LSU Tigers’ men’s basketball team starts conference play with Auburn showdown. LSU comes into the game ranked No. 16 and Auburn at No.11

The Tigers bring a perfect record of 12-0 to the table after beating Lipscomb 95-60 on Dec. 22. Auburn is 11-1 so far this season. LSU will have to travel to Auburn, where they have not won since 2016 when they beat Auburn 80-68.

LSU players to watch

Tari Eason and Darius Days

Tari Eason leads LSU in scoring with 16.3 points per game. He is also grabbing 7.5 rebounds per game. Also, Darius Days, averaging 15 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. Days is also connecting from three-point land at 38.2% and in the last three games shot 8 for 21 from beyond the arc.

Auburn players to watch

Jabari Smith and Wendell Green Jr.

Jabari Smith averages 16.2 points, and 7.2 rebounds per game, and Wendell Green Jr is pitching in with 11.8 points per game. Auburn has won six in a row at home, scoring 80.3 points and only giving up 58.8 during the six-game winning streak.

LSU has surprised everybody with their defense so far this season. They have held opposing teams to 54.1 points per game, which is good for No.2 in scoring defense of all Division I teams.

Prediction

LSU comes up short by 3 pointst in this game in a low-scoring contest,  both teams have been playing good defense, but Auburn has the edge being at home. It should be an outstanding game, it really could go either way.

Takeaways from Auburn’s win over Murray State

Huge win for the Tigers.

Auburn asserted dominance in their final non-conference game before they begin their SEC slate.

The Tigers (11-1) defeated Murray State 71-58 behind another solid performance from Walker Kessler, who finished with 13 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 blocks.

Auburn did two things really well in this game that they struggled to do well against St. Louis – play well in transition and rebound the ball well.

Murray State allows teams to shoot 53.4% from inside the arc and Auburn shot an even 54%. It was an even attack from the Tigers on Wednesday night, and it certainly worked.

Defensively, Auburn held the Racers (who average 86 points per game) to just 58 points on just 33.9% shooting.

Here are five takeaways from Auburn’s 13 point win over Murray State.

Takeaways from Auburn basketball’s win over Loyola Chicago

Here are some takeaways from Auburn’s win over Sister Jean & Co.

The defense finally pulled itself together for the Tigers.

Auburn handled. Loyola Chicago 62-53 in the consolation bracket of the Bad Boy Mowers Battle 4 Atlantis. The Tigers needed to figure some things out on the defensive end after letting UConn score 115 points in the opening round of the Battle 4 Atlantis yesterday, and it still took them a half to figure it out in this one.

Loyola Chicago was shooting over 70% from the floor and 60% from three as the first half came to a close. The Ramblers finished the day shooting 44.7% overall and 30.4% from deep.

Here are five takeaways from Auburn’s win.

Takeaways from Auburn’s double-overtime loss to UConn

What a game.

What a game.

The Auburn Tigers found themselves up by 11 early, then down by 15, then tied at the end of both regulation and overtime. But unfortunately, the offense sputtered out in a 115-109 double-overtime loss to UConn in the Battle 4 Atlantis. A tough one, for sure, but man was that fun.

Auburn fans should not be distraught after losing. That was a phenomenal game that showed so much potential. The Tigers allowed UConn to make 8-of-12 from deep in the first half but managed to slow the Huskies’ shooting down just enough to climb back into the contest.

Here are five takeaways from the loss.

Five reasons why Auburn basketball is going to win the SEC

Sip the Kool-Aid with us, will you?

It’s never to late to pump some sunshine.

Auburn played decently well against Morehead State on Tuesday night in a 77-54 win. The Tigers let off the gas in the second half, but overall their talent was shining through, and as a fan that’s what I wanted to see most.

I know there are a lot of folks high up on teams like Arkansas, Kentucky, Alabama, Tennessee, and even LSU and Mississippi State. The Southeastern Conference has a loaded field of teams this season. But I think the Tigers of Auburn are going to be the ones that come out on top.

Here are five reasons why.

Five takeaways from Auburn vs Morehead State

What was your biggest takeaway from Auburn basketball’s first win?

This is one of the most talented teams I have ever had the pleasure of witnessing in person.

While Auburn wasn’t particularly impressive in the second half, the Tigers came away with a 77-54 win over the Morehead State Eagles.

The Tigers overcame some issues that they had in the exhibition game against Southern Indiana, but its still clear that the chemistry for this team isn’t quite there yet. The talent and the intensity surely is. As most Bruce Pearl teams do, this team is going to hopefully build that chemistry as the season develops.

Here are five takeaways from the win.

Updated look at 2021-22 Auburn basketball potential starting lineup

Auburn’s roster has undergone a major makeover with key departures and incoming stars. Here’s a look at a potential starting lineup.

It’s been a couple of weeks since we took a look at what Auburn’s basketball roster could look like next season and, boy, it has been busy days for Bruce Pearl and company.

Vaunted guard signee Trey Alexander decided to reopen his commitment and said he won’t be playing with the Tigers now while the future of JT Thor in an Auburn uniform looks shaky as ever.

The NCAA transfer portal has been helpful for the Tigers, though, as they have signed some quality players in North Carolina center Walker Kessler, College of Charleston guard Zep Jasper, Eastern Kentucky guard Wendell Green Jr. and Arkansas guard Desi Sills.

With those additions along with the departures of Sharife Cooper, Justin Powell, Jamal Johnson and Javon Franklin, here’s an updated look at what the lineup could look like along with some key contributors.

Eastern Kentucky transfer Wendell Green Jr. officially signs with Auburn

Auburn has officially signed Eastern Kentucky transfer guard Wendell Green Jr.

Auburn has gained another guard for the 2021-22 season.

On Thursday, Wendell Green Jr., a transfer from Eastern Kentucky, officially signed with the Tigers.

“Auburn basketball has a history of doing special things with very special undersized point guards,” Bruce Pearl said. “Wendell Green has won at every level, but has always had to prove himself to people. He’s won at La Lumiere School in Indiana, Detroit Country Day in Michigan and last season at Eastern Kentucky. He’s a fierce competitor and he makes everyone he plays with on the floor better.”

As a freshman for the Colonels last season, Green averaged 15.8 points, 5.0 assists, 3.4 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game. He has four years of eligibility left and is expected to compete with fellow transfer Zep Jasper for the starting point guard position.

Auburn lands commitment from transfer point guard Wendell Green Jr.

Eastern Kentucky transfer point guard Wendell Green Jr. has committed to Auburn.

Auburn just found its replacement for Sharife Cooper.

On Friday, Wendell Green Jr., a transfer point guard from Eastern Kentucky, announced his commitment to the Tigers.

From Auburn Undercover:

In his freshman season at EKU, Green scored 15.3 points and dished out 5.0 assists — a top-50 mark in all of college basketball. He also shot 36.4% from downtown and averaged 1.6 steals per game en route to a first team All-Ohio Valley Conference nod.

Green joins College of Charleston transfer Zep Jasper as incoming players for Auburn that have collegiate experience, something Bruce Pearl needed with the departure of Cooper and Justin Powell.
