Excitement abounds, no doubt, as three athletic programs compete in postseason play, all vying for the sweet glory of a championship trophy.

The weekend is nearly here which means once again that Gators sports will be in full swing for the next few days. Excitement abounds, no doubt, as three athletic programs compete in postseason play, all vying for the sweet glory of a championship trophy; the other four continue regular season play as their regular-season schedules wane as we get closer to summer.

Notre Dame volleyball wins first-round match of NCAA Tournament

The Irish are moving on in the NCAA Tournament.

Notre Dame has advanced in the NCAA Tournament after defeating Army in four sets, 23-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-11, in the first round. This is the 12th time the Irish (15-3) have made it to the Round of 32 in their history, and they did it in their first-ever meeting with the Black Knights. They will continue their tournament stay Thursday against Oregon (14-4), which swept the Irish in the teams’ only previous meeting Oct. 20, 1985.

Among the key contributors for Notre Dame were Charley Niego with 12 kills and 11 digs, Caroline Meuth with 10 kills and five blocks, and Zoe Nunez with 30 assists, 12 digs and three of the team’s season-high 10 service aces. The Irish got a match-high eight blocks apiece from Hannah Thompson and Lauren Wenzel. Hattie Monson contributed 14 digs.

If the Irish defeat the Ducks, it will mean the seventh Sweet 16 trip in program history. They now have won four matches in a row and six of their past seven.

This content comes from our friends at Sportskind.

Oh, nothing to see here, just a group of people casually playing volleyball in front of an erupting volcano.

Watch this daring game of volleyball in the player above.

The erupting volcano is on Iceland’s Reykjanes Peninsula. It’s called the Fagradalsfjall volcano and started erupting in March.

Rut Einarsdottir recorded this video of the people passing the ball to one another as lava spews behind them.

Rut explained she was just having her morning coffee when she looked out her window and saw this.

Out of all the places to play volleyball, this one is certainly one we’d never imagine in a million years.

Gators News: Another winning weekend for Florida sports includes an SEC title

UF has won at least one SEC championship a record 43 consecutive years, which is simply astounding, while other teams keep winning as well.

Welcome back from a weekend full of Gators sports as the university’s athletic programs continue to make us proud to be Florida Gators. The biggest news is a milestone that the Gator Nation reached on Sunday — a gift from the Easter bunny, if you will — as UF earned its 250th Southeastern Conference title when the No. 1 men’s tennis team beat Kentucky to clinch. The Gators have won at least one SEC championship a record 43 consecutive years, which is simply astounding.

But the guys on the hardcourt were not the only ones to see great success this weekend — check out the rest of the teams in action and how they fared over the past few days.

Watch: Notre Dame volleyball players congratulate trainer on 25 years

Student-athletes wouldn’t be who they are without their teams’ athletic trainers.

Student-athletes wouldn’t be who they are without their teams’ athletic trainers. When one person holds a team’s trainer position for a long time, that person obviously is trustworthy. Notre Dame volleyball trainer Chantel Porter has had her job for the past 25 years, and the time seemed right for the program’s current players to honor her for just that. The following video was released just ahead of the Irish’s Senior Night match against Clemson:

Porter came to the Irish at a time when they made the NCAA Tournament every year, a run that lasted between 1992 and 2006. They also routinely won the conference championship. During this period, the Irish were headed by Debbie Brown, who won 519 matches during her tenure, nearly 400 more than Art Lambert, the next coach on the program’s wins list. To say “Chants”, as she is affectionately called in the video, has seen a lot of success is an understatement, and her players hope she will continue to devote her time to the program for many seasons more.
