Wizards at Hornets picks and predictions

Prediction

Hornets 108, Wizards 103

Moneyline

With the Wizards not having G Bradley Beal available due to him being in the health and safety protocols, give me HORNETS (-135) at home. Meanwhile, G Terry Rozier returned for Charlotte in the team’s last game and Washington has struggled against guards this season.

Against the spread

HORNETS -2.5 (-105) is where I’m leaning in this game with Charlotte just needing to win by one 3-pointer to cover the spread. This spread could slightly change if Smith can suit up for the Hornets on Monday.

The Wizards are 0-4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following an ATS win and they are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 meetings against the Hornets in Charlotte. Washington is also 1-6 ATS in its last 7 meetings with Charlotte.

Over/Under

With each team missing core players, I’ll take UNDER 217.5 (-112) for this game. The Wizards went Under by 24 points in Sunday’s matchup against the Grizzlies without Beal while the Hornets went Under by 31 points in their last game against the Nets.

The Under is 6-1-1 in Charlotte’s last 8 home games. On top of that, the Under is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings in Charlotte and the Under is 6-1 in the last 7 meetings overall between the Wizards and the Hornets.

Philadelphia 76ers at Washington Wizards odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Philadelphia 76ers at Washington Wizards odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Philadelphia 76ers (3-4) take on the Washington Wizards (3-3) Monday at the Capital One Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the 76ers vs. Wizards odds, and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

The 76ers got off to a slow start with a 1-4 record, but they’ve been able to string together 2 straight road wins over the Chicago Bulls Friday and the Toronto Raptors Saturday.

Philadelphia has gotten improved play from G Tyrese Maxey recently as he’s converted 15-of-26 three-point attempts with an average of 29.7 points over his last 3 games.

Meanwhile, the Wizards got off to a nice 3-1 record but they’ve lost 2 straight games to the Indiana Pacers Friday and the Boston Celtics Sunday. All 3 losses by Washington this season have been by 10 or more points, including a 117-107 overtime loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers Oct. 23 where it failed to cover as a 3.5-point underdog.

76ers at Wizards picks and predictions

Prediction

76ers 110, Wizards 103

Moneyline

AVOID.

I wouldn’t recommend taking the 76ers (-190) on the moneyline as a standalone bet at the current odds. The only way I would take Philadelphia’s moneyline is if it’s included in a parlay.

Against the spread

76ERS -4.5 (-108) is where I’m leaning despite Embiid being questionable. Philadelphia was able to defeat Toronto 112-90 as a 3.5-point underdog without Embiid on the court Friday.

Over/Under

Considering that both of these teams play at a slower pace, I’ll take UNDER 217.5 (-105). The 76ers play at the slowest pace in the NBA while the Wizards play at the 9th-slowest pace.

Philadelphia has gone Under in 6 of its last 7 games when coming off 1 day of rest. Washington has hit the Under in each of its last 5 games following an ATS loss.

Detroit Pistons at Washington Wizards odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Detroit Pistons at Washington Wizards odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Detroit Pistons (1-2) face the Washington Wizards (2-1) Tuesday at the Capital One Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Pistons vs. Wizards odds, and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

The Pistons were unable to cover the spread as 1.5-point underdogs against the Indiana Pacers in a 125-114 defeat Saturday, giving them 2 consecutive losses. Rookie G Jaden Ivey has been impressive with an average of 17.7 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists per game on 45.5% shooting from 3-point range through the first 3 games of his career.

The Wizards are also coming off a loss as they failed to cover the spread as 3.5-point underdogs in a 117-107 overtime loss at the Cleveland Cavaliers Sunday. F Kyle Kuzma has been productive, recording 19.7 points, 7 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game on 40% shooting from beyond the arc.

Pistons at Wizards picks and predictions

Prediction

Wizards 115, Pistons 108

Moneyline

Considering that I have the Wizards winning at home, PASS on the moneyline in this game. Washington’s current odds to win aren’t worth taking due to the risk and minimal return you’ll receive if they come away with a victory.

Against the spread

WIZARDS -5.5 (-101) is where I’m leaning in this game with G Bradley Beal healthy for Washington. While I believe the Pistons could have some success this season, they need time to build chemistry with such a young roster.

The Pistons are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 meetings with the Wizards in Washington.

Over/Under

Despite the Wizards being top-10 in defensive efficiency in the first 3 games of the season, neither of these teams is defense-oriented. Give me OVER 221.5 (-117) as we should see plenty of scoring opportunities.

The Pistons have hit the Over in each of their last 7 games overall and they’ve achieved the Over in 4 straight following an ATS loss.

