and 9 relief appearances
  • Career vs. Rangers: 2/3 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 0 BB, 0 K in relief on June 19

Heaney (7-6, 4.62 ERA) makes his 21st start. He has a 1.35 WHIP, 3.8 BB/9 and 9.1 K/9 through 101 1/3 IP.

  • Last start: Win, 5 IP, 3 ER, 4 H, 3 BB, 3 K in 13-5 road win over Houston Astros Wednesday
  • Home stats: 4-3, 4.97 ERA (58 IP, 32 ER) in 12 starts

White Sox at Rangers picks and predictions

Prediction

Rangers 6, White Sox 4

Moneyline

Even though the Rangers should secure the win at home on Tuesday, I’ll AVOID taking their moneyline at over -200 odds and focus on the run line and total instead.

Run line/Against the spread

RANGERS -1.5 (-115) is how I’d wager on the run line with Scholtens pitching for the White Sox. Scholtens doesn’t strike many batters out, and even with SS Corey Seager missing time recently, the Rangers still have the 5th-best wOBA (.351) and the 4th-best wRC+ (125) against righties since the start of July.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

OVER 9 (-115) is the pick in this contest with Scholtens and Heaney taking the mound. In the 6 games that Scholtens has pitched at least 4 innings, he’s allowed 2 earned runs or more in 4.

Meanwhile, Heaney has given up 3 earned runs or more in 3 of his last 5 starts.
