The Washington Commanders and New York Jets open their preseasons Saturday. Kickoff from MetLife Stadium is scheduled for 12 p.m. ET (NFL+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Commanders vs. Jets odds, and make our expert NFL picks and predictions.

Washington announced that No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft QB Jayden Daniels will start Saturday. We will see QB Marcus Mariota and QB Sam Hartman take snaps as well. The Commanders finished last season 4-13, losing their last 8 games.

We will likely not see QB Aaron Rodgers at all in the preseason, as he hasn’t played a snap since rupturing his left Achilles Sept. 11, 2023. The Jets finished 7-10 despite losing their starting quarterback in Week 1.

Commanders at Jets picks and predictions

Prediction

Jets 17, Commanders 10

Moneyline

You know it is nearly impossible to pick a preseason game with so many variables at play, but I like the depth of the JETS (+130). They are a team that is ready to win now behind a future Hall of Fame QB. New York will start veteran QB Tyrod Taylor, who knows Washington very well having played for the New York Giants just last season.

We don’t know exactly how much playing time the Commanders will give Daniels Saturday afternoon. This is a team with 30 new players on its roster, one of the biggest overhauls in the NFL. Washington will likely need time to mesh together.

BET JETS (+130).

Against the spread

Betting the spread? Preseason games are too volatile to get reasonable trends. Neither team will show all its schemes on offense or defense. Starters will only play a portion of the game, if at all.

PASS.

Over/Under

When it comes to betting totals in the preseason, I almost always go with the Under because these teams are not showing anything offensively. These games are glorified practices, and they are just hoping to make it through without an injury.

BET UNDER 34.5 (-110).