Portland Trail Blazers at Washington Wizards odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Portland Trail Blazers at Washington Wizards and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Portland Trail Blazers (16-25) travel to the nation’s capital Saturday to play the Washington Wizards (22-20). The tip-off at the Capital One Arena is set for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Trail Blazers vs. Wizards odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

Portland (+11.5) got hammered by the Nuggets 140-108 in Denver Thursday, snapping a two-game winning streak (2-0 ATS). The Trail Blazers are 15-25-1 ATS and 19-21-1 O/U with the toughest strength of schedule.

Washington won its third consecutive game Wednesday after beating the Orlando Magic 112-106 but failed to cover as 6.5-point home favorites. The Wizards are 18-23-1 ATS and 22-19-1 O/U with the 15th-toughest schedule.

Trail Blazers at Wizards odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Trail Blazers 114, Wizards 111

Money line

Slight “LEAN” to the TRAIL BLAZERS (+250) for a tiny wager, if at all, because both Portland’s spread and money line is mispriced.

The Trail Blazers are bad, and there are several reasons to bet against Portland such as trends, the injury report, etc. But, the Wizards aren’t as good as their record indicates.

In fact, Washington has the third-highest win differential based on adjusted net rating at plus-3.3 (CTG), and a negative net rating despite a winning record. Basically, the Wizards have three more wins than it should.

Furthermore, Trail Blazers PG Anfernee Simons has been ballin’ out since debuting the starting lineup five games ago.

Over that span, Simons is scoring 27.8 points on 51.1% shooting (44.6% from behind the arc) with 7.6 assists against just 2.8 turnovers per game.

Also, the Wizards will be without All-Star Bradley Beal, which means F Kyle Kuzma will have his role expanded.

Kuzma is going off in January; he’s averaging 26.4 points on 54.7% shooting with 11.9 rebounds per game this month.

But, Portland has a couple of athletic wings to throw at Kuzma – such as forwards Nassir Little and Robert Covington.

The bottom line is Simons will light up Wizards PG Spencer Dinwiddie, Little and Covington should reduce Kuzma’s effectiveness.

Again, only SPRINKLE on the TRAIL BLAZERS (+250) and bet more on Portland’s spread since that’s the sharper play.

Against the spread

Definitely BET the TRAIL BLAZERS +6.5 (-102) heavier than or instead of their money line as a fade against this overpriced Washington team.

Granted, Portland’s ATS trends in this spot aren’t pretty. But, the Trail Blazers are getting bet by sharp money, and there’s no way the Wizards -6.5 (-122) is a good bet.

Washington is 0-5 ATS in its last five games, 1-6 ATS when laying 5-7 points and 6-12-1 ATS versus teams with a losing record. More importantly, 75% of the public is betting on the Wizards, according to Pregame.com.

The TRAIL BLAZERS +6.5 (-102) is my favorite wager in this game.

Over/Under

PASS because I’m shaken by how low this total is and its reverse line movement. According to Pregame.com, roughly 85% of the action is on the Over, but this total has ticked down from the 217.5-point opener. Also, both teams play at a below-average pace, and each is missing an All-Star.

Washington Wizards at Chicago Bulls odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Friday’s Washington Wizards at Chicago Bulls and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Washington Wizards (19-19) travel to the Windy City Friday for an 8 p.m. ET game against the Chicago Bulls (25-10) at the United Center. Below, we look at the Wizards vs. Bulls odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

Washington has alternated between winning and losing in the last five games with the latest being a 114-111 loss to the Houston Rockets at home as 7-point favorites.

Over the past two weeks, the Wizards are 3-4 straight-up (SU), 5-2 ATS and 5-2 O/U with the 17th-ranked non-garbage time net rating at plus-0.2 points per 100 possessions, according to CleaningTheGlass.com (CTG).

Chicago has won eight straight games, which includes two straight buzzer-beater victories by Bulls wing DeMar DeRozan, one over the Wizards, 120-119, New Year’s Day.

In the last 14 days, Chicago is 6-0 SU, 3-3 ATS and 3-3 O/U with the sixth-best non-garbage time net rating at plus-6.7 points per 100 possessions, per CTG.

Wizards at Bulls odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Wizards 114, Bulls 109

Money line

SPRINKLE on the WIZARDS (+225) for a tiny wager, if at all, because I like Washington plus the points enough where I’ll sprinkle on the underdog’s money line.

The Bulls (-290) has won its last three games by a combined seven points, two of which were by DeRozan buzzer-beaters. Also, these teams met this past weekend, and it’s hard beating the same team twice in a short period.

