Tennessee is 4-0 to start the 2024-25 men’s college basketball season. The Vols have wins versus Gardner-Webb, Louisville, Montana and Austin Peay.

Following the second week of the 2024-25 college basketball season, the USA TODAY Sports Men’s Basketball Coaches Poll was released. The Vols remain ranked No. 9 entering the third week of the season.

Tennessee was ranked No. 12 during the preseason and No. 9 after the first week.

Tennessee will next play Virginia in the Continental Tire Baha Mar Championship on Thursday. Tipoff between the Vols and Cavaliers is slated for 9:30 p.m. EST and will be televised by CBS Sports Network from Nassau, Bahamas.

The 2024 college football season enters Week 13.

Tennessee (8-2, 5-2 SEC) lost to Georgia (8-2, 5-2 SEC), 31-17, in Week 12 at Sanford Stadium. The Vols will next host UTEP (2-8, 2-5 CUSA) on Saturday in Week 13.

Tennessee totaled 167 passing yards in its Week 12 loss against the Bulldogs. Tight end Miles Kitselman recorded four receptions for 46 yards for the Vols. Tennessee wide receiver Squirrel White also recorded six receptions for 45 yards.

No. 9 Tennessee (4-0) defeated Austin Peay (3-1), 103-68, on Sunday at Food City Center. Rankings reflect the USA TODAY Sports Men’s Basketball Coaches Poll.

Tennessee leads the all time basketball series versus the Governors, 10-1, dating to 1940.

Igor Milicic Jr. led the Vols in scoring with 23 points. He converted 11-of-14 field goal attempts and 1-of-2 free throw attempts. He tied Cade Phillips for Tennessee’s leader in rebounds with nine.

Zakai Zeigler led Tennessee in assists (8).

The Vols totaled 34 bench points, 64 points in the paint, 25 points off turnovers, 17 second chance points and 27 fast break points against Austin Peay.

Isaac Haney led Austin Peay with 22 points, while LJ Thomas scored 20.

Vols down seven spots in US LBM Coaches Poll after Georgia loss

Tennessee’s latest top 25 ranking released after a Week 12 loss at Georgia.

Two weeks are left in the 2024 college football regular-season. Tennessee (8-2, 5-2 SEC) will host UTEP on Saturday and play at Vanderbilt on Nov. 30 to conclude regular-season play.

The Vols remain in contention for the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff. ESPN FPI gives Tennessee the tenth best chance to make the College Football Playoff after Week 12.

Tennessee will look to rebound from its second loss of the season ahead of facing UTEP and Vanderbilt. The Vols lost at Georgia, 31-17, in Week 12. Tennessee’s other loss this season was by five points on Oct. 5.

Dalton Knecht scores career-high 27 points against New Orleans

Dalton Knecht scores career-high 27 points as Los Angeles defeats New Orleans.

Los Angeles (9-4) defeated New Orleans (4-10), 104-99, Saturday at Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Former Tennessee basketball player Dalton Knecht made his third NBA start for the Lakers. He totaled a career-high 27 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals in 37 minutes against the Pelicans.

Knecht converted 10-of-17 field goal attempts, 5-of-10 3-point attempts and 2-of-2 free throw attempts.

He was selected in the first-round of the 2024 NBA draft (No. 17 overall) by Los Angeles.

Knecht was a transfer from Northern Colorado and played for the Vols during the 2023-24 season under coach Rick Barnes. During his one season at Tennessee, Knecht averaged 21.7 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game.

He led the Vols to a SEC regular-season championship and an appearance in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament for the second time in school history.

Knecht was the 2024 SEC Player and SEC Newcomer of the Year. He was a consensus All-America standout and earned the Julius Erving Award.

For the first time, there will be 12 teams participating in the College Football Playoff. There are five automatic bids for each of the Power Four conference champions and one to the highest-ranked Group of Five champion. The remaining seven seeds are awarded to at-large teams.

How does the College Football Playoff format work?

The top four seeds will have a bye in the first-round. The next four highest-seeded teams will host an on-campus first-round game as follows:

No. 10 Georgia (8-2. 6-2 SEC) defeated No. 4 Tennessee (8-2, 5-2 SEC), 31-17, at Sanford Stadium in Athens, Georgia on Saturday in Week 12.

The Vols and Bulldogs were tied, 17-17, at halftime after Tennessee led, 10-0, at the end of the first quarter.

The Vols scored first on a 1-yard run by tight end Miles Kitselman. Kicker Max Gilbert later converted a career-long 52-yard field goal with 47 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

Tennessee redshirt freshman quarterback Nico Iamaleava completed 20-of-33 passing attempts for 167 yards.

Dylan Sampson was the Vols’ leading rusher. He totaled 101 rushing yards and one touchdown on 19 attempts.

Squirrel White led Tennessee with six receptions.

Georgia quarterback Carson Beck completed 25-of-40 passing attempts for 347 yards and two touchdowns to tight end Oscar Delp. Beck also rushed for one touchdown.

Los Angeles (8-4) defeated San Antonio (6-7), 120-115, Friday in the second annual NBA Cup at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Former Tennessee basketball player Dalton Knecht made his second start for the Lakers. He totaled 14 points and three rebounds in 26 minutes against the Spurs.

Knecht converted 6-of-11 field goal attempts and 2-of-4 three-point attempts.

He was selected in the first-round of the 2024 NBA draft (No. 17 overall) by Los Angeles.
