Every player in Boston Celtics history who wore No. 0

Today’s installment focuses on the six players who wore No. 0 over the years as of September 2023.

The Boston Celtics have more retired jerseys than any other team in the NBA, but that doesn’t mean the rest of their jerseys have little history or interest tied to them. In fact, with 17 titles to their name and decades of competitive basketball played in them, their unretired jersey numbers pack in some of the most history not hanging from the rafters of any team in the league.

To that end, we have launched our accounting of that history, with every player in every jersey worn by more than one Celtics player in the storied franchise’s history accounted for.

11 Boston Celtics alumni changing places in redraft of NBA’s 1996 class

Let’s take a look at which Celtics alumni landed where.

As Hoops Hype’s staff keep themselves busy reassessing the draft orders of the last few decades over the years, there are always a fair number of Boston Celtics alumni making moves in their re-drafts as a result.

In the H/H reassessment of the 1996 NBA draft class, a total of 11 Boston alumni ended up seeing their draft stock shift with the benefit of hindsight lifting their fortunes. And while they won’t see any pay raises or anything else of that sort given the fictitious nature of such an exercise, it’s also nice to see this group get their flowers, too.

Let’s take a look at which Celtics alumni landed where.

Former Boston Celtics assistant, player Walter McCarty suing University of Evansville

He claims he is owed $75,000 by his former employer after his termination.

Former Boston Celtics forward and assistant coach Walter McCarty is suing the University of Evansville for breach of contract according to a new report from the Evansville Courier and Press’ Chad Lindskog.

Per Lindskog, McCarty is claiming he is owed $75,000 in back pay, which he is now suing his former employer for. The University, for whom McCarty left the Celtics to accept a job as their men’s basketball program head coach after serving for five years as an assistant coach with Boston, in turn, claims the incidents related to his firing extinguished any such obligations according to the report.

Those incidents are tied to allegations of sexual assault levied by a student against McCarty, who is currently engaged in another lawsuit with the former Celtics assistant.

Embroiled in several other lawsuits related to a declaration of bankruptcy by McCarty, the Celtics alumnus finds himself entangled in controversy and legal issues since leaving Boston in 2018.

Arrest warrant issued for ex-Celtic assistant, player Walter McCarty

Former Boston Celtics assistant coach and player has had an arrest warrant issued in his name related to a civil case he did not appear for.

Former Boston Celtics assistant coach and player Walter McCarty has a warrant out for his arrest after failing to appear in a civil case filed by Old National Bank, who allege the former Celtic defaulted on a $75,000 private line of credit, reports IndyStar’s Chad Lindskog.

This isn’t even the first time McCarty skipped out on a court appearance for the case — and it is by far the lesser legal situation the former Boston assistant is involved in.

The University of Evansville product left the Celtics to coach his former team in 2018, only to be fired after a Title IX investigation into his conduct in that role.

Soon after, he would be accused of sexual assault by an Evansville student, who retained a powerful national law firm but has not yet brought charges against McCarty at this time.

The Celtic alumnus’ fall from grace has been swift; McCarty — who still lives in the Boston area — has not commented on the warrant, or the charges pending against him in multiple court cases publicly.