Furthermore, Chicago has top-heavy production so if either DeRozan or Zach LaVine have an off-shooting night, the Bulls are in trouble. Chicago’s bench scores the second-fewest points per game (PPG) at 26.3 PPG whereas Washington’s bench scores the seventh-most at 37.2 PPG.

On top of that, the Wizards could be getting back a sneaky crucial piece in Harrell, and PGs Spencer Dinwiddie and Raul Neto returned for Washington last game.

The return of these players just pads Washington’s edge in depth over Chicago. Plus Harrell and Neto are second and third in adjusted on/off net rating on the Wizards roster.

Again, the plan is to bet Chicago plus the points heavier, but I’ll SPRINKLE on the WIZARDS (+225).

Against the spread

Definitely BET the WIZARDS +6.5 (-110) heavier than, or instead of, their money line.

The Bulls -6.5 (-110) are the hottest team in the NBA, but they haven’t covered in their last three wins. On the other hand, the Wizards are treading water but have covered six of their last eight games.

Moreover, Washington is 5-0 ATS in its last five games versus teams with a winning record and 4-0 ATS following a loss. The bottom line is this is a good time to sell high on the Bulls and buy low on the Wizards.

The WIZARDS +6.5 (-110) is my favorite wager in this game.

Over/Under

“LEAN” to the OVER 222.5 (-112) because there are several trends supporting a bet on the Over in this spot.

For example, Washington has gone Over the total in five of their last six games as a road underdog, Chicago has gone Over the total in 14 of their last 19 games played on three or more rest days and the first Wizards-Bulls meeting Saturday soared Over the total by 18 points.

However, my favorite bet in this game are the Washington sides so I wouldn’t hit the total too hard here.

Charlotte Hornets at Washington Wizards odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Monday’s Charlotte Hornets at Washington Wizards and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Charlotte Hornets (19-18) head to the nation’s capital Monday for a 7 p.m. ET tip-off against the Washington Wizards (18-18) at Capital One Arena. Below, we look at the Hornets vs. Wizards odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

This is the second of a back-to-back for Charlotte who lost to the Phoenix Suns 133-99 as a 1.5-point underdog Sunday.

The Hornets are 3-3 straight-up (SU), 4-2 ATS and 1-5 O/U in the last 14 days with the 23rd-ranked non-garbage time net rating at minus-6.4 points per 100 possessions, according to CleaningTheGlass.com (CTG).

Washington lost but covered in a 120-119 heartbreaker to the Chicago Bulls Saturday thanks to a Bulls’ DeMar DeRozan game-winning 3-pointer as time expired.

The Wizards are 2-3 SU, 4-1 ATS and 4-1 O/U over the last two weeks with the 16th-ranked adjusted net rating at plus-0.1 points per 100 possessions (CTG).

Hornets at Wizards odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Wizards 116, Hornets 110

Money line

“LEAN” to the WIZARDS (-130) because the Hornets cannot play any defense and this is a better spot for Washington who has covered five of its last six games, including three straight.

The Wizards rank sixth in field goal percentage and the Hornets have the fifth-worst defensive field goal percentage and the fourth-worst non-garbage time defense rating (CTG).

Washington also performs well at home and against good teams. The Wizards are 10-5 ATS at home and 6-3 ATS at home versus teams with a winning record.

Furthermore, Charlotte is 0-7 SU and 2-5 ATS on the second of a back-to-back with a minus-3.1 ATS margin. While this is technically the “money line” section, these ATS trends are applicable since this game is priced as a coin-flip.

My hesitation with betting the WIZARDS (-130) heavier in this spot is the Hornets are the far healthier team and Charlotte is 5-0 ATS in the last five games against Washington.

Against the spread

PASS since Washington’s money line is only 10 cents on the dollar more expensive than the Wizards -1.5 (-120) so there’d be no use in laying the points in the first place.

Over/Under

PASS with a slight “lean” to the Under 231.5 (-112) since the Under has cashed in five consecutive Hornets-Wizards meetings. However, Charlotte is 5-2 O/U with a plus-19.9 total margin when playing on zero rest days and has gone Under the total in five straight games.

The Chicago Bulls (23-10) head to the nation’s capital on New Year’s Day for a 7 p.m. ET tip-off against the Washington Wizards (18-17) at Capital One Arena. Below, we look at the Bulls vs. Wizards odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

Chicago enters on a six-game winning streak (4-2 ATS and 4-2 O/U) with the second-best non-garbage time net rating at plus-10.1 points per 100 possessions over the past two weeks, according to CleaningTheGlass.com (CTG).

