Michigan State is one of the finalists to land arguably the state’s top prospect for the class of 2022.
Dillon Tatum, a four-star athlete from West Bloomfield, narrowed down his list of schools he’s considering to four on Sunday and the Spartans made the list. Michigan State is joined by Michigan, Notre Dame and Baylor, with Wisconsin, Ohio State, Georgia, USC, Nebraska and Penn State falling out of contention for this top prospect.

Tatum is listed by 247Sports as the No. 5 prospect in Michigan for the class of 2022, and No. 269 overall in the country. He’s also ranked as the No. 16 athlete (ATH) nationally.
Being in contention for such a highly-touted recruit like Tatum is great to see for the Spartans. However, it may be hard for Michigan State to beat out in-state rivals Michigan for this heralded recruit. Tatum currently is projected to end up in Ann Arbor and his former high school coach — Ron Bellamy — joined the Wolverines’ coaching staff this offseason as an assistant coach. This of course doesn’t guarantee he’ll choose Michigan over Michigan State so still being in consideration is great to see for the Spartans.
