Warriors could be best fit for Paul George?

Kendrick Perkins believes the Golden State Warriors could be the best fit for Paul George.

The Golden State Warriors are being heavily linked with a potential move to acquire Paul George. The All-Star forward is expected to opt out of his player option for next season to hit free agency, which opens at 6 PM ET on Sunday (June 30). The Warriors face competition from the Philadelphia 76ers and LA Clippers.

According to former NBA Champion Kendrick Perkins, who spoke on a recent episode of ESPN’s NBA Today, the Warriors could hold a slight advantage in pursuing George. He believes Steve Kerr’s team is the best fit for George’s skillset and could help him contend for a championship in the near future.

George has struggled to stay healthy in recent seasons. As such, the Warriors should be cautious when deciding whether they want to add him to their rotation ahead of the new season. Nevertheless, when healthy, he would be a major upgrade on the wing.

Should Klay Thompson be upset with Warriors pursuit of Paul George?

Jeff Teague believes Klay Thompson should be upset with the Golden State Warriors pursuit of Paul George.

The Golden State Warriors are rumored to be interested in acquiring Paul George. The veteran forward is expected to opt out of his player option for next season, which would see him enter unrestricted free agency on Sunday (June 30). Golden State’s pursuit of George could potentially spell the end of Klay Thompson’s tenure with the franchise.

In a recent episode of the “Club 520 Podcast,” former NBA guard Jeff Teague noted how Thompson should be annoyed with the Warrior’s pursuit of George, especially as they haven’t begun to negotiate with Thompson over a potential contract to remain in the Bay Area.

Thompson is rumored to be attracting interest from the Dallas Mavericks, Denver Nuggets, Orlando Magic and Oklahoma City Thunder. As such, the Warriors could potentially lose their four-time champion in the coming days or weeks.

Warriors have the trade assets to acquire Paul George

Mike Dunleavy Jr. believes the Golden State Warriors have enough assets to land a star-level player via trade.

The Golden State Warriors are rumored to be interested in Paul George. The veteran forward is expected to opt out of his player option for the upcoming season and enter unrestricted free agency. The LA Clippers are undoubtedly keen on re-signing him. However, the Warriors and Philadelphia 76ers are both rumored alternatives, should George want a fresh start.

During a recent appearance on “The TK Show,” Mike Dunleavy Jr. admitted that Golden State has the necessary trade assets to secure Paul George if he becomes available.  He stopped short of admitting the Warriors’ interest in George but did not think the Warriors were positioned to make a big trade if the opportunity arose.

“I think it’s possible because we have the assets to do so,” Dunleavy said. “When you look at our roster, you look at our picks, you look at all the things we have, we certainly have an attractive organization with a competitive ownership group, great coach, desirable players to play with. All those things that we have lends itself to believing that we’re capable of a big move if that’s on the table or available. The hardest part of that is not that many guys that are available you feel are worthy of giving up all that.”

George has struggled for fitness during his tenure with the Clippers. As such, Golden State should tread carefully before deciding whether to pursue the All-Star forward. Nevertheless, it’s clear that he would provide star-level production on the wing and could potentially catapult the Warriors back into contention.

The Warriors are expected to be active in retooling their roster this summer. However, it’s unclear whether George is truly part of their plans or whether their name being floated is nothing more than a rumor.

Charles Barkley claims Warriors ‘Hated’ Jordan Poole

The Golden State Warriors recently traded Jordan Poole, leading Charles Barkley to make a bold claim.

[anyclip pubname=”2123″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8170″]

Since the Golden State Warriors traded Jordan Poole in a deal to acquire Chris Paul, a lot has been said about the 24-year-old guard. Last summer, Poole was involved in an incident with Draymond Green which led to the veteran forward punching the young guard. Fast forward 12 months, and Poole’s relationship with his now former Warriors teammates is still a hot topic.

According to Charles Barkley, who was speaking with NBC Sports Bay Area, Golden State’s decision to trade Poole this summer is proof that they ‘really hated’ him. It’s worth noting that Barkley was simply sharing an opinion rather than reporting a fact.

“They hated Jordan Poole,” Barkley said. “They really hated Jordan Poole. “That’s the No. 1 thing I said to myself: They really hated Jordan Poole.”

Poole will now get the chance to become a focal point of the Washington Wizards’ rebuild alongside Kyle Kuzma, while the Warriors have another veteran guard in Paul to help them continue challenging for championships. As such, it would appear the recent trade has worked out well for everybody involved.

Nevertheless, Poole’s tenure with the Warriors ended under a cloud of uncertainty and discontent. Green and Poole have spent the past few weeks taking shots at each other via podcasts and social media. However, Warriors fans will likely be hoping the entire saga between the two players can now be put to bed so that both the Wizards and Golden State can start shifting their focus onto the upcoming season.

Report: Warriors could target 16-year veteran in free agency

The Golden State Warriors could add the veteran forward via free agency after he was recently waived by the Oklahoma City Thunder.

