5 things to watch for in UNC football vs Virginia matchup

As North Carolina prepare to hit the road against Virginia this Saturday, we look at a few key things you should know before you watch.

The 7-1 North Carolina Tar Heels are in the driver’s seat of the ACC Coastal and have the chance to extend its lead when they take on Virginia this weekend on the road.

Finally, UNC is gaining the respect of the Associated Press Poll’s top 25, moving to No. 17 this week. As the season is winding down, North Carolina will need to add some statement wins to their resume for a significant boost in the rankings, and the Cavaliers are a perfect team for it.

This game shouldn’t be close, with the two teams on different paths this season. Virginia has struggled mightily in the division, mustering up only one win and four losses in the conference. On the other hand, North Carolina has taken care of business, going 4-0 in the conference. UNC is by far the superior team. However, if a trap game were to occur for North Carolina, it would be this one.

The two teams share heated history, dating back to 1892, and with this being coined as the “South’s Oldest Rivalry,” expect the Cavaliers to fight to end despite their lackluster season so far.

UNC football vs. Virginia: Game preview, info, prediction and more

We take a look at what you need to know for the UNC football program’s matchup against Virginia this Saturday.

The 7-1 North Carolina Tar Heels will be on the road this Saturday to take on the 3-5 Virginia Cavaliers.

Riding a four-game win streak, UNC has found its groove as they look to continue its climb of the Associated Press Poll Top 25. Ranked at No.17 this week, North Carolina has had a bumpy path despite their first place standing in the ACC Coastal division.

The shaky defense and nail-biting wins have yet to help UNC get established as a respectable team this season. Despite the lack of recognition the team has received, quarterback Drake Maye and North Carolina’s offense have gained respect as one of the best in the nation and will have a chance to prove it again this weekend against a struggling defense.

Virginia’s offense has struggled mightily with no true identity. A win won’t be enough to throw on the resume. As we get closer to bowl season, UNC will need to deliver another statement game.

ACC power rankings heading into Week 10

After an exciting Week 8, here’s our ACC power rankings heading into Week 10.

Another week of the 2022 college football season is behind us as each team around the ACC prepares for their upcoming Week 10 matchups.

Dabo Swinney and No.5 Clemson are coming off a much-needed bye week after the team remained undefeated with an 8-0 (6-0 ACC) record after a 27-21 comeback win over Syracuse. After being replaced by freshman Cade Klubnik in the third quarter, starting quarterback DJ Uiagalelei will look to bounce back in Week 10.

There were some great games around the ACC in Week 9, with some upsets dealt. No.10 Wake Forest got dismantled by Louisville, while Syracuse lost by double digits to Notre Dame.

In college football, anything can happen on any given Saturday, as we’ve seen this season. So, how did Week 9 shake things up in the ACC? Who rose in our and fell in our rankings?

Here’s a look at our ACC power rankings heading into 10:

UNC football vs. Virginia opening betting odds

The betting odds for Saturday’s showdown between UNC and Virginia have been released with the Tar Heels as 9.5-point favorites.

The 7-1 North Carolina Tar Heels are looking to extend their four-game win streak this weekend, and the odds are in their favor to do so in their Atlantic Coast Conference matchup with 3-5 Virginia.

UNC opens up as 9.5-point favorites in this ACC showdown as they look to remain in the driver’s seat in the coastal division. Despite being on the road, North Carolina has a massive spread in their favor, and that is due to their 4-0 away record.

Along with the sizable spread gap, the odds also expect a shootout with an over/under set at 59.5 points. The trend of high-scoring odds is not new territory for North Carolina. UNC has an offense that averages 41.8 points per game with a defense that gives up 31.4 points, showing a clear indicator of why a high-scoring game is expected.

If North Carolina can beat Virginia this weekend and have a few more domino chips fall in their favor, they will lock up the first seed in the ACC Coastal division despite having three games left.

Virginia-Miami went to 4 overtimes and wasn’t remotely close to the over/under

It took 4OT to reach 26 points…

If you bet on the total for Saturday’s Virginia-Miami game, you’re either celebrating an unthinkable win or an unbelievable loss. To put it nicely, the Cavaliers and Hurricanes played an incredibly weird game.

The ordinary viewer was likely very bored watching this game, but the viewer who bet on this low-scoring game almost certainly was invested (and confused) throughout.

Through four 15-minute quarters and four overtime periods of ACC football, there were a total of zero touchdowns scored, zero turnovers forced and 14 punts between the two teams that left the scoreboard reading Miami — 14, Virginia — 12 at the end of the game.

The 26 combined points between Miami and Virginia were 22.5 short of the 48.5-point over/under.

Somehow, it ended up being a great day for under bettors.

North Carolina Tar Heels vs. Virginia schedule update

The North Carolina football program announces kick off time for the Virginia game on November 5th.

