Notre Dame at Virginia Tech: Betting odds, spread and lines

  • Money line: Notre Dame +280 (bet $100 to win $280) | Virginia Tech -350 (bet $350 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Notre Dame +7.5 (-110) | Virginia Tech -7.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 138.5 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Notre Dame at Virginia Tech: Three things to know

  1. It’s been a tough go of it for Mike Bray’s Irish this season, as they have yet to record consecutive wins at any point. They had a near-miss at North Carolina Jan. 2 in their most recent game, falling 66-65 as 10-point underdogs. It was their first cover since Dec. 12, snapping an 0-4 ATS skid.
  2. Notre Dame is 3-1 ATS in its past four games as an underdog of 6 or more points, including an outright win Dec. 12 at Kentucky. The Irish are a good free-throw shooting team, ranking 11th in the nation at 79.3 percent, but they’re also just 202nd in the country with 71.4 points per outing.
  3. Virginia Tech might be in danger of dropping out of the Top 25 after a 73-71 midweek loss at Louisville. The Hokies did hang on for the cover, though, and are 4-1 ATS across the past five. All five of the outings also cashed the Over, and the Hokies have gone Over the total in eight of 10 so far.

Notre Dame at Virginia Tech: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Virginia Tech 76, Notre Dame 67

Money line (ML)

Virginia Tech (-350) is playing the better basketball of these two schools at the moment, but risking three and a half times your potential return is not a recommended long-term strategy. Even if you hit at an impressive 70 percent clip, you’ll be just even. AVOID, and look to the spread instead.

Against the spread (ATS)

VIRGINIA TECH -7.5 (-110) is the play on its home floor, as it has covered four of the past five overall, including three of four at home. The Hokies also have taken advantage of the lesser teams, going 13-3 ATS in the previous 16 against clubs with a winning percentage of .400 or lower.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 138.5 (-115) is the play until further notice on Va. Tech games. The Hokies have hit the Over in six in a row. They’re so-so on offense, going for 75.1 PPG, while allowing 65.1 PPG. However, they’re not very good at defending against the 3, and that’s an area the Irish can be quite effective. In fact, Notre Dame ranks 23rd in the country, hitting 38.9% of its 3-point attempts.

Virginia Tech at Louisville odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Wednesday’s Virginia Tech Hokies at Louisville Cardinals sports betting odds and lines, with college basketball betting picks, tips and predictions.

The No. 20 Virginia Tech Hokies (8-1, 2-0 ACC) meet up with the No. 25 Louisville Cardinals (7-1, 2-0) in an ACC showdown at the KFC Yum! Center. The tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Virginia Tech-Louisville college basketball betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Virginia Tech is No. 20 and Louisville No. 25 in the Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Virginia Tech at Louisville: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 1:25 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Virginia Tech +185 (bet $100 to win $185) | Louisville -225 (bet $225 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Virginia Tech +5.5 (-115) | Louisville -5.5 (-105)
  • Over/Under: 131.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Virginia Tech at Louisville: Three things to know

  1. Virginia Tech gritted out an 80-78 win at home vs. Miami as 8-point favorites Dec. 29. The Hokies were outshot from everywhere on the floor, had fewer rebounds and assists but won the turnover battle 19-11 thanks to tallying a season-high in steals (12). Virginia Tech had its most recent scheduled game vs. Virginia canceled due to a positive COVID test on the Cavaliers’ staff.
  2. The Cardinals went into Boston College and crushed the Golden Eagles 76-64 as 6.5-point favorites Saturday. Louisville’s defense smothered Boston College, holding them to 33.3% field-goal shooting (24.2% from three) and six assists while out-rebounding the Golden Eagles 43-30.
  3. Louisville has beaten Virginia Tech in four straight meetings (4-0 ATS) and is 7-0 vs. the Hokies since joining the ACC in 2014. However, the Cardinals have a lot of new faces in the fold as four of the highest scorers from the last Virginia Tech-Louisville game are no longer on the team.

