D.C. rapper and Commanders’ superfan Wale to perform at halftime of Sunday’s home opener

Wale will perform at halftime of Sunday’s home opener.

It’s difficult to find a bigger celebrity fan of the Washington Commanders than NBA superstar Kevin Durant. There is also actor Matthew McConaughey and NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Jr. Another famous Washington fan is D.C. native Wale.

The famous rapper was born in Washington, D.C., but moved to Montgomery County, Maryland during his youth. Throughout that time, Wale always supported his hometown team, the then-Washington Redskins.

While the name may have changed—a couple of times—Wale’s fandom has never wavered. He often visits training camp or attends home games and always supports the Commanders on his social media accounts.

The Commanders will host the New York Giants during their home opener on Sunday, and Wale will perform at halftime.

The Commanders lost their season opener at Tampa Bay, but rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels played well enough to earn the Pepsi Zero Sugar NFL Rookie of the Week honors.

Rapper and Commanders’ fan Wale on the 2024 team: ‘It’s a new day’

The rap superstar is excited about the Commanders’ future.

When it comes to celebrity Washington Commanders’ fans, a few names come to mind. Matthew McConaughey, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kevin Durant and Wale come to mind first.

Wale was in attendance for Friday’s practice at Commanders Park and spoke on all of the changes with the franchise and the excitement surrounding the team.

“You can’t help but to be excited, you can feel the excitement of the fans,” Wale said. “Even talking to a lot of my friends on the team, you can feel it. It’s a new day.”

Wale was then asked how they looked on the practice field Friday: “Fast, we looked fast. We looked excited, inspired.”

What about Jayden Daniels?

“Of course, that’s the pick I wanted……we love to have him here.”

Wale praised the front office, particularly the new ownership group.

So, what does he happening this season?

“I don’t want to put any expectations on our guys right now, but I think we’re going to win some games, shock a lot of people and play with intensity and passion. I can guarantee that.”

Even during the franchise’s struggles over the years, Wale has always maintained his support for the team.

D.C. Rapper Wale hints at having Chase Young in one of his upcoming songs

Wale is one of the most popular Redskins fans in today’s world, and he’s hinted at bringing the newest member of the team into the studio.

In a matter of months, we will likely watch as Chase Young takes the field for the Washington Redskins and hopefully lives up to the high standards that have been set for him.

Before all of that happens, though, there’s a chance we could be hearing from him on a Wale track.

While talking with popular D.C. rapper, Wale, after the 2020 NFL Draft, the two admitted to becoming very close as of late, and talking several times a week. Wale, who is very into sports and often ties them in with his music, hinted that he might bring Young into the studio sometime soon, letting him take part in the hook of an upcoming song.

When Washington selected Young with the No. 2 pick, they accepted him into the Redskins family. If Wale were to include him in a track, he would be accepted into the D.C. culture. I can’t think of a more exciting way to start your young career.
