26 players cut by other teams Broncos should consider signing

The Broncos will be fifth in the NFL’s waiver wire order today. Which players would you like to see the team add to the roster?

After making 40 roster moves to reach an initial 53-man roster, the Denver Broncos have more moves on deck.

Players with fewer than four years of experience who were cut this week are subject to the NFL’s waiver wire, which will be processed Wednesday. The Broncos are fifth in the waiver wire order so it wouldn’t be surprising to see Denver put in several claims.

Additionally, the Broncos might also consider signing veteran free agents — players with four or more years of experience — who were cut by other teams.

We’ve put together a list of 26 players (plus two in-house cuts) who Denver should consider claiming off waivers or signing as a free agent today.

The Broncos are fifth overall in the NFL’s waiver wire order this week.

The Denver Broncos finalized an initial 53-man roster on Tuesday, but the roster moves are not over just yet.

After the team’s preseason finale last week, Broncos coach Sean Payton explained that roster shuffling will continue, starting with waiver claims on Wednesday morning.

“It takes a minute [to sort out the roster],” Payton said. “Then we’re evaluating everyone else’s cuts. We claim fifth this year which is high. That’s a good spot to be in.”

The NFL’s waiver wire order is the same order the NFL had for the draft earlier this year. Before trades, Denver was set to pick fifth overall in the 2023 draft, so the team will be fifth in the waiver wire order this week.

Here’s a look at the NFL’s complete waiver wire order.

1) Chicago Bears
2) Houston Texans
3) Arizona Cardinals
4) Indianapolis Colts
5) Denver Broncos

After waiver claims are processed, teams can begin building 16-player practice squads. After that, attention will turn to the regular season.

Commanders GM Martin Mayhew: The roster is a ‘very fluid’ right now

Other moves will be made.

Shortly after the Washington Commanders finalized their initial 53-man roster Tuesday, head coach Ron Rivera and general manager Martin Mayhew joined the local media to discuss the roster.

Washington’s initial 53-man roster didn’t contain any shocking moves. However, the numbers at two specific positions stood out. The Commanders kept seven wide receivers and 11 defensive linemen.

With so many players released over the last few days, every NFL team’s initial roster will likely change somewhat over the next week. So don’t get too attached to Tuesday’s rosters, which is exactly why we highlight the term “initial” roster.

Mayhew said as much on Tuesday.

“Yeah, I would say very fluid process,” said of the roster. “I mean, our 53 right now is what it is now, but it’s an ongoing process. There’ll be a big waiver wire out tonight. Our pro department will be scouring that. We’ll be looking through that. We’re always trying to get better.”

The Commanders are currently No. 16 in the waiver wire order.

In other words, there will be more moves, so Washington’s roster, as of 4 p.m. ET Tuesday, will likely not look the same one week from now.

Where are the Commanders in the waiver wire order?

Could the Commanders add to the roster via the waiver wire?

The Washington Commanders finalized their initial 53-man roster Tuesday with few surprises. But, as general manager Martin Mayhew said when discussing Washington’s roster, he called it a “very fluid process.”

In other words, don’t be surprised if we see multiple changes throughout the next few days leading up to Week 1. Some of those changes could come via the waiver wire. After all, over 1,100 players were waived over the last two days, and many will be available through waivers or outright free agency.

The waiver claim deadline is on Wednesday at Noon ET. Where do the Commanders currently sit in the waiver wire order? Unfortunately, right in the middle of the pack, just like the 2023 NFL draft order.

Below is a look at the complete waiver wire order:

  1. Chicago Bears
  2. Houston Texans
  3. Arizona Cardinals
  4. Indianapolis Colts
  5. Denver Broncos

Full waiver wire order at roster cut deadline: Where do the Vikings fall?

The Vikings waiver wire position could come into play this week

Cutdown day is upon us and the Minnesota Vikings have some work to do in order to get down to their 53-man roster. The deadline is at 3 pm central on Tuesday, August 29th.

General manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah has been active around this time both making cuts on his own roster, but also trying to add players via the trade market. He did it multiple times last season and has already traded Vederian Lowe to the New England Patriots.

If the Vikings want to add players off the waiver wire, they will be behind multiple teams. Where do they fall and what are the rules for all of the lists players can be on? Let’s break it all down.

Full waiver wire order for all 32 teams at NFL roster cuts deadline

Full waiver wire for all 32 teams at NFL roster cuts deadline: Where do the New Orleans Saints stand in waiver priority?

More than 1,000 NFL players will be released, waived, or traded ahead of Tuesday afternoon’s annual deadline, with many of them (but not all) eligible for claiming on the waiver wire. That’s an opportunity for the New Orleans Saints and many other teams to get better by acquiring players who either weren’t good fits in their last spot or who were pushed off the depth chart by offseason upgrades.

But where are the Saints picking? At this point on the NFL calendar waiver wire priority is determined by the 2023 draft order, without any trades, meaning the Saints clock in at No. 10 overall. It will change once games are played and teams begin racking up wins or suffering losses. For now, here is where New Orleans slots in:

Where do the Colts rank in waiver wire priority?

Here’s where the Colts rank on the waiver wire ahead of roster cuts.

While cutdown day is chaotic around the NFL, another important aspect of the process is the waiver wire. The Indianapolis Colts should be one of the more active teams after the roster deadline passes Tuesday.

First, we must begin by looking at what the process of being waived means.

