Texans waive QB E.J. Perry

The Houston Texans have waived quarterback E.J. Perry.

The Houston Texans have seen enough.

The Texans waived quarterback E.J. Perry Thursday.

Houston signed Perry on March 8 off waivers from the Jacksonville Jaguars. The former Brown product went undrafted in 2022 and spent the majority of training camp and preseason with the Jaguars. At the start of the regular season, Perry made the Jaguars’ practice squad and spent the entire season there. At the end of the Jaguars’ season, Perry signed a reserve/future contract with Jacksonville.

The move comes as the Texans prepare for rookie minicamp May 12-13 with No. 2 overall pick C.J. Stroud working his way into the offense. Houston still has Case Keenum and Davis Mills on the roster.

Seahawks waive veteran cornerback Sidney Jones

The Seattle Seahawks ultimately had to waive veteran cornerback Sidney Jones after being unable to trade him by Tuesday’s deadline.

The Seattle Seahawks executed a couple of roster moves on Tuesday, including the waiver of veteran cornerback, Sidney Jones.

Per NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, Seattle had attempted to trade Jones before the deadline but ultimately was forced to cut him.

Jones was originally selected by the Eagles in the second round of the 2017 NFL draft out of the University of Washington and spent three years in Philadelphia. He was picked up by the Jaguars ahead of the 2020 season and was then dealt to the Seahawks via a trade in 2021.

With the emergence of Tariq Wollen and Mike Jackson at the starting corner spots, and Tre Brown’s return to practice, Jones’ services were no longer needed.

Even though Jones is a vested veteran, he must clear waivers since he was cut following the trade deadline.

Texans sign receiver Tyron Johnson, waive wideout Tyler Johnson

In a somewhat bizarre move, the Texans signed and waived a pair of receivers with nearly identical names

It isn’t often that a team makes corresponding roster moves with players whose names are so similar, but the Houston Texans managed to make a doozy of a move on Tuesday afternoon with guys who happen to play the same position. It was first announced that they had signed receiver Tyron Johnson, a third-year pro out of Oklahoma State, before following up with the news that wideout Tyler Johnson, who had been with the team since late August, was waived.

The former Johnson has bounced around quite a bit since entering the league as an undrafted free agent in 2019. After initially being signed by the Texans, he played for the Buffalo Bills and Carolina Panthers as a rookie, eventually finding a short-term home with the Los Angeles Chargers through 2020. He spent last season first with the Jacksonville Jaguars and later with the Las Vegas Raiders, and stayed in Sin City until October 22nd of this year, when he was waived.

As for the latter Johnson, who was a fifth-round selection in the 2020 draft by way of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, his stint in Houston was just the second stop of his career. After playing with Tom Brady for his first two seasons in the NFL, he was eventually released in late August of 2022 and was picked up by the Texans shortly after.

Neither of these Johnsons has registered a reception through seven weeks this season, and it is unclear what the possibilities might be for their respective contributions moving forward. News of a potential claim for the receiver that Houston waived on Tuesday has not yet broken, so his future will remain uncertain for the time being.

The newest member of the Texans organization is known best for the three-touchdown campaign he put together in 2020 for the Chargers, and if he can duplicate that same impressive performance for Houston this season, Johnson might prove to be a boon for Lovie Smith’s struggling offense.

The Packers waive a former Wisconsin Badger offensive lineman

The Packers waive a former Wisconsin Badger offensive lineman

In order to trim their training camp roster to 85, the Green Bay Packers have waived former Wisconsin Badger offensive lineman Jon Dietzen.

The team had added the Wisconsin product as an undrafted free agent after the 2021 NFL Draft.

Dietzen’s path to the NFL will now have to continue somewhere other than Green Bay, that is unless the Packers sign him back to their practice squad when the season kicks off.

Offensive lineman Cole Van Lanen is now the only former Badger playing up north in Green Bay.

Seahawks sign TE Dominick Wood-Anderson, waive RB B.J. Emmons

The Seattle Seahawks announced a couple of roster moves on Wednesday, signing TE Dominick Wood-Anderson and waiving RB B.J. Emmons.

The Seattle Seahawks announced a couple of roster moves on Wednesday, signing tight end Dominick Wood-Anderson and waiving running back B.J. Emmons to make room on the 90-man roster.

Wood-Anderson first entered the league last year as an undrafted free agent out of Tennessee. He now joins the Seahawks for the second time in his career, signing on with the team last season following the draft before he was waived during Seattle’s cuts to an 80-man squad.

He now adds some depth in the tight end room heading into training camp at the end of July.

Emmons had been signed as an undrafted free agent in May.

Report: Lions waive WR Chris Lacy as roster cuts begin

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero is reporting that the Detroit Lions are waiving wide receiver Chris Lacy as the 2020 roster cuts begin.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero is reporting that the Detroit Lions are waiving wide receiver Chris Lacy as the 2020 roster cuts begin.

Lacy has been with the Lions for the past two seasons splitting time between the active roster and practice squad. He was released in early August, and after a week in free agency, he was re-signed to as roster depth during training camp.

The Lions have six wide receivers — Kenny Golladay, Marvin Jones Jr., Danny Amendola, Quintez Cephus, Jamal Agnew, and Marvin Hall — who have had terrific camps, while Tom Kennedy and Victor Boldin made a strong case for the practice, putting Lacy on the outside looking in.

Pelissero is reporting that Lacy is a candidate for the practice squad, but he has a tough road as several players who were repping ahead of him in training camp.

Lacy was not part of Lions Wire’s 53-man projection, either on the active roster or as a practice squad candidate.

Report: Texans release defensive tackle Albert Huggins

The Houston Texans have released former 2019 undrafted defensive tackle Albert Huggins.

The Houston Texans are trimming down their active roster.

According to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, the Texans released defensive tackle Albert Huggins. Wilson says if another team doesn’t sign Huggins, then he would be on the shortlist to join the Texans’ practice squad.

Houston signed Huggins at the beginning of training camp after defensive tackle Eddie Vanderdoes opted out. The Texans have familiarity with the former Clemson Tiger as he was one of their priority free agents following the 2019 NFL Draft.

Huggins landed on the Texans’ practice squad at the end of last preseason, but the Philadelphia Eagles signed him off of their squad onto their active roster that October. Huggins bounced up and down from their respective roster and practice squad until the New England Patriots got into the fray. At the end of the season, the Eagles signed Huggins to a reserve/future contract.

The move brings the Texans’ roster to 79.
