Buffalo vs UMass Game Preview

Why Buffalo Will Win

The Bulls found their running groove.

They weren’t able to do much on the ground against Miami University, but the defense and passing attack did just enough to get the win, and then came the season-high 280-yard day in the win over Bowling Green.

On a three-game winning streak, the defense is playing better, there aren’t a slew of mistakes, and the team is able to hang on to the ball and control the clock.

However …

NFL Expert Picks, Week 6

Why UMass Will Win

The Buffalo run defense isn’t anything great.

The line isn’t good at getting into the backfield, and Bowling Green is the first team that didn’t hammer away with ease on the ground.

UMass might not be doing a whole slew of things right, but the ground game has been okay and the defense has done a good job of taking the ball away with ten takeaways in the last four games.

However …

What’s Going To Happen

There’s absolutely no UMass passing game for the Bulls to worry about. As long as there aren’t a slew of turnovers for easy points, UB should be able to grind its way to a low-scoring win.

UMass will have its chances, but it won’t be able to keep the chains moving. The O will be on the field for most of the game, but it won’t do anything with the time logged in.

Jaray Jenkins on the significance of LSU-Florida rivalry

Jenkins said the team is treating the contest against the Gators like it’s a normal week.

The last time LSU made the trip to Gainesville, Florida, it was an underdog to the No. 6 Florida Gators, and the Tigers came away with a 37-34 victory, due in part to Marco Wilson flinging a shoe.

I’m sure we will see a replay of that move a lot on ESPN during Saturday night’s game. But what does this rivalry mean to the players on the team now?

A lot of things have changed since then, both teams have a new head coach, and a lot of the players that played in that game either graduated or transferred out. [autotag]Jaray Jenkins[/autotag], a veteran who did make that trip, was asked what he thought about the game.

“You know, it’s a rivalry, but, you know, everybody’s ready for it,” Jaray Jenkins said. “We ain’t worried about it too much like that.”

“We’re just worried about it as the next game on our schedule. We’ve still got to play ball. We’ve still got to do what we do best and we just got to do our assignments and come out with the victory.”

LSU will take on Florida this Saturday night with kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m. CT in Gainesville.

LSU Wire Roundtable: Predictions for Week 7 matchup at Florida

Here’s how we see this weekend’s matchup playing out.

Saturday’s contest between Florida and LSU feels like a must-win for both teams.

Both feature first-year head coaches, and both sit at 4-2 with some positive moments (and some not-so-positives). The Tigers are coming off their worst loss of the season against Tennessee, and they’re trying to avoid a losing streak when they travel to take on a Gators squad that has some issues of its own, namely on defense and in the passing game.

One of these two coaches will wake up Sunday at 5-2 and be feeling good about Year 1. The other will be 4-3 and have a lot to work on. Here’s how our staff sees this one playing out.

Areas of concern ahead of Alabama’s Week 7 matchup against Tennessee

Some areas of concern ahead of Alabama’s Week 7 matchup against the Tennessee Volunteers.

Alabama will have to be up to the test this weekend against an undefeated Tennessee team. This is the first time that the two have both been undefeated up to this point, so it is shaping up to be one of the biggest games in the rivalry’s history.

The Volunteers are led offensively by potential Heisman candidate Hendon Hooker as well as a great nucleus of playmakers surrounding him. On defense, the Volunteers have a stout run defense with good players on the back end as well.

The Crimson Tide have played well this season but will have to answer the call against a Tennessee team that is on the rise. It will be essential for both sides of the ball to play to their best abilities on Saturday afternoon.

Today, Roll Tide Wire will take a look at some of the areas of concern heading into Alabama’s Week 7 matchup against Tennessee.

COLUMN: How much does LSU need this win?

LSU’s gone to Florida with its back against the wall before. How much does it need a win this year?

In 2017, LSU went to Gainesville needing a win. It was fresh off an embarrassing home loss to Troy and had taken a 37-7 beating at the hands of Mississippi State in its lone conference game.

Ed Orgeron, in his first year as head coach, was close to being in some trouble. Well, LSU went to Gainesville and won, beating a Florida team that was ranked at the time.

The following week, LSU upset a top-10 Auburn team and finished the season by winning six of its last seven. The lone loss came in Tuscaloosa.

This isn’t 2017. LSU is not coming off a loss to Troy, and Brian Kelly’s job is more than safe.

This is a full-scale rebuild.

But, it still feels like LSU has its back against the wall here. It entered the Tennessee game at 4-1. Optimism surrounded the program.

A blowout loss has dampened that a bit.

If LSU wants to do something with this season, a win on Saturday is necessary. The loss to Tennessee was OK, despite the lopsided score. The Vols could end up being one of the best teams in the country. We’ll find out when they square off with Alabama on Saturday.

A loss to Florida, though, would be different. Florida is a solid team, but like LSU, it’s rebuilding.

I understand this is a road game and LSU struggled in New Orleans and Auburn this year, but LSU needs to come out in this game and compete.

If LSU loses, the Tigers will sit at 4-3 with its next two games coming against opponents ranked in the top 10. There’s a good chance LSU would be under .500, a far cry from 4-1.

This is the type of game you need to win while rebuilding. When you have chances to get wins, you need to capitalize. Florida is probably thinking the same thing.

If we see another sloppy game, I will begin to think it’s a reflection of this coaching staff. Kelly has shown the ability to make adjustments. This is when he needs to show he can make a few more.

I think LSU will. Florida’s run game is tough to stop, but on defense, the Gators have struggled.

I believe we might see LSU’s passing attack have a breakout game this weekend. We saw some big plays last week and LSU has a chance to build on it this week.