Washington broke a two-game losing streak with a 110-93 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers Thursday. In the last 14 days, the Wizards are 3-2 straight-up (SU), 4-1 ATS, and 3-2 O/U with the 14th-ranked adjusted net rating at plus-1.4 points per 100 possessions (CTG).

Bulls at Wizards odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Wizards 109, Bulls 106

Money line

PASS with a heavy “lean” to the Wizards (+105) because I like them to cover the spread and generally will “sprinkle” on an underdog’s money line when betting them to cover.

However, Washington’s money line would need to be priced north of +125 for me to take a shot with the Wizards outright.

Against the spread

BET the WIZARDS +2.5 (-115) because even though all the money is on the Bulls -2.5 (-107), Washington is the more expensive team and this is a good spot for the Wizards.

For instance, according to Pregame.com and the Yahoo! Sports app, roughly 80% of the action is on Chicago but, if anything, Washington is getting pricier.

This type of reverse line move is a red flag in sports betting. Why would the sportsbooks make the more popular side cheaper? Hmmm.

Furthermore, Washington is 4-2 SU and ATS as a home underdog, 4-2 ATS when getting spotted 1-2.5 points and 5-3 ATS at home vs. teams with a winning record.

Also, the Wizards are 8-6 SU vs. teams in the top-10 of adjusted net rating with the eighth-best adjusted net rating and the seventh-best spread differential (CTG).

BET the WIZARDS +2.5 (-115) for 1 unit.

Over/Under

“LEAN” to the UNDER 221.5 (-112) for a quarter unit as a fade against a market that’s hammering into the Over.

According to Pregame.com, nearly 85% of the money is on the Over, which has steamed the total up from the 216.5-point opener. My instinct in sports betting is fade lopsided betting markets and this drastic of line movement.

However, I can only “LEAN” to the UNDER 221.5 (-112) because the Bulls are 7-3 O/U as a road favorite (plus-5.4 total margin) and the Wizards are 3-2-1 O/U as a home underdog (plus-5.7 total margin).

Washington Wizards at Miami Heat odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Tuesday’s Washington Wizards at Miami Heat and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Washington Wizards (17-16) travel to South Beach Tuesday to play the Miami Heat (21-13) at FTX Arena. The tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Wizards vs. Heat odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

Miami enters on a three-game winning streak with victories over the Indiana Pacers, Detroit Pistons, and Orlando Magic.

Over the past two weeks, the Heat are 5-2 straight-up (SU), 3-4 ATS and 3-4 O/U with the eighth-best non-garbage time net rating (plus-4.7 points per 100 possessions), according to CleaningTheGlass.com (CTG).

Washington got clobbered 117-96 by the Philadelphia 76ers Sunday as 4-point home underdogs. The Wizards are 2-4 SU, 2-4 ATS and 4-2 O/U in the last 14 days with the 26th-ranked adjusted net rating (minus-9.1 points per 100 possessions), per CTG.

This is the regular-season rubber match between these teams with the home team winning and covering the first two meetings, and either side of the total cashing in each contest.

Wizards at Heat odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Heat 107, Wizards 95

Money line

PASS since I like Miami to win outright but not enough to lay it with the Heat (-260). However, Miami wing Jimmy Butler returned from an eight-game absence in the Heat’s last game vs. the Magic.

Before his injury, Butler was playing at an All-NBA-caliber. Butler is third in PER, Win Shares per 48 and box plus/minus. Furthermore, Butler is averaging 30.5 points per game on 57.9% shooting with a plus-29 net rating vs. the Wizards this season.

Against the spread

BET 1 unit on the HEAT -6.5 (-107) because they’ve been hit by sharp money early and this is a better spot for Miami.

For instance, this game opened with the Heat laying 6 points but is increasing due to pro-Miami action. Both teams are missing a bunch of players due to COVID but that’s already accounted for in the line.

With that in mind, the Heat are 5-1 ATS at home vs. teams with a winning record. While the Wizards are 6-13-1 ATS on the road and 1-4-1 ATS when being spotted 5-7 points.

Over/Under

“LEAN” to the UNDER 208.5 (-107) since we are getting reverse line movement despite most of the situation-based trends suggesting Wizards-Heat would be a low-scoring game.

According to both Pregame.com and the Yahoo! Sports app, a vast majority of the money is on the Over, but the total for this game has been lowered from the 210-point lookahead number.

Philadelphia 76ers at Washington Wizards odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Sunday’s Philadelphia 76ers at Washington Wizards and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Philadelphia 76ers (16-16) travel to the nation’s capital to play the Washington Wizards (17-15) at the Capital One Arena. The tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the 76ers vs. Wizards odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

Philly was upset, 98-96, as 11-point home favorites Thursday by a COVID-ravaged Atlanta Hawks.