Players with fewer than four accrued NFL seasons are subject to waivers.  Players with at least four accrued seasons are released outright, and they are free to sign with any team immediately. An example of the latter for the Colts would be the release of running back Kenyan Drake, who has been in the NFL since 2016.

Any player with fewer than four accrued NFL seasons becomes subject to waivers for 24 hours and can not sign with a team unless they go unclaimed. If they clear waivers, they become a free agent able to sign with any team. If they are claimed, the team making the claim will take on whatever contract exists at the time.

At this point, the waiver order is determined by the NFL draft order before trades. So even if a team traded away their first-round pick, they still hold that original spot in the waiver order.

Every team makes waiver claims at the same time, and the team with the highest waiver wire position gets both the player and his existing contract. There is no limit on how many waiver claims a team can make, but they must make corresponding moves to satisfy the 53-player roster limit.

Here’s a look at the full waiver wire order following roster cuts:

  1. Chicago Bears
  2.  Houston Texans
  3. Arizona Cardinals
  4. Indianapolis Colts
  5. Denver Broncos
  6. Los Angeles Rams
  7. Las Vegas Raiders
  8. Atlanta Falcons

49ers might have hard time landing players on waivers after cuts

The #49ers probably won’t be able to do much on the waiver wire

The 49ers might have their eye on some players released by teams at Tuesday’s 1:00pm Pacific Time deadline for final cuts. Given the team’s lack of certainty and depth at a couple spots it wouldn’t be crazy if they went scouring the waiver wire.

However, that may not be something they’ll necessarily be able to rely on given where they rank in the waiver wire pecking order.

The waiver order is set via the NFL draft order without any trades. Since the 49ers lost in the NFC championship game last season, they landed at No. 29 in the waiver order.

That means if they put a claim on a player, 28 other teams would need to pass on that player for San Francisco to be awarded that claim.

A more likely way they’ll bolster their own roster is either via free agency or waiting until the dust settles on waiver claims. There’s a strong chance San Francisco’s eyes on the waiver wire will linger more on their own players they’re hoping to sneak through without another team claiming them.

The deadline for waiver claims is 9:00am Pacific Time on Wednesday. After that any player who clears waivers is a free agent, and that’s when we can anticipate the 49ers being more active in shoring up their roster and building their practice squad.

Where the Saints stand in waiver claim priority after 2023 roster cuts

The Saints will have a great opportunity to claim players off the waiver wire. They’ll slot in at No. 10 out of the league’s 32 teams when roster cuts are processed:

Tuesday’s NFL roster cuts deadline is just half of the week’s business — the New Orleans Saints and every other team will have the opportunity to claim many of the players who were just let go around the league when the waiver wire updates on Wednesday. You can find the full list of waiver claim priority here.

This year’s change to go down to just one day of roster cuts means more than one thousand names will be on the list. But the Saints are in a good spot to find some help. The order for waiver claims is the same as the initial 2023 NFL draft order, without any trades; which means New Orleans is slotted in at No. 10 out of the 32 teams.

But teams rarely find big contributors on the waiver wire. It makes sense, seeing as all of the players available are inexperienced pros who were just let go by their previous team. Sometimes, though, they’ll find a diamond in the rough. Taysom Hill is the Saints’ most notable waiver claim in recent years, with fullback Adam Prentice in second-place, though they’ve also added players like wide receiver Austin Carr and linebacker Michael Mauti.

The Saints have also used the waiver wire as an opportunity to bring back their former players, plugging holes on the roster and quickly addressing needs. Some of the reunions over the years include defensive end Kasim Edebali, plus offensive tackles Bryce Harris and Derrick Kelly.

So will they claim anyone on Wednesday? We’ll just have to wait and see. It’s worth remembering that any pickups will need a corresponding roster move to open a spot, so that could lessen the appeal if the Saints are content with their depth chart as it stands. Additionally, only players with fewer than four years’ experience in the NFL will hit waivers. Everyone with four or more seasons behind them will become a free agent upon their release. Keep that in mind as roster moves roll in over the next few days.

Saints claim former Packers guard Chuck Filiaga off the waiver wire

The Saints were awarded former Packers guard Chuck Filiaga after claiming him on the waiver wire, reuniting Cesar Ruiz with one of his old teammates:

Wednesday’s update to the daily NFL transactions wire reports that the New Orleans Saints were awarded former Green Bay Packers offensive lineman Chuck Filiaga after claiming him on the waiver wire — a move that reunites Cesar Ruiz with one of his old teammates.

Filiaga signed with Green Bay as a rookie free agent after the 2023 NFL draft, having transferred to Minnesota after beginning his college career at Michigan. He played both guard spots in Ann Arbor on either side of Ruiz, the Wolverines’ former center, but Minnesota started him at right guard for 13 games last season. Pro Football Focus credited Filiaga with allowing just 2 sacks on 682 snaps in pass protection while drawing 7 penalty flags on his 1,525 career reps at the college level.

The 25-year-old from Aledo, Texas enters a suddenly-crowded competition in New Orleans, but there are plenty of snaps to go around while starting left guard Andrus Peat continues to recover from a strained quadriceps muscle. Filiaga joins Tommy Kraemer and Koda Martin as recent additions to the depth chart at guard, along with Max Garcia (who is also pushing rookie center Alex Pihlstrom to back up Erik McCoy), Mark Evans II, Lewis Kidd, and Calvin Throckmorton. They’re all competing for one or two roster spots up for grabs behind Peat, Ruiz, and rookie fourth-round draft pick Nick Saldiveri.
