Chris Olave embracing run blocking: ‘Trying to add more to what I can do’

Run blocking is new to Chris Olave, but it’s something he was looking to add to his game. It’s all about being a good teammate:

Going into the offseason, New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave wanted to become a better blocker. When the Saints hired Klint Kubiak to spearhead an offensive change, Olave’s interest fit into an important part of the Saints’ new philosophy on offense.

Look at Kubiak’s most recent home, the San Francisco 49ers. From Brandon Aiyuk to Jauan Jennings, receivers block.

Emphasizing run blocking is new to Olave, but he says “It’s been good. I’m not used blocking. I’m used to catching the ball, running the ball, scoring touchdowns, but that ain’t really been working for us in the winning column.” For the wide receiver, it all comes down to being a good teammate and “Trying to add more to what I can do.”

Olave is on the mission to add more to his skillset to impact the game in multiple ways. That includes when the ball is in the runner’s hands. This would inherently would keep him on the field in nearly every situation.

He spent the time in the weight room for this exact reason, installing a home gym and picking up a new weightlifting regimen to help improve his play strength. Olave emphasized this is something he wanted to do after last season. That’s good to hear because that desire will lead to willingness as a blocker opposed to him simply going through the motions. They say willingness is half the battle, and he’s already won that.

Alabama Football displays new weight room renovations

Alabama football’s weight room got renovated and looks AMAZING. This is great for the team and recruiting!

Alabama Football regularly fields one of the best teams in the nation, and it’s largely due in part to the top-of-the-line facilities. Recently, the program renovated the weight room and conditioning area.

Clips shared to Twitter by the Alabama Football social media show the updated facilities that athletes will have the ability to utilize during their time in Tuscaloosa.

While this is great for current athletes, it also serves as an important recruiting tool to show prospective commits that Alabama offers the best facilities in the country and that the school puts an emphasis on ensuring the program has what it needs to succeed.

The videos detail the upgraded machines, what purpose they serve and the reasoning behind them. There is also a lot of modern tech incorporated in the renovation. This isn’t just about having the prettiest weight room, but the most effective and efficient.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Alabama Football as the 2023 season approaches.

Major Georgia LB target Sammy Brown shows off in weight room

Five-star linebacker Sammy Brown is a major Georgia football target in the 2024 recruiting class. Brown shows off in the weight room here.

Five-star linebacker Sammy Brown is the top player in the state of Georgia, the No. 1 linebacker in the country and the No. 5 player overall in the 2024 recruiting class, according to 247Sports.

Brown (6-foot-2.5, 225 pounds) is not only one of the premier football recruits in America, but also a Jefferson High School wrestling and track champion.

Brown’s athleticism and strength is on full display here in the weight room.

This is an outrageous amount of weight for a high school junior.

It’s easy to see why Brown, who plays linebacker and running back, has garnered so much attention from marquee programs.

The Jefferson, Georgia, native is scheduled to take an official visit to Athens on June 9.

Here’s a look at Brown’s junior season highlight tape.

How Saints players graded the team’s travel strategy, training staff, and more

How Saints players graded the team’s travel strategy, training staff, and more from the NFLPA team report card:

We’ve already gone over the strangely-low grade that New Orleans Saints players gave their team for its cafeteria and nutrition options, but that’s just one area they were surveyed about on the first-ever NFL Players Association team report cards.

Ultimately, the Saints have built a great place to work, with players rating them 10th-best out of the league’s 32 teams — putting an emphasis on quality travel arrangements for road games, an intelligent and resourceful training staff, and good facilities at the team headquarters in Metairie.

But let’s go under the hood on each of the eight categories and where Saints players ranked their workplace around the NFL:

Chargers RB Austin Ekeler helps renovate weight room at Long Beach Poly

Austin Ekeler’s foundation teamed up with the Chargers and Long Beach Poly alumni to renovate the school’s weight room.

While the Chargers’ 2022 season may have ended in disappointment, running back Austin Ekeler teamed up with the franchise to help renovate the weight room at Long Beach Poly, a local high school.

The renovation was also made possible by Poly alumni Jurrell Casey and Juju Smith-Schuster, whose donations helped fund the upgrade.

According to The 562’s Mike Guardabascio, the weight room at Long Beach Poly hasn’t been renovated in more than 70 years, so this much-needed update should be particularly helpful for the school’s athletic programs.

The room is getting a new concrete floor poured to allow modern equipment, as well as new paint, 11 double-squat racks, medicine balls, and a ton of other state-of-the-art equipment. Over 70 teams and close to 2,000 athletes have been using the old facility, which was severely limited in terms of how many athletes could use it at the same time. The football team, for example, needed to cycle four or five groups through when factoring in the lower levels and varsity players. Now the entire varsity team will be able to lift in one session, instead of being split in half.

The Chargers and their players have always prided themselves on the work that they’ve done in their communities over the years, and this latest project is sure to be the first of many to take place over the course of the 2023 offseason.

As the league turns its attention to the NFL Draft and free agency, Ekeler and his foundation will continue finding good deeds to do around Southern California that will make a lasting impact on the area.

WATCH: Wisconsin freshman RB Braelon Allen’s insane max-out lifts

Wisconsin freshman RB Braelon Allen only arrived on campus last month and is already impressing with his hard work in the weight room.

Over the last week, Allen has posted his ridiculous max-out lifts including an insane 610 lb. squat and a 405 lb. power clean. This is extremely impressive to see from a true freshman, especially since he is only 17 years old.

Allen was arguably the most dominant player in Wisconsin high school football last season and with his excellent summer workouts, I wouldn’t be surprised for him to be a contributor for the Badgers this season.