Virginia Tech at Louisville: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Virginia Tech 65, Louisville 59

Money line (ML)

lean VIRGINIA TECH (+185) for a quarter-unit because I plan on taking them plus the points, and it’s my general basketball gambling strategy to sprinkle on an underdog’s money line when betting them to cover.

Against the spread (ATS)

GIMME VIRGINIA TECH +5.5 (-115) for 1.5 units. This is mostly a fade the market play since Louisville is a more popular basketball program. According to Pregame.com, more than 70% of the money is on Louisville yet the Cardinals’ spread is getting cheaper. That tells me that bookmakers are comfortable taking pro-Louisville money.

Also, the head-to-head trends are more common knowledge than people realize, and trust me, the bookmakers know the recent history between these two sides. However, Virginia Tech retained 60% of its scoring from last year’s team and Louisville just 25% (according to Sports-Reference.com).

The Hokies are ready to get off the schneid against a Louisville team that’s dominated them since entering the ACC

Over/Under (O/U)

This bad boy is going UNDER 131.5 (-110). Virginia Tech is 305th out of 344 charted schools in pace of play, and Louisville is 325th. Each are above average in both offensive and defensive efficiency, but the execution on offense will have pinpoint for this to go Over if these teams are going to play as slow as they usually do.

Longwood at Virginia Tech odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Monday’s Longwood Lancers at Virginia Tech Hokies sports betting odds and lines, with college basketball betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Longwood Lancers (1-6, 0-2 Big South) visit the Virginia Tech Hokies (6-1, 1-0 ACC) Monday for an 8 p.m. tip at Cassell Coliseum in Blacksburg, Va. Below, we analyze the Longwood-Virginia Tech college basketball betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Longwood at Virginia Tech: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 6:05 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: There was no money line listed at the time of publishing, likely because the spread is so large.
  • Against the spread/ATS: Longwood +24 (-110) | Virginia Tech -24 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 134.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Longwood at Virginia Tech: Three things to know

  1. The Lancers of Longwood are coming off a 91-89 loss against The Citadel last time out on Saturday, unable to win or cover in its first game as a favorite this season. Their only win came Dec. 8 over North Carolina A&T, 77-60.
  2. The Hokies lost 75-55 to Penn State on Dec. 8 in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge, but that’s their only setback of the season. They’re on a two-game win streak with covers against both Clemson and Coppin State. This Va. Tech team also has a quality win over Villanova, 81-73 in overtime back on Nov. 28 as the Over connected.
  3. These teams have a common opponent, Radford University. The Highlanders beat Longwood in a doubleheader Dec. 14-15, winning by one and by nine, while Virginia Tech dumped Radford 77-62 in the opener on Nov. 25.

Longwood at Virginia Tech: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Virginia Tech 86, Longwood 58

Money line (ML)

No money line listed. It wouldn’t be worth pursuing, anyway.

Against the spread (ATS)

VIRGINIA TECH -24 (-110) has posted a 4-2 ATS mark across the past six outings, including a cover in its only game as a favorite of 21 or more points. That came last time out in a 97-57 win over Coppin State as 27-point favorites. Expect a similar blowout against the Lancers.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 134.5 (-110) is the best play on the board, as the Hokies should have their way against the overmatched Lancers. Virginia Tech has rolled up five Over results in its first seven games, including each of the past two.

The Hokies rank 72nd in the nation with 37.2 percent shooting from behind the 3-point line, and they’re among the worst in the country defending the three, allowing 34.7 percent on triple tries.

