Jalen Harper, brother of former Auburn Tiger, has joined the squad

The younger brother of Jared Harper is set to join the Auburn basketball team.

Auburn may have gotten a bit of a spark to the basketball team on Memorial Day. Former Auburn point guard [autotag]Jared Harper[/autotag] took to Twitter to post a picture of an Auburn basketball locker with the caption,  “(Jalen Harper) keep it in the family.” Hence, it suggests that [autotag]Bruce Pearl[/autotag] and his coaching staff were able to land Jalen Harper (younger brother of Jared Harper). Jalen also included the Auburn men’s basketball Instagram in his personal bio. In all likelihood, he will be a walk-on on the basketball team.

Jalen signed with Florida Gulf Coast out of Pebblebrook High School. He would spend just one season with the Eagles. As a freshman, he averaged 2.9 points per game and 0.6 rebounds per game. Along with that, he also made two starts. After the season concluded, he transferred to Shelton State Community College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He would average 4.3 points per game while shooting 50% from the floor.

His brother, Jared, spent three seasons on the Plains. He started in 104 games for Bruce Pearl’s squad. Harper averaged 13.5 points per game and 4.8 assists per game. After the conclusion of the 2018-2019 season, he would declare for the NBA draft. Harper went undrafted but ultimately got a two-way contract with the Phoenix Suns. He has played for three different teams thus far — those being the Suns, Pelicans, and Knicks. Currently, he is on a two-way contract with the New Orleans Pelicans and the Birmingham Squadron (G-League).

It will be interesting to see how the younger brother develops at Auburn. He hasn’t seen exclusive playing time and likely won’t with the Tigers. However, he could very well carve up some minutes over time if the opportunity presents itself. We will have to wait and see.

Updated look at 2021-22 Auburn basketball potential starting lineup

Auburn’s roster has undergone a major makeover with key departures and incoming stars. Here’s a look at a potential starting lineup.

It’s been a couple of weeks since we took a look at what Auburn’s basketball roster could look like next season and, boy, it has been busy days for Bruce Pearl and company.

Vaunted guard signee Trey Alexander decided to reopen his commitment and said he won’t be playing with the Tigers now while the future of JT Thor in an Auburn uniform looks shaky as ever.

The NCAA transfer portal has been helpful for the Tigers, though, as they have signed some quality players in North Carolina center Walker Kessler, College of Charleston guard Zep Jasper, Eastern Kentucky guard Wendell Green Jr. and Arkansas guard Desi Sills.

With those additions along with the departures of Sharife Cooper, Justin Powell, Jamal Johnson and Javon Franklin, here’s an updated look at what the lineup could look like along with some key contributors.

There will be a lot of new faces for Auburn fans to get to know when the Tigers take the court on Thursday for its season-opening game against Saint Joe’s in the Fort Myers Tip-Off Classic.

Bruce Pearl saw his top six contributors from last year’s squad either graduate or leave for the NBA Draft, so the team will be young but talented.

Auburn releases updated heights, weights for Tigers basketball roster

The Tigers will be young but talented going into the 2020-21 basketball season.

It seems that football season just started (and frankly, we are just three weeks in so that feeling is correct), but basketball season is about to get ramped up with the start of practice.

Despite losing its top six scorers from last season, the Tigers are reloading as Bruce Pearl signed the ninth-ranked recruiting class in the country including 5-star guard Sharife Cooper.

On Wednesday, Auburn released updated heights and weights for the new roster. Take a look:
