Tennessee pitcher Hollis Fanning earns win against Sonoma.

Tennessee sophomore pitcher Hollis Fanning is playing for the Walnut Creek Crawdads of the California Collegiate League.

Fanning earned a win July 2 against the Sonoma Stompers. He pitched seven innings, recording four strikeouts, while surrendering five hits, one walk and zero runs.

Walnut Creek defeated Sonoma, 6-0.

Fanning appeared in five games for the Vols during the 2022 season.

He made his first career start against Tennessee Tech on Feb. 22 before the contest was canceled due to rain. The Vols led Tennessee Tech, 5-4, in the top of the fifth inning with two outs before the contest was postponed and later canceled.

The 6-foot-7, 220-pound Hollis is blind in his left eye. He came to the Vols from Tullahoma High School in Tullahoma, Tennessee.

Tennessee sophomore pitcher Hollis Fanning started Saturday for the Walnut Creek Crawdads of the California Collegiate League.

Fanning pitched eight innings, totaling 98 pitches with 73 strikes, against the Arroyo Seco Saints. He recorded five strikeouts, while surrendering three earned runs, one walk and nine hits, in Walnut Creek’s 5-4 victory.

Fanning appeared in five games for the Vols during the 2022 season.

Tennessee’s Kavares Tears hits first home run with Walnut Creek Crawdads.

Tennessee freshman outfielder and first baseman Kavares Tears is playing in the California Collegiate League.

Tears debuted for the Walnut Creek Crawdads on June 12.

He hit his first home run June 14 against the Sonoma Stompers. The 6-foot, 200-pound Tears is 1-for-11 with one home run, one RBI, one run and one walk in four contests.

Tears redshirted during the 2022 season at Tennessee. He came to the Vols from Columbia Academy in Columbia, Tennessee.

Tennessee (57-9, 25-5 SEC) concluded its 2022 season on June 12.

The Vols advanced to the NCAA Tournament Super Regional and were ranked No. 1 in the USA TODAY Sports baseball coaches poll for 10 consecutive weeks (March 28-May 30).