The pressure is on. LSU has stepped up in big moments this year, but a complete game from start to finish is yet to be seen.

We’ll see if Kelly can finally get that out of his group in the Swamp.

Navy vs SMU Game Preview

Why Navy Will Win

The team needed to pivot, and it did it.

Navy was going nowhere, the offense wasn’t working, the team lost to Delaware to start and couldn’t get anything working against Memphis, and now it won two of the last three with an explosion in the 53-21 win over Tulsa.

That’s how the ground game should work. It’s been more precise, the O line is playing better, and the team is controlling the clock.

On the flip side, SMU is 103rd in the nation against the run, it’s allowing everyone to hit passes – Navy won’t throw, but if it hits three big throws, that will be enough – and …

NFL Expert Picks, Week 6

Why SMU Will Win

Navy can be thrown on.

The Tulsa offense sputtered and struggled in last week’s loss, but the passing game went for 284 yards, Memphis bombed away for over 400, and overall the Midshipmen pass D is among the worst in the country.

SMU is going to throw for over 300 yards, because that’s what SMU does. It might be on a three-game losing streak, but going against Maryland, TCU, and UCF is part of the reason why. Navy might be playing better, but it’s not one of those three, and …

– Schedules, Previews CollegeNFL

What’s Going To Happen

It might come down to Navy converting off mistakes.

Along with the running game working better last week the four takeaways made the difference. Navy has come up with eight turnovers in the last three games, and it’ll generate two in this.

It won’t be enough, though, as SMU perks back up at home, gets the passing game going from the start, and the season kicks after a rough few weeks.

UTSA vs FIU Game Preview

Why UTSA Will Win

As long as the Roadrunners don’t have any turnover issues they should have this without much of a problem.

The offense is balanced when it has to be, Frank Harris and the passing game are rock solid, and it shouldn’t take too many points to put this away against a FIU offense that doesn’t put points on the board.

The Panthers are able to throw it a bit, but they don’t keep the chains moving, there’s absolutely no downfield passing, and they aren’t able to take advantage of opportunities when they get them.

FIU’s defense hasn’t come up with a takeaway in the last two games, but …

NFL Expert Picks, Week 6

Why FIU Will Win

UTSA can be a little loose at times.

It turned the ball over five times in a two-game span, there was a penalty problem early in the year, and FIU will attack up front to at least apply a little pressure.

For all of the good things the Roadrunners do, they don’t do much to come up with third down stops and it’s possible to throw on this group – FIU has to keep pressing with the midrange throws.

Granted, playing New Mexico State and UConn isn’t a big deal, but the Panther secondary held up well.

– Schedules, Previews CollegeNFL

What’s Going To Happen

UTSA will methodically get the offense going right away with two first quarter touchdown drives, and everything will fall into place from there.

FIU will get over 200 yards through the air, but it’ll stall on too many early drives and will buckle against the run as the game goes on.

UTSA’s defense will give up a few points in the second half, but it’ll have this well in hand.

Behind Enemy Lines: Gators Wire breaks down Week 7 matchup against Florida

Gators Wire’s Adam Dubbin helped us preview this week’s matchup against UF.

LSU doesn’t have much time to lick its wounds after suffering a tough 40-13 home loss to the Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday. The Tigers hit the road this weekend for the second time to take on a Florida Gators team that also sits at 4-2 and is coming off its first SEC win of the year.

Both programs feature first-year head coaches in [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] and Billy Napier, and considering the fact that some thought LSU should have given Napier a look, it seems inevitable that these two hires and tenures will be inextricably linked.

To get the breakdown of the first matchup between the two, we went to Gators Wire editor Adam Dubbin to get the lowdown on this UF team.

Five things to know about the Florida Gators heading into Saturday’s matchup

LSU will head to Gainesville to take on a Florida team with a lot in common.

LSU is set to travel to Gainesville to face the Florida Gators in The Swamp. As is usually the case when these teams meet, there’s no shortage of storylines.

It’s a meeting of first-year head coaches. Prior to taking over at Florida, Billy Napier spent the last four years at Louisiana enjoying a good run with the Rajun Cajuns. Some thought that LSU should have given him a look, but he was never seriously considered, and the Tigers opted for [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag].

I don’t believe Saturday night is any sort of referendum, but there will be one somewhere along the line, and if Napier’s tenure at Florida outdoes Kelly’s, then LSU is going to have a hard time living that down.

With that in mind, here are five things you should know about the Gators prior to kickoff on Saturday night.

Brian Kelly isn’t worried about the Swamp’s hostile environment this weekend

Kelly said the team will be ready for the crowd at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

Two weeks ago, LSU traveled to its first true road game of the year when it made a trip down to the plains to play Auburn. LSU came out on the good side of that gam with a win.

The Tigers are going to have to play a lot better, though, if they want to beat Anthony Richardson and the Florida Gators in the Swamp. At the beginning of the season, Florida looked like it could be a potential SEC Championship contender as they defeated Utah at home.

Since then, things have cooled off in Gainesville, and the Gators nearly lost to Missouri last week. [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] was asked during his time with the media what he thought about playing in the Swamp.

“I think crowd noise has been OK for us,” Kelly said. “We seem to be a little bit more focused and locked in when we get that. You hate to talk in terms of when you turn the music on and you get real loud, the guys pay attention more.

“But the fact of the matter is they did a nice job in their preparation for Auburn and they’re going to have to do that here for Florida because you’re right, it’s a crazy environment and they’re going to have to be locked in this week.”

Saturday’s game against the Gators is scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m. CT.