Clemson at Virginia Tech odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Clemson Tigers at Virginia Tech Hokies sports betting odds and lines, with college football betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Clemson Tigers (8-1, 7-1 ACC) visit the Virginia Tech Hokies (4-5, 4-4) Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff. Below, we analyze the Clemson-Virginia Tech college football betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

The Tigers are No. 3 in the Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Clemson at Virginia Tech: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 2:43 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Clemson -1200 (bet $1,200 to win $100) | Virginia Tech +750 (bet $100 to win $750)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Clemson -22 (-110) | Virginia Tech +22 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 66.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Clemson at Virginia Tech: Three things to know

  1. Clemson is coming off a 52-17 victory over Pittsburgh last week, the Tigers’ first cover in the past four outings. The Tigers are 2-1 SU on the road this season, but they covered just once in those outings. The Tigers are also on a 5-0 Over run.
  2. The Tigers offense has been a buzzsaw, posting 512.2 total yards per game to rank ninth in the country, 362.8 passing YPG to rank third and 46.1 points per game, good for fifth in the country. Defensively, they have yielded just 298.6 YPG to check in eighth, and they’re allowing just 19.2 PPG, good for 19th.
  3. Virginia Tech has dropped each of its past two home games, falling to Liberty and Miami-Florida, and it’s 0-3 SU/ATS across the past three overall. The Hokies were dusted at Pittsburgh by a 47-14 count. They are 3-1 Over in their past four.

Clemson at Virginia Tech: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Clemson 45, Virginia Tech 17

Money line (ML)

Clemson (-1200) is a heavy favorite, and for good reason. The Tigers are sound on both sides of the football. However, you cannot risk 12 times your potential return. It’s just not a very wise long-term strategy. PASS.

Against the spread (ATS)

CLEMSON -22 (-110) has covered four of the past five in this series. The Tigers are playing good football heading into this one, while the Hokies are on a major slide. The Tigers are also 11-3 ATS in the past 14 as a road favorite, while cashing in 20 of the past 28 ACC games. The Hokies are just 2-5 ATS in the past seven league games, and 2-5 ATS in the past seven against teams with a winning overall mark.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 66.5 (-110) is the play here, as Clemson can be trusted to put up a healthy amount of points, but the same cannot be said about Virginia Tech against Clemson’s stingy defense. The Hokies were blown out 47-14 in Pittsburgh last week, and you can expect a similar lopsided result here.

Virginia Tech at Louisville odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Virginia Tech Hokies at Louisville Cardinals sports betting odds and lines, with college football betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Virginia Tech Hokies (3-2 overall, 3-2 ACC) visit the Louisville Cardinals (2-4, 1-4) Saturday at 4 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Virginia Tech-Louisville college football betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Virginia Tech at Louisville: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 6:39 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Virginia Tech -162 (bet $162 to win $100) | Louisville +135 (bet $100 to win $135)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Virginia Tech -3.5 (-110) | Louisville +3.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 67.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Virginia Tech at Louisville: Three things to know

  1. Virginia Tech was its own worst enemy in last week’s 23-16 loss to Wake Forest. QB Hendon Hooker threw three interceptions and the Hokies committed 10 penalties for 112 penalty yards. The loss dropped Virginia Tech out of the Top 25 in the Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

  2. Louisville ended a four-game skid by pummeling Florida State 48-16. The Cardinals outgained the Seminoles 569-406 in total yards and rushed for 291 yards and four touchdowns.

  3. The Cardinals have been in the ACC since 2014 and this is its first game vs. Virginia Tech as a conference foe. The last time these teams met was in the 2006 Gator Bowl, which Virginia Tech won 35-24.

Virginia Tech at Louisville: Odds, prediction, betting lines and picks

Prediction

Virginia Tech 33, Louisville 24

Money line (ML)

This is a spot where last week’s terrible performances from both sides make VIRGINIA TECH (-162) cheaper to bet against Louisville (+135). The Hokies outgained Wake Forest by 117 yards and had 11 more first downs but hurt themselves with turnovers and penalties. Those things will wash out as the season progresses.

Louisville boat raced a bad Florida State team, which can’t attack the Cardinals like the Hokies can. Virginia Tech’s ground game should trample Louisville because the Hokies average a third-highest 6.5 yards per carry and Cardinals defense ranks 79th in yards per carry (4.9).