[anyclip pubname=”2123″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8222″]

The Golden State Warriors still have two open roster spots to fill. Following the addition of Chris Paul, Mike Dunleavy will likely be searching for talent willing to accept a veteran minimum contract. Currently, the Warriors could use some additional depth at both forward positions as the front office looks to round out their roster ahead of next season.

According to a recent report by HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, Rudy Gay is a player that is drawing interest from the Warriors. Golden State may face some competition for Gay’s services, though, as Scotto also noted, the Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks, Chicago Bulls, and New Orleans Pelicans also hold an interest in potentially adding him to their roster.

“Veteran forward Rudy Gay is expected to draw interest from several playoff-caliber teams, including the Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks, Chicago Bulls, and New Orleans Pelicans, league sources told HoopsHype,” Scotto wrote.

Gay has already found himself on two new teams this summer, having first been moved as part of the deal that saw the Utah Jazz acquire John Collins and then again when the Atlanta Hawks sent him to the Oklahoma City Thunder in a cost-cutting deal.

On July 19, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported that the Thunder were waiving Gay, allowing him to become an unrestricted free agent once he clears waivers. Gay participated in 56 games for the Jazz this past season, averaging 5.2 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 1 assist per game, shooting 38% from the field and 25.4% from deep.

Despite a 17-year NBA tenure, Gay has only tasted postseason basketball on three occasions, with the last time coming in 2019 for the San Antonio Spurs. As such, the opportunity to potentially contend for a championship with the Warriors may be a deciding factor on where the veteran forward chooses to spend his 18th NBA season.

Kendrick Perkins casts doubt over Warriors championship potential

According to Kendrick Perkins, the Golden State Warriors won’t be a championship contender next season.

[anyclip pubname=”2123″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8169″]

It’s easy to forget that the Golden State Warriors won a championship as recently as 2022. A tough loss to the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round of the Western Conference playoffs this past season quickly put any memories of Golden State’s recent success to the back of people’s minds.

However, the Warriors are only one year removed from their last banner and have been making moves to improve their roster over the summer. Yet, former NBA champion Kendrick Perkins isn’t sold on the Warriors’ credentials as potential contenders in the upcoming season, as he detailed in a July 14 episode of ESPN’s First Take.

“I give them a 1% chance. 1% chance,” Perkins said. “But it’s four teams in the Western Conference that I have ahead of them. The Denver Nuggets, the Los Angeles Lakers, Sacramento Kings, and the Phoenix Suns in no particular order. That’s why I give them a one [percent] chance.”

Since the offseason began, the Warriors have added multiple veterans to their roster, making moves that align their rotation with another push at a championship. The Western Conference has always been known for its competitiveness and depth, so the presence of Nikola Jokic, LeBron James, et al. shouldn’t be the only reason Golden State is being counted out moving forward.

After all, those same obstacles were in the way in 2022, and that didn’t stop Golden State from achieving its goals. Perkins may be right – the Warriors aren’t a young team anymore – yet their roster is littered with leaders and serial winners. Perkins has given Golden State another reason to play with purpose next season, but only time will tell if they can prove him wrong.

Warriors owner reveals future plans for All-Star core

Joe Lacob revealed his plans for the future of the Golden State Warriors All-Star trio.

[anyclip pubname=”2123″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8169″]

The Golden State Warriors are in the final stages of their dynasty. Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green are all entering the twilight of their illustrious careers. However, Joe Lacob has made his feelings on the future of the franchise very clear.

During a recent interview with Madeline Kenney of The Mercury News, Lacob discussed his desire to see the championship-winning core retire with the Warriors franchise. Golden State recently secured the future of Draymond Green, who signed a four-year $100 million deal with the franchise, while there is optimism Klay Thompson will follow suit by signing his own extension. Curry still has three years remaining on his current four-year $215 million deal.

“We’d like Steph, Draymond and Klay to retire as Warriors,” Lacob said. “That is my goal, our goal, and I think it’s a good likelihood that’ll happen.”

The Warriors aren’t far removed from their last championship. Golden State won its fourth title in 2022, defeating the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals. Unfortunately, the Warriors failed to double down on their success last season, as they fell to the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round of the Western Conference playoffs.

New Warriors GM Mike Dunleavy has wasted no time in revamping Golden State’s roster, bringing in multiple talented veterans to raise the floor on a core that’s already known for being one of the most dominant forces in NBA history. Out went Jordan Poole, and in came Chris Paul, shortly followed by Cory Joseph and Dario Saric.

Andrew Wiggins, Jonathan Kuminga, Brandin Podziemski, and Trayce Jackson-Davis will provide the youthful energy to the Warriors rotation, although they will all likely be tasked with playing a supporting role to Golden State’s veteran unit.

Curry, Thompson, and Draymond know what it takes to win, and none of them rely on athleticism for their game to be effective. As such, we will likely see a few more years of contention before Golden State’s star trio head off into the sunset, at which point Lacob and Dunleavy will have a monster rebuilding job on their hands.