There has been a schedule update as the 6-1 North Carolina Tar Heels will take on the 3-4 Virginia Cavaliers on November 5th with a noon eastern kick-off time.

The schedule update was announced Monday morning, as UNC has eyes on getting an Atlantic Coast Conference championship bid by winning the ACC Coastal division. They are in a good spot with a three-game lead over second-place Georgia Tech after beating rival Duke Blue Devils 38-35.

On the other hand, the Cavaliers haven’t quite figured it out, going 1-3 in the conference. However, they muster up an impressive 48-40 win over Georgia Tech.

Right now, UNC is ranked 21 in the associated press top 25 poll, but if they can continue their win streak with a win over Pitt and Cavaliers in back-to-back weeks, then the top 15 should be guaranteed.

Last season North Carolina dominated Virginia, winning 59-39, and will look to repeat the same outcome.

ACC power rankings heading into Week 9

After an exciting Week 8, here’s our ACC power rankings heading into Week 9.

Another week of the 2022 college football season is behind us as each team around the ACC prepares for their upcoming Week 9 matchups or rests up with a bye week.

Dabo Swinney and No.5 Clemson are coming off a 27-21 home win over Syracuse, where the Tigers had to overcome a 17-point deficit in the fourth quarter. It wasn’t near the Tigers’ best football as DJ Uiagalelei took a seat for true freshman Cade Klubnik to give the team the spark they needed in the second half to pull it out.

There were some great games around the ACC in Week 8, while a handful of teams had their bye weeks. Duke beat down Miami on the road, while Louisville continued their bounce-back handling Pittsburgh.

In college football, anything can happen on any given Saturday, as we’ve seen this season. So, how did Week 8 shake things up in the ACC? Who rose in our and fell in our rankings?

Here’s a look at our ACC power rankings heading into 9:

Georgia Tech QB Zach Gibson inexplicably ran out of bounds instead of throwing a Hail Mary on final play

Oh no. Ohhhh no.

Virginia and Georgia Tech faced off Thursday in a game that won’t be remembered fondly, but was still…absolutely a football game.

The Cavaliers snapped a three-game losing streak with a win in Atlanta — a place they haven’t tasted victory since 2008 — in a 16-9 affair that featured very little offense and a lot of mistakes. GT were 2.5 point favorites in the game.

Despite holding a 410-201 advantage in total yardage, the Yellow Jackets still had a chance to win the game as they drove the field, down seven, with 36 seconds remaining. Virginia’s defense — which held the opponent to just 55 yards rushing and finished with eight sacks, one interception and one forced fumble — had made life miserable for GT’s backup QB Zach Gibson since he entered the game in the second quarter after Jeff Sims sustained an injury.

With just seven seconds left, it looked like Gibson would have one final shot downfield to try and tie the game. Instead, he … ran out of bounds with zeroes on the clock.

After the game, Gibson told Ken Sugiura of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution “… I looked downfield and just didn’t really see a throw at all. I didn’t feel like there was anyone to get it to in that moment. I can’t throw the ball 85 yards, 70 yards, so I mean at that point I just felt like, run out of bounds and take the loss.”

Gibson continued later, saying, “… it’s not a good look. And I know that.”

It did, however, feel like the only possible ending for a game that had four turnovers, two missed field goals, two missed extra points and three second half points.

FTW VIBE CHECK: Hendon Hooker’s stellar start vs. Auburn’s struggles

Let’s take a look at the vibes in college football heading into the weekend’s games.

Welcome back to VIBE CHECK, where we monitor and assess the weekly pulse of college football. Each week, we grade a handful of teams based on their on-field performance, off-field shenanigans (good and bad!), message board chatter, and more. This is very (read: not at all) scientific and should be taken very (read: not at all) seriously.

Happy Friday, everyone. We have an incredible slate waiting for us this weekend with six ranked-ranked matchups, including No. 3 Alabama at No. 6 Tennessee. Remarkably we are at the half-way point of the season, and no one team looks totally untouchable. Does this mean we will see a CFP of someone other than just Alabama/Georgia/Ohio State/someone else? Probably not. But let’s pretend it might.

Let’s get to the vibes.

ACC power rankings heading into Week 7

After an exciting Week 6, here’s our ACC power rankings heading into Week 7.

Another week of the 2022 college football season is behind us as each team around the ACC prepares for their upcoming Week 7 matchups.

Dabo Swinney and the Tigers are coming off a dominant 31-3 win on the road over Boston College, with DJ Uiagalelei continuing his hot start to the season. The win helped keep No.4 Clemson undefeated as they head into a tough Week 7 road matchup against Florida State.

There were some great games around the ACC in Week 6, with FSU falling in a close one to NC State while Georgia Tech continued its hot streak taking down another hot team in Duke. It was yet another wild week in the ACC.
In college football, anything can happen on any given Saturday, as we’ve seen this season. So, how did Week 6 shake things up in the ACC? Who rose in our and fell in our rankings?