The Cardinals not being able to defend what Virginia Tech excels at makes them a good bet. The money line is a little expensive, so I’d entertain putting this in a parlay but VIRGINIA TECH (-162) is a winner.

Against the spread (ATS)

Virginia Tech’s defense is starting to play better after a quirky start to the season. The Hokies suffered injuries and COVID complications over their first few games but are 33rd in defensive SP+ ratings (per ESPN).

Their defensive line has been bad this season but the Cardinals have been tackled for a loss 53 times this season. Also, Louisville is -8 in turnover differential. Virginia Tech’s defense will make enough plays to help it cover this spread. BET HOKIES -3.5 (-110).

Over/Under (O/U)

I don’t like the total here (67.5) but I am leaning to the Under.

Virginia Tech is 13th in the ACC in plays run per game and Louisville is 14th. The Hokies will control the ball and eat the clock. However, the combined Over/Under record of Virginia Tech-Louisville is 7-4 and Louisville’s offense plays a lot better at home.

A lean is not a bet. Proceed at your own caution.

Virginia Tech at Wake Forest odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Virginia Tech Hokies and Wake Forest Demon Deacons sports betting odds and lines, with college football betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Virginia Tech Hokies (3-1, 3-1 ACC) and Wake Forest Demon Deacons (2-2, 1-2) meet at Truist Field in Winston-Salem, N.C., for a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff Saturday. Below, we analyze the Virginia Tech-Wake Forest college football betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Virginia Tech is 20th in the Amway Coaches Poll powered by USA TODAY Sports.

Virginia Tech at Wake Forest: Betting odds and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Friday at 4:45 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: Virginia Tech -358 (bet $358 to win $100) | Wake Forest +270 (bet $100 to win $270)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Virginia Tech -10.5 (-110) | Wake Forest +10.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 68.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Virginia Tech at Wake Forest: Three things to know

  1. Virginia Tech hits the road for the third time this season. The Hokies have had mixed results, both in the Tar Heel state, winning 38-31 at Duke for a non-cover as 11.5-point favorites, and losing 56-45 at North Carolina as 3.5-point underdogs. The Over is 2-0 in their previous two road outings.
  2. Wake Forest is coming off a resounding 40-23 win over Virginia, comfortably covering as a 2.5-point home favorite, and it’s 2-1 straight up and 3-0 ATS in three games at Truist Field this season. The Demon Deacons only loss at home was to Clemson, 37-13, in the opener, cashing as 34-point dogs. The Over has hit in three in a row for the Deacs, too.
  3. Wake Forest has had an opportunistic defense, creating six takeaways to rank ninth in the nation, while turning it over just once on offense for a solid plus-5 turnover margin. Virginia Tech is also in the positive with a plus-3 ratio.

Virginia Tech at Wake Forest: Odds, prediction, betting lines and picks

Prediction

Virginia Tech 40, Wake Forest 34

Money line (ML)

Virginia Tech (-358) should be able to ease past Wake Forest (+270), but it will be a dogfight to the end. Laying nearly three times your potential return is risky. AVOID.

Against the spread (ATS)

WAKE FOREST +10.5 (-110) is a sound play at home, as it’s a perfect 3-0 ATS. Virginia Tech -10.5 (-110) has yet to cover on the road, and the Demon Deacons really haven’t even been close to cashing away from Blacksburg. This one has one-score game written all over it, as the Deacs have been a surprising out this season despite their top receiver (and player) opting out.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 68.5 (-110) is a big number, but that’s because each of these teams have rolled up huge offensive totals. The Gobblers have hit the Over three times in four outings, averaging 41.5 points per game on the road while yielding 48.5 PPG. The Deacs have scored 40 or more points in three in a row, and they have hit the Over in three in a row. Look for a track meet.