Analyst questions Warriors Chris Paul addition, predicts future trade

The analyst has questioned Chris Paul’s fit with the Warriors and shared his belief the veteran guard could be traded during the upcoming season.

[anyclip pubname=”2123″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8169″]

Not everybody believes Chris Paul’s addition to the Golden State Warriors is going to be a seamless fit. For some, the veteran ball-handlers style of play is too different from what the Warriors will be asking of him in the upcoming season. There are also questions regarding Paul’s history with the Warriors roster and how happy he really is to be teaming up with Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green.

According to Frank Isola, who was speaking on 95.7 The Game,  it’s unlikely that Paul is truly thrilled to be with the Warriors. Isola also believes Golden State could potentially look to package Paul in another deal in the coming months.

“Chris Paul is fine there – but you can’t tell me that he’s thrilled to be joining a team that always used to beat him,” Isola said. “And doesn’t it make the most sense for him to come off the bench? So not only is he joining that team most likely coming off the bench – I still wonder if there’s a chance he could be traded somehow. Who knows. With James Harden out there, Damian Lillard, maybe something is going to happen.”

Despite how some Warriors fans may feel, Paul brings a new dimension to Golden State’s rotation. The team has been in need of another ball-handler who can initiate the offense for several seasons. However, questions regarding Paul’s role and whether he will start or come off the bench continue to swirl.

Regardless of whether Paul is a starter or a member of the second unit, the Warriors got stronger by adding the future Hall of Famer and will reap the benefits of having another elite guard at their disposal next season.

Warriors fans call for reunion with former all-action wing

With the Golden State Warriors precarious cap situation, some fans believe the former wing could help round out the team’s roster ahead of next season.

[anyclip pubname=”2123″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8169″]

Mike Dunleavy will be shopping in the veteran minimum section of free agency as he looks to fill out the remaining spots on the Golden State Warriors roster. Finding veteran role players willing to take the minimum and spend most of the season on the bench is never easy. Yet, with the team’s current cap situation, it’s essential Dunleavy perfects his sales pitch.

One player who some Warriors fans believe could be attainable is Juan Toscano-Anderson, as discussed in a recent Reddit post. The former Golden State wing is an unrestricted free agent this summer and could be available for a minimum contract.

Toscano-Anderson spent three seasons with the Warriors between 2019 and 2022, playing in 139 regular-season games and producing 4.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.2 assists on 36.1% shooting from deep and 63% shooting from two-point range.

Juan Toscano-Anderson is a free agent should the warriors sign him?
by u/andresantanajr in warriors

Bringing back a former fan favorite to comprise a deep bench role would likely appease the Warriors fan base. Furthermore, Toscano-Anderson could provide cover at both the shooting guard and small forward positions, giving Steve Kerr additional line-up flexibility throughout the regular season.

Golden State would still need to locate a backup big man, though. Currently, the Warriors don’t have a single player on their roster that’s taller than 6’9”. Such a lack of size will certainly cause some lineup issues if Dunleavy is unable to add a bigger body during the free agency period.

Fortunately, there are still some legitimate bigs available on the free agent market, including the recently waived Bol Bol, who would add size and shooting to Golden State’s bench rotation. For now, though, all we can do is wait and see how the Warriors look to navigate filling out the remainder of their roster.

Warriors fans call for 8-Time All-Star to solve their size problem’

The former All-Star big man is seen as a potential short-term stop gap to help alleviate some of the Golden State Warriors size issues.

[anyclip pubname=”2123″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8169″]

Currently, the Golden State Warriors have a lack of size in their frontcourt. As things stand, no player on the roster is taller than 6’9”. Mike Dunleavy has done an excellent job of revamping the Warriors’ guard rotation but must now turn his attention to the middle of the floor.

Fortunately, it would appear some Warriors’ fans have done Dunleavy’s scouting for him. In a recent post on Reddit, some members of the fanbase floated the idea of acquiring Dwight Howard on a minimum contract.

Is Dwight Howard that low cost option for that large body defensive stop gap? Or is he too washed?
by u/KarlOveKnau in warriors

Howard, 37, spent last season playing basketball in Taiwan. However, the 8-Time All-Star has previously discussed his openness to returning to the NBA if the offer made sense.

During his season abroad, Howard averaged 23.2 points, 16.2 rebounds, and 5 assists per game, shooting 57.7% from the field. However, Howard wouldn’t be joining the Warriors for his offensive upside. Instead, the veteran big man would be tasked with providing rim protection off the bench and controlling the defensive glass.

Despite his advancing years, Howard has remained productive as a rebounder and rim protector. During the 2021-22 season, Howard participated in 60 regular-season games for the Los Angeles Lakers, pulling down 5.9 rebounds per game, with four of them coming on the defensive end.

Howard isn’t a long-term solution at center. Yet, as a team with a serious lack of size, a short-term fix would make a world of difference. There’s no telling whether Howard could be enticed back to the NBA.

However, a shot at another championship ring could be enough to get Howard to sit at the negotiating table, and from there, it’s about selling him on the culture and being part of the Warriors dynasty.