Over the past two weeks, the Sixers are 1-4 straight-up (SU), 1-4 ATS and 2-3 O/U with the third-worst non-garbage time net rating (minus-8.9 points per 100 possessions), according to CleaningTheGlass.com (CTG).

Washington has won back-to-back road games over the Utah Jazz, 109-103, Dec. 18, and the New York Knicks, 124-117, Thursday.

The Wizards are 2-3 SU, 2-3 ATS and 3-2 O/U in the last 14 days with the 25th-ranked non-garbage time net rating (minus-6.6 points per 100 possessions), per CTG.

76ers at Wizards odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Wizards 105, 76ers 102

Money line

Slight “LEAN” to the WIZARDS (+135) for a tiny wager, if at all, because the 76ers (-170) putting up a stinker after Christmas feels like a Philly-thing. Objectively, at this point, the Sixers have been disappointing.

Through 32 games, Washington is the sixth seed and Philly is the seventh in the East but why aren’t the Sixers a top-4 seed? Perhaps Philly needs Ben Simmons more than the market is accounting for.

For instance, the Sixers are priced as a team that’ll have a home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs. But, they are playing like a team vying for a postseason play-in seed.

The preferred and wiser wager is Washington plus the points but I’ll “SPRINKLE” on the WIZARDS (+135).

Against the spread

Definitely BET the WIZARDS +3.5 (-107) heavier than or instead of the money line.

Washington has covered its last four games following a road trip of seven or more days and five of its past six as a home underdog. Also, Philly has failed to cover its past nine games as a favorite.

Furthermore, this feels like a trap spot for Philly who are favored just 3.5 vs. a Wizards team missing their leading scorer.

However, Washington actually plays better when Beal is off the floor; Beal has a minus-4.7 points per 100 possessions on/off net rating, per CTG.

The ball moves better when Beal is out of the game, and Washington is low-key deep. The Wizards’ bench scores the fourth-most points per game (PPG) at 38.9 whereas the Sixers’ bench puts up just 29.2 PPG (ranked 26th).

GIMME the WIZARDS +3.5 (-107) coming back from a long road trip vs. a Sixers squad that continually underperforms in this spot.

Over/Under

Slight “LEAN” to the UNDER 208.5 (-110) for a quarter-unit since the presumed sharp side of the market is backing the Under while the public is rolling with the Over (according to Pregame.com), and both teams play at a bottom-six pace.

Also, Philly games have gone Under the total at the third-highest rate in the Association despite the Sixers ranking just 20th in defensive rating. Philly just has a habit of playing in slow, clunky rock-fights.

Washington Wizards at Utah Jazz odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Washington Wizards at Utah Jazz odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Washington Wizards (15-15) continue their road trip Saturday night. The fourth game of their six-game road trip is Saturday against the Utah Jazz (20-8). Tip-off is at 9 p.m. ET at Vivint Smart Home Arena. Below, we look at the Wizards vs. Jazz odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

The Wizards have not had a good road trip. They have lost four in a row and the first three games of their current road trip, increasing the amount by which they lost each game. Their most recent game was a 118-98 loss to the Phoenix Suns. They have lost seven of their last eight games.

The Jazz had an eight-game winning streak end Friday night with a 128-126. Spurs G Lonnie Walker hit the game-winning shot with 14.9 seconds left in the game. Jazz G Donovan Mitchell missed two go-ahead shots in the final seconds. They have won 10 games each at home and on the road this season.

Wizards at Jazz odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Jazz 121, Wizards 104

Money line

PASS on the money line. The Jazz are the far superior team and are playing very well as of late, but it isn’t worth having to bet six times what you can win.

Meanwhile, a bet on the Wizards, while potentially very profitable, is not a smart bet. They are 7-11 on the road and 5-6 against Western Conference teams.

Against the spread

The Wizards are now 12-17-1 ATS, the fourth-worst ATS record in the NBA right now. They have failed to cover the spread in eight straight games.

The Jazz are 16-12 ATS on the season and are 6-3 ATS in their last nine games. They are 8-7 ATS at home but 3-1 ATS when they play the second night of a back-to-back like tonight.

Take the JAZZ -9.5 (-115).

Over/Under

Eight of the last 11 games for the Wizards have gone Over the projected total. Seven of the last nine for the Jazz have hit the Over.

The Jazz have averaged 125.4 points a game over their last nine and have not scored fewer than 109 points. If Utah reaches 120, then the Wizards just need to hit 102, which is very possible. They have scored at least that much in four of their last six games, all losses but one.

Take OVER 222.5 (-115).
