Texas A&M stumbles late against Texas, dropping to 4-3 in conference play and losing some ground in the standings.

This was the worst loss of the season because of the frustrating decisions made throughout the game.

Outside of the poor shot selection and game management at the end of the game, one of the most puzzling was how Manny Obaskei sat on the bench in the second half. When asked, this is all coach Buzz Williams had to say about that choice.

“yes sir”

That’s how the post-game press conference ended. There are a lot of lessons to be learned, and a team that’s usually been good at closing out games wasn’t that against the Longhorns this time.

Here are the best photos from Saturday night’s game.

‘We didn’t respond well’ Texas A&M HC Buzz Williams takes blame for loss to Texas

Texas A&M let big lead slip away in the second half of their 70-69 loss to Texas

On Saturday, Texas A&M was on the losing end of a last-second one-point victory against rival Texas, and this one stings a little more than it should have for several reasons.

The Aggies’ performance in the second half was disappointing regarding on-court play and coaching choices. The offense struggled significantly, scoring fewer than 30 points and making poor shot selections in crucial moments.

Additionally, senior guard Manny Obaseki saw limited playing time in the second half despite scoring 12 points in the first half, leading all players to scorers.

This was the first game this season where coach Buzz Williams and the players didn’t show up for the entire game. Buzz acknowledged as much after the loss in the post-game press conference.

“I want to give credit to Coach Terry and his players. Incredible second half. We didn’t respond well. I’m at the front of the list for that. I need to do a better job.”

Basketball is similar to baseball in that so many games are played that sometimes you will put up a few stinkers or lose games that you should win a few times throughout a season. Saturday’s game was just that.

Instant reaction to Texas A&M blowing a 22-point lead, losing 70-69 to Texas

Texas A&M squanders away and 22-point lead as the offense goes stale in the second half against Texas

No. 13 Texas A&M (15-5, 4-3 SEC) loses on the road to Texas (14-6, 3-4 SEC) at the Moody Center 70-69, splitting the series at one apiece.

A game that initially seemed poised for an easy win shifted dramatically, with Texas overcoming a 22-point deficit in the second half.

The Aggies began strong, shooting an impressive 53.3% from beyond the arc, hitting 8 of their 15 attempts. Manny Obaseki was on fire, leading A&M with 12 points as they headed into halftime with a 43-25 advantage.

The second half told a contrasting tale, as A&M struggled significantly to make even the simplest shots near the basket. Meanwhile, Texas freshman Tre Johnson turned up the intensity, ending the game with 30 points. Texas outscored A&M 45 to 26 in this period, sealing their victory with a layup just 3 seconds before the final buzzer.

This was not a must-win game for Texas A&M, but it would have allowed them to gain some ground in the standings. However, now they are back to the middle of the pack and are at the drawing board once again to clean up the offense

GAME NOTES:

  • Wade Taylor led the Aggies with 15 points and three assists
  • Texas A&M outrebound Texas 43-27
  • 42.2% FG / 52.2% 3PT / 37.5% FT

The Texas A&M men’s basketball team ran out of team letting a sizable lead slip away in their loss to Florida on Saturday afternoon.

For the first time in three seasons, the Aggies will not be in the SEC Championship game. They had a strong showing over the last six games with the team playing some of the best basketball we have seen this year.

Wade Taylor is rounding back into All-SEC form reached a milestone of 1,500 points. Solomon Washington and Manny Obaseki have stepped up as well over the past month giving them much more needed offense that’s been missing most of the year.

The Aggies will now have to wait until Sunday to see if they did enough to earn a bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The Aggies are trying to leave no doubt for the selection committee with a very impressive win over a Top 10 team and sweeping the Wildcats in the two games played between the teams.
