Could longtime assistant Vince Marrow be leaving Kentucky?

Kentucky football assistant coach Vince Marrow has reportedly received an offer to join North Carolina.

Kentucky football had a disappointing 2024 season, followed by the defection of a number of players in the transfer portal. Now, they could be set to lose longtime assistant coach Vince Marrow.

The college football world was shocked recently when Bill Belichick accepted the head coaching job at North Carolina. His hiring gives the Tarheels instant credibility in recruiting, and will attract some good assistant coaches. Marrow might be one of them, per a report from FootballScoop.

Belichick and Marrow have known each other for a while, and the former Super Bowl winning head coach has apparently reached out to the Wildcats assistant for a position on his staff. Marrow is a good coach, and a terrific recruiter, so it would be a huge blow to Kentucky if he leaves.

Several other teams have courted Marrow over the years, but so far, he has stayed put. Fans will be hoping he once again chooses Lexington over another offer.

A Kentucky football coach may have helped Jasper Johnson choose the Wildcats

Kentucky basketball landed recruit Jasper Johnson, and may have gotten some help from a football assistant.

Kentucky basketball got a big boost this past week when top ten recruit Jasper Johnson committed to the Wildcats. He joined top 25 recruit Malachi Moreno in the 2025 class, giving Kentucky an early lead as a top overall class.

Coach Mark Pope joined the race late, after the coaching change in Lexington, and it looked like Johnson was going to wind up elsewhere. However, Pope was relentless in his pursuit, and wound up getting his guy. He might have had some unexpected help though.

On WLAP’s Sunday Morning Sports Talk, Johnson said that he got some sound advice from Kentucky football assistant Vince Marrow, a longtime family friend.

Vince — you know, he’s family to me. He made a couple of jokes and stuff here and there early on about coming to Kentucky, but he wasn’t pressuring me or anything. He always told me to go where I feel like I can develop the most and get to the next level. He never really pressured me or anything, but Vince is family, so he just told me to keep basketball the main focus and the people around me will take care of the rest of it. He wanted me to just go somewhere where my heart was and Kentucky ended up being that place.

Johnson certainly credited Pope for getting him to commit to the Cats, but Morrow’s message to go where his heart led him may have helped.

Kentucky Associate Head Coach reportedly turns down Michigan State Football offer

Vince Marrow of Kentucky has reportedly rejected an offer to become the lead recruiter at Michigan State.

The Mel Tucker era is underway at Michigan State and he is currently looking to fill his coaching staff with prime talent from around the country. According to a report from Matt Jones of Kentucky Sports Radio, Tucker reached out to Kentucky’s Vince Marrow to become the lead recruiter for Tucker’s administration. Today, Jones provided an update, declaring that Marrow turned down Tucker’s offer.

This comes after reports indicated that Tucker and MSU had made a large counteroffer to the associate head coach and tight ends coach from Kentucky, which he has reportedly rejected.

Here is Matt Jones initial reaction and announcement of Marrow’s decision:

It was reported earlier in the week that Tucker will not be retaining any of Dantonio’s staff, but he will need to start moving quickly to fill his staff openings to get everything in order for the season.

We will keep updating this story as more details emerge.

Michigan State’s Mel Tucker reportedly reaches out to Kentucky lead recruiter

Mel Tucker is making a push for Kentucky assistant and ace recruiter Vince Marrow

Michigan State’s new head coach is wasting no time assembling a staff and not just because it’s the middle of February.

According to Matt Jones of Kentucky Sports Radio, Tucker has already reached out to Kentucky’s Associate Head Coach and Tight Ends coach Vince Marrow to join him at MSU.

Marrow is regarded as one of the best recruiters in the country and even had Jim Harbaugh and UofM trying to lure him away from Kentucky. They key here is that Tucker and Marrow are very close friends that both have strong ties to Ohio. Plus, Michigan State has reportedly given Tucker an assistant salary pool of more than $6 million, which would give Tucker the flexibility to offer Marrow a salary that Kentucky either couldn’t or wouldn’t match. Jones said on his morning radio show that MSU’s offer would include a substantial pay raise. It’s an interesting situation and–while seemly under the radar–could end up being very impactful.
