Warriors rookie Quinten Post scores 10 points in Summer League debut

In his Summer League debut for the Warriors, rookie Quinten Post notched 10 points off the bench against the Thunder.

While the Golden State Warriors have been streaking through the NBA Summer League with six consecutive wins, they have been missing their lone member of the 2024 NBA draft class.

In the second round, the Warriors selected sharpshooting big man Quinten Post out of Boston College. Post missed the first six games of the Summer League due to a minor injury in his lower left leg. After a six-game absence, Post made his highly anticipated debut in blue and gold.

Coming off the bench, Post played 15 minutes against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The 7-foot Australian tallied 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the field with a pair of triples. Post added three rebounds, a steal and an assist against the Thunder.

The Golden State Warriors finally got to Trayce Jackson-Davis on July 13. Mike Dunleavy selected Jackson-Davis 57th pick in the 2023 NBA draft, however, the rookie has missed most of summer league due to a hamstring injury. Fortunately, Golden State’s rookie finally made his debut in the 118-101 loss to the Houston Rockets.

Despite missing the majority of summer league, Jackson-Davis still managed to make a good impression against Houston. Playing at the center position, Jackson-Davis logged 20 minutes of playing time, scoring 14 points, and securing 7 rebounds, on 66.7% shooting from the field.

Following the game, Jackson-Davis’ collegiate coach from Indiana University, Mike Woodson, discussed how he expects his former player to adjust to the NBA game and grow into a role with Golden State.

“He has the size, the body, the smartness — there isn’t anything he can’t do on the basketball court,” Woodson told C.J. Holmes of the San Francisco Chronicle in an exclusive interview. “These scouts, these coaches in the NBA, they ask me what’s the best part about him. The best part is that he can do a little bit of everything…Right now he will finish at the rim with both hands. He can handle the ball. He sees people when they’re open. He rebounds. He blocks shots. What more can you want?”

Despite acquiring Dario Saric over the past week, the Warriors are still short on size. As such, Jackson-Davis has a realistic path to legitimate playing time in the upcoming season if he can move past his current hamstring injury. Since becoming one of the most dominant dynasties the NBA has ever seen, the Warriors’ track record for developing young talent has left much to be desired.

Things could be different with Jackson-Davis, though. The rookie forward/center has an opportunity to play right away and will have some of the game’s greatest players around him to help guide and nurture his talent and approach to the game at the professional level. Of course, Dunleavy could acquire another big man via free agency before the start of the season.

As such, Jackson-Davis has between now and the end of training camp to prove he’s deserving of a role within the rotation.

The Golden State Warriors rookie is reportedly set to make his summer league debut.

On June 22, the Golden State Warriors selected Trayce Jackson-Davis with the 57th pick in the NBA Draft. Unfortunately, Warriors fans have been unable to see what their latest recruit has to offer as he has been dealing with a hamstring injury. Without Jackson-Davis in the rotation, Golden State’s summer league roster has fallen to an 0-and-3 record in Las Vegas.

Despite the losses, Lester Quinones and Brandin Podziemski have both impressed, with the latter showing flashes of the potential that saw the Warriors select him with the 19th overall pick. Fortunately, Warriors fans won’t have to wait any longer to see Jackson-Davis in action. According to Bleacher Report’s Jason Dumas, Golden State’s second-round pick will make his summer league debut against the Houston Rockets on July 13.

The news that Jackson-Davis will be making his debut on July 13 shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise, as the rookie was seen working out with the Warriors earlier in the week.

Jackon-Davis spent last season plying his trade with the Indiana Hoosiers, where he participated in 32 games, averaging 20.9 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 4 assists, shooting 58.1% from the field and 69.5% from the free-throw line.

Now that Jackson-Davis will be on the court for the Warriors’ summer league roster, he will provide size and interior scoring while likely making a significant impact on the defensive glass and as a rim protector.

Golden State is currently short on players with size. As such, Jakson-Davis could be auditioning for a potential spot in Steve Kerr’s regular-season rotation. Although the Warriors have been cautious when looking to add young talent into the rotation in recent years.

For now, though, fans will be hoping to see Jackson-Davis complete the game without any further setbacks and potentially make a decent impact in his first game in Las Vegas.

Warriors drop Las Vegas Summer League opener vs. Knicks despite 34 points from Moses Moody

Despite 34 points from Moses Moody, the Warriors dropped their Las Vegas Summer League opener to the Knicks, 101-88.

After dropping all three games of the California Classic at San Francisco’s Chase Center, the Golden State Warriors took a trip to the desert for the annual Las Vegas Summer League.

Despite the move to Las Vegas, the Warriors’ Summer League struggles continued in Sin City against the New York Knicks in the opener.

After the Knicks grabbed an early six-point lead in the first quarter, the Warriors battled back in the second quarter. However, Golden State’s defense couldn’t keep up with Quinten Grimes. The 2021 first-round pick out of Houston led the Knicks with 24 points on 8-of-21 shooting from the floor with eight assists and four boards in 32 minutes.

Along with Grimes, four other members of the Knicks tallied double-figure scoring on the way to a 101-88 victory in favor of New York.

Following their loss to the Knicks on Friday, the Warriors will meet the San Antonio Spurs at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. PT.
